of them had been assaulted by drunks ,whilst on duty .Now this as we all know costs the country millions ,I know says the govt ,lets let the underground run all night so people can stay out longer and wait for it drink more , 8-) im with the unions on this ,if you feel the need to stay out until 3 in the morning and drink ,get a cab home ,
I have often said that if someone attacks any of the medical staff, they
Should lose their access to the NHS and have to get their own private
Health care package.

Like my mate Stagg ,I have been called on many an occasion to a disturbance at casualty , to deal with (,normaly the whole family turns up ) some drunken cretin who has drunk himself into oblivion ,and surprise surprise , is now very ill or bleeding a lot , and all the family are giving it the big one to the poor nurse on duty , that they pay her wages ,and deserve ,better service ,than they ,well actually deserve .If you abuse it ,you should lose it ,any one caught causing aggro to NHS staff ,as my learned friend TP quite rightly says ,should be told ,that's it ,no more ,go find a private alternative ,
I was in the queue the other week on the underground at the ticket office. Only one was open as quite late hence I was waiting a good half hour - it was quite an eye opener in that 30 mins watching one of the staff (the guy watching the barriers) getting tons of abuse and people trying things on (no tickets etc and being the victim!!)

Exactly my beef regarding the strike ,all the dick head management at TFL/LU.ect have all gone home at 5-30 pm ,but expect ,every other poor sod ,to work through the night .I once had to wait ages ,and I mean ages for a bus to get me home ,and duly rang the local garage to vent my anger ,only to be told that all the office staff ,(ie the ones who arrange the rotas ) have gone home at 5pm .To wich I replied ,the reason why they have gone at 5pm ,is because they know ,the bus service is sh*t after 5-30, X-( ,

I'm also not a fan of these 'service charges' either...I'd like to be able to decide IF I've had good service or not and tip accordingly...
IM not a big fan of tipping myself (in this country ) because most food staff here dont go that extra mile , i do however tip in the USA , because the staff over there ,really treat you as a friend ,,and give great service .i know im generalising , and obviously this dosent apply to all UK FOOD places ,but you cant beat the USA for service ,but as you say ,the store shouldnt keep the staffs tips.

Funnily enough im in Spain at the moment. Noticed most locals dont bother tipping but tourists do!!
Had a funny moment in Chile last year, left a restaurant with a generous tip only for the waiter to come pegging it down the street after us asking for money because HE screwed up and forgot to add something to my bill. I asked him for the money I paid (inc tip), he gave it back to me expecting me to get my card out etc but I handed him the notes straight back and said that will cover it ala no tip!! He was not a happy chappy but pretty unprofessional and I told him so!
Went on a Greyhound bus tour of the north east USA back in 1992. Was given a $10 in change before we left the bus in Atlantic City to use in the casinos. Ended up with $1000 after a 14 hour shift (with free drinks).
Free money, I tipped the guy at the hotel in New York - where the bus took us next - who showed us to our room $100 - he was our best mate for the week...
I always tip here in The Philippines as the average salary is about 30 pesos per hour (20pence) and the servers work very hard making sure everything is good for you. Also on return visits you get the best table etc. etc.
In a local restaurant 2 of us can eat a delicious local 3-course meal with a couple of San Migs for about 7 UK pounds I will always leave the equivalent of a tenner - everyone is happy
Like always shaken (above) I have always found American service exceptional and the Filipino's have taken this on board as the country is very heavily American influenced.
