    +1, I hate any killing of these endangered animals.

    Given his writing, I imagine Ian Fleming would have hated this too. -{

    Someday, people will go to a zoo and there won't be any of these beautiful creatures to see. Imagine a world without tigers, rhinos, elephants etc. Unimaginable.

    I know. It's a crying out shame but change will come from Cecil's death. Let him not have died in vain. -{

    Personally I think this problem has a horribly simple solution.
    Any poacher sighted hunting endangered species should be shot on sight, for the sake of those endangered species. These bastards won't stop till there is nothing left. There should be fatal consequences, if for no other reason than as a lethal deterant.

    I do NOT favour the death penalty, but when I think of Elephants, Tigers, Gorillas, Rhinos, and all these other amazing creatures, this is a singular exception.

    On a more positive note... http://apeactionafrica.org/index -{

    Yeah I'm not particularly in favour of the death penalty. But we need to show poachers that it's not acceptable.

    I have a couple of friends who are in to the whole " Hunting, shooting and
    Fishing" lifestyle. They shoot wild rabbits and various birds etc, but even they
    Said you'd have to be a colossal knob to shoot those beautiful endangered
    Animals.
    I can't understand the hunting mentality, I've nothing against it. It's all personal
    Choice. I'd much rather use the same skills, to get a great photo of the animal. ;)

    On the rare occasion that I head into town to shop. Today I was took back by the amount of people peddling their individual charities. In Newcastle the main shopping street is Northumberland street, it's probably about 100 metres in length. Must of been about 7/8 of them at half 9 this morning pestering people. I'm all for helping charities, but when there's that many at one point and they try and butter you up. I just respond with "no thank you." They shouldn't pester people like that. If people want to donate, they will. I don't mind the salvation army or the remembrance day collection. They stand there and don't say a word. Sitting down for something to eat in the evenings or after work, and there's usually an animal cruelty advert or a starving child on the TV. It's like the government love putting you off your tea and making you feel guilty. Ah rant over, where's the beer :)) .

    There's been a lot in the news about charities recently- http://www.eversheds.com/global/en/what/articles/index.page?ArticleID=en/Local_government/Changes_to_Charity_Law_The_Charities_Protection_and_Social_Investment_Bill_2015 and http://voluntarynews.org.uk/news/tag/charity-law/ among others.

    I think it's all become too influenced by business models (targets, etc). People (myself included) will donate to their preferred charities - The Bride is particularly susceptible :# - but will be put off by overly-aggressive practices. Time for them to step back a bit, I'd say.
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
    Yes, some of those charity collectors can be quite forceful, because they are on a commission
    for sales, basically.

    I donate monthly to three designated charities. Its not much, but its what I can spare.
    As a result, I tell all of these Sales reps (truthfully) sorry, I am tapped out.

    It also means I can be sure my money is going where it is supposed to be going.

    Not long after moving here to Mactan I was fortunate enough to be introduced to a lovely Scandinavian lady who for the past twenty odd years had set up a centre where those who had problems of any sort could come for help. It is totally funded by herself and others who help run the place. I was privileged to be asked to help and I contribute a monthly donation along with as many hours of voluntary work that I can spend there. We have a lawyer, a doctor, a police chief and several ex-pats from around the globe helping out. We also employ several full time staff to look after the centre because we also provide temporary shelter for those who are homeless.

    My entire working life was as a self-employed used book seller so at first I didn't think I could offer much but I am good at putting people at ease and I have learnt how to handle some difficult situations. I haven't been on here for a couple of days as I have handled a particular traumatic case which I will post her on the Rant Box later :(

    When I was back in England recently I did notice the surplus of charity workers begging for donations. Having seen the salaries of some of these directors there is no way I would contribute to their lifestyle.

    {[] to Stag - we both think alike.

    Agreed, the salaries of some of these directors ... is simply outrageous ! and
    on top of that, they're guaranteed a knighthood or other big honour, after a few
    years.

    £40,000 to kill this remarkable animal. Believed to be between 40 and 50 year old.

    It is, categorically, what makes us the most despicable species on the planet.
    Recently been watching BBC Wildlife's excellent Life Story and Frozen Planet.
    You don't see Lions, Polar Bears or Elephants shooting people, polluting the sea or perverting the course of justice for political gain. X-(

    On a brighter note, I love how the Penguins wonder up to Sir David A as he's chatting to camera, almost as if they are going to ask about his holiday plans or geeking out that they are on the telly!

    What is it with people (mainly kids) letting fireworks off at this time of year? Not even Bonfire night and they are letting them off.
    Have you ever heard of the Emancipation Proclamation?"

    They've got nothing better to spend money on. They shouldn't sell them to the general public.

    as he's terrified.

    They usually get them from a white van man on the black market. I don't think shops are selling them yet.

    I'm sure there was a period, when they didn't sell them to the public. It'll be little Jimmy and his mates wasting their "hard earned" pocket money. I don't see the fascination with them to be honest.

    It's crazy that kids have to live with " Health and Safety" for most of the year,
    to keep them safe. Then for a few nights it's " Here kids thake these explosives

    Yes I did chase them which was totally instinctive and probably quite stupid. I caught them up in a park and found myself surrounded by a group of teenagers. I approached the tallest and told him that if my window was smashed they would have to find the money to replace it. A few of them came back to my house to look at the damage - a scorch mark on the glass - which is still there to this day. He apologised and explained that they were throwing fireworks at buses and never meant to hit my window (as if this made it ok). Times have changed since I was a kid - we used to just knock on doors and run away.
