Questioin about Bond villains

Hello :)

I was wondering why do all the early villains (or do they all?) when they discover Bond - take them to dinners, reveal plans to him, and treat him as guest?

Why? Just naive, ?? srry for stupid question but I was wondring if there is any logical reason :) -{

    I think they are egotistical - they want Bond to know their plans, to show their class, their good taste. It's a sort of gentlemanly show. These days if Bond was really on to them, they'd just shoot him I the head (like the scene in Austin Powers where Dr Evil's son wants to do just that) and get him out of the way. However, it is also to show the reader/viewer that Bond's cover is blown, and that he is in a tight situation. The bad guy's onto him, what is he going to do?

    Thanks for the reply.!

    Yeah might be because they are egotistical.

    But still dumb stuff. A bit naive if u ask me :)

    in a bunch of early films while they can just shoot him in the head and get rid of him, they show off - and feed their ego? - and in the end - pay for that.

    Do you people think the newer movies have a definitely more realistic approach? :)

    They are Entertainment, to simply shoot the hero would lead to a very short film.
    You have to have scenes where the villain lays out his plan so the audience can understand what's going on.
    and of course give the writers plenty of chances to get him out of a few sticky moments
    with some great action/ stunt sequences.
    After all it's not only the Bond films where the villain could simply shoot the hero in the
    first act. :)) e.g.
    Why lock Indy in a crypt full of snakes and leave ?
    He is an expert on this sort of thing so is likely to find an escape. :D

We have the urge to discuss, on a friendly basis, our future plans and projects with him and are carefully listening to his advice and verdict. ;)
