Yes, from watching a few Police documentary shows, people seem
To get very light sentences for ,what I think of as quite serious offences,
and it's not as if they are first time offences as many of the people
Arrested have a long list of crimes ! :#

I have always said that you must deal from strength. If you intentionally do violence, do it to women. Judges love to blame the victim if female. If you accidentally hurt a perp whilst defending yourself, you can get in quite a bit of trouble though...

No justice in the Justice system...

I don't believe in the Death penalty but, in Britain it was done away with
( a vote by MPs ) with the understanding that Life in prison would replace
    It.
Since then "life" has been dropped to 25 years, and now to 15 years ?
So I guess according to the justice system Murder has become a less
    Serious crime.
How do they expect the average "yob" to respect life when from their own
Example of reducing the sentence, they themselves are sending out the
Message life is cheap and not a " really" serious crime !
My wife's uncle was a cop and told her one of the most heartbreaking things
He had to get used to, was catching people going to court and by the time he
Got home the criminal was already back on the street drinking, laughing and
Carrying on with his activities. In his words it felt like a waste of time.

on a more serious note, my wife witnessed a colleage stabbing another colleague at work (!!!) to death.

She was released after 1 year and had the face to apply at the company again ....

Not a good day for the Democrats. Although with the Tea Party in charge

My current rant concerns the immigration issues at Calais - not sure if this has been covered before,so sorry if it has.

It seems to me that the French must have a valid point here - if our benefits system wasn't so generous and appealing to these immigrants (most from Africa and Afghanistan as I understand it) then they wouldn't be half as keen to get here, causing all manner of problems at Calais in the process! If I understand if correctly, immigrants can start claiming benefits immediately they land in UK soil? Crazy!

This abject and irresponsible use of Uk tax payer money can also be seen in the huge foreign aid we send to countries like India - who have a space programme!!!

I can't understand why the Republicans just had their best election in about eighty years! I understand Obama isn't nearly as good as Clinton was at playing the political game, but compared to George W. Bush this president still looks like a fantastic supreme commander. Is it inflicting the "horrors" of universal health insurance he's being punished for?
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
I can't see why any EU immigrants get in benefits, what they'd
Get in their home country ? That should keep the EU happy.

As for Americans being against health care! I simply can't
Understand that, at All, I just can't figure that out ...... :#

There seems to be a perception of Obama that he thinks his golf swing is more important than affairs of the state...

Most Presidents these days seem to play an awful lot of golf ?
At least Clinton found a way to pass the time in the oval office. :v

People here in the States are tired of freedom, independence, equality, and all the rest of that utopian nonsense. They want & need the security of a mysogenist & racist police state. Hence the voting results.

The explanation is pretty easy. The US media with "flagship" FOX news put an entire country into a non-existent ebola fear.
A public in fear will vote those who tell them that they protect them - and the republicans demanded to close the borders against Africa.
A country in fear will also allow easier the loss of civil rights "because we are under attack".

Their main claim was that the country need someone to take the lead and the voters followed it.

That together with Obama disappointing many of his former voters (who presumably then did not vote at all) and the other party mobilizing more of their voters and you have a result.

    I understand you, old pal.

Here many analysts see a good part in that result because if the reps continue their blockade policy in the next 2 years, it will mobilize many voters from the democrat camp to return and vote at the presidential election.

I understand Rupublican voters are are more steady voters than Democrats, perhaps because they believe the rediculous propaganda about Obama: the health reform means death squads hunting down their grandmothers, he will take away all their guns, he is a soscialist, he is a muslim etc. Many Democrats on the other hand feel Obama hasn't lived up to the unrealitic expectations they had when he was elected.

One funny aspect of the recent US elections was the republican's claim to strengthen the middle-class.
The US middleclass eroded and suffered a lot in the last decade - mostly because GW Bush's buddy-policy that virtually robbed everyone for the good of some ultra-rich few.

Hoping that the middle-class will get better and stronger under a republican presidentship is one of the most naive daydreams that you can have. Remember that the republicans did everything to prevent tax rises for the super-rich in the last decade.

I belive the minimum wage didn't og up during the eight Bush years, but the inflation did! What is strange is that many of those minimum wage workers voted for him. Just promise them to protect their guns, be against abortion, promise lower taxes (but don't say who gets the tax cuts!) and say "God bless Amdrica! a lot. If you do many poor people will vote against their interests again and again. :s

[*][/*] as for the US ebola fear, someone put a brilliant word into one of my favorite fora:

More US citizens have been married to Kim Kardashian than have been infected by ebola on US soil and we are demanding to close the borders
