Sad news indeed. I can't imagine what it's like to lose a parent, even losing my grandparents was a blow to me. But your father served in WWII with UK and Russian troops. The part about Russian troops pussled and interests me. Where and when did this happen?

Must clarify- I don't believe he actually saw action along side them, more like got to know a few in passing. They taught him some Russian, and he in turn taught me. At a University party once we were talking about what languages we knew and I said "I speak Russian very well" in Russian, and an actual Russian dude started talking to me in the language, and I had to stop him to tell him I didn't really know it. He said that I'd said it so perfectly that he figured I did.
What are you blathering on about Lady Rose, you're in publishing aren't you? Isn't that why you were reading Fifty Shades of Grey (and by the way, why didn't we ever get your film review of that?)
Or were you reading E L James because of a Met crackdown on porn?
I got back 2 days ago from Arizona after tying up loose ends after my Father's passing. He left on his final journey whilst I was en route to bid him farewell (That, by definition, sucks). At least he knew I was coming. He was 92- a great run. He was a WWII vet & served with many UK & Russian troops. Twice wounded & recieved a Purple Heart. He joins my Mom in the circle of life. Just wanted to post this here for what it's worth.
He would have made a great spy, if chance had selected him for it...
RIP, Dad.
Hi Chris, I'm new on this site, however I just want to offer my sincere condolences to you.
Both my parents have passed, my mam in 1988, and dad in 1998.
Both my parents were of an age that both served during WW2, however my father was only a 17 year old lad when he was conscripted into the RAF.
He often told me all he did was peel spuds, sweep up and paint fences. He told me "if it moved you saluted it, if it didn't you painted it"

Interesting, but at the same time I wonder about the fate of the Russians he befriended. I have read that Russians who had contact with westerners at the end of the war, often were sent to Siberia by Stalin a few years later. Obviously no-ones fault other than Stalinism, but still sad.
It's so annoying when you get stuck behind two or three of these
Idiots. X-( I get so angry, I feel like getting a high powered riffle
and finding a clock tower somewhere ! .......... Just joking.
But bloody hell, It is vexing.

I had the Beemer serviced last week ,it was due for its 40,000 miles ,any way ,I said to the reception agent , "you will put a new air filter in this time ,as last year ,it was never replaced ? .That correct sir ,said the agent , a BMW air filter is good for 40,odd thousand miles now days ," 8-) to wich I replied ,"well when I was a young man I used to service my own cars ,(it was easy in them days) and we always changed the air filter every year . So he says , "the new cars don't need a new filter like they used to ,because the air is a lot cleaner now, than it was 20 years ago . Now I read in the paper ,about London going all electric car wise
because of the filthy air ,now my question is whos telling the truth
Why is it such a surprise to some people that at the end of the checkout, you
Do have to PAY ! For the items in your basket ! X-(
Yes, one of my major annoyances too. I sometimes find myself counting the seconds under my breath that it takes someone to look at the total, say "How much is it, dear?", open their handbag, take out their purse, say "How much is it, dear?" Open their purse, look at the total, say "How much is it again, dear? Count out their money, look at the total. Reach back into their purse to get more money. Look at the total, say "How much?" Hand over their money, and say "Is that enough, dear?" and then reach back into their purse to get another handful of change.
And that's just the teenagers!

In my last life I was evidently some sort of child molester... or perhaps I habitually talked in the theatre... working in retail is my karmic payback.
I prefer them...means I don't have to to to the bored check-out operator....especially as they either bag your items all wrong or practically throw your stuff at you ! 8-)
