Here's a look back over the Bourne movies, evem a little on how they changed Bond.

007 in particular learnt a lot following the dismal and universally panned ‘Die Another Day’. The 20th Bond flick took the campy kitsch shtick of Bond’s past and turned it up to 11, leaving the series in need of a stiff kick up the jacksy.
Change came in the shape of the Bond-savy director of ‘Goldeneye’ Martin Campbell, who took the series back to its roots with ‘Casino Royale’, breathing new life into the character (thanks in no small part to Daniel Craig). Bond had depth again and was lauded, much like ‘Bourne’, for its relevance to a post-9/11 world.

If QOS was criticised for trying too hard to be like Bourne, the new 'The Bourne Legacy' appears to repay a debt to Bond, here and there, with, for example, elements of CR-style parkour in its chase sequence with the Thai assassin, shades of TND's Brosnan/Wai Lin motorbike escape and, in the closing moments, an idyll of getting lost on islands in the Far East reminiscent of the conclusion to YOLT the novel.
to be the same film made over and over again.
Well, to be fair, the first three were fairly varied, continuous plot lines following a single character that were widely praised. It's the Bourne Legacy that feels like an attempt to make it into a formula to me.
I agree completely. It's just a different old CIA guy with a thick Southern accent pulling the strings in each film. There will be martial arts, terse dialogue, lots of fictional spy terminology (like, 'the asset is in play!', which means, our assassin has been given orders and is on the move, and I don't know why they don't just say that outright, other than the fact that they need to make the dialogue sound spycool), and a cool car chase later in the film. And Matt Damon will display zero emotion and speak his lines as flat as a Vulcan, breaking the stoicism only to occasionally look slightly frustrated.
I'm okay with that. That's all fun stuff. I do like the Bourne movies but the three (I haven't seen Legacy) really are pretty much the same film three times.
I also do not see this supposed influence on the 'reboot' Bond films that Bourne supposedly caused. Yes, they do have things in common - they're both serious in tone and the action scenes bear similarity (rooftop jumping, shaky-cam action).
However, this is something that ALL new action movies have in common! Anyone remember Batman Begins? One of the worst offenders for quick-cut shaky-cam seizure-inducing nonsense. Also had rooftop jumping (even in a car, but hey, Batman is known for galavanting on the rooftops anyway). The International had Clive Owen squaring off with a villain on a tiled rooftop.
I think the modern 'shaky cam action' stuff is due to the existence and availability of relatively small, handheld video cameras that can be manipulated and moved easily, versus the giant mounted monstrosities of the past, which allows more experimentation and dabbling in more active, 'live' camera action. Running and fighting on rooftops is classic action movie stuff and has been in many a prior Bond film.
Anyway, what others see as 'influence' i see as 'convergence'. Or just progress, I guess.
One of the problems with QOS was the editing, Bourne had four second cuts
to keep the action moving ( computer game influence ) some of the
cuts in QOS were Two seconds, just a little too fast to take in all the
visual infomation, Just my Opinion of course. )
However, I am looking forward to seeing 007 kick ass and show who's boss when SKYFALL is released.
My BF hadn't seen any Bourne films before, and his comment as we left the cinema was "why are they trying to copy James Bond?".
If you haven't seen Bourne 4 yet there is a pretty good version available here:

Who used the shaky-cam effect first? Tony Scott & his ilk were certainly utilising disjointed camera angles & jarring editing styles but I always thought it was Steven Spielberg who used it specifically to convey disorientation in SAVING PRIVATE RYAN's opening sequence. It suited such devastating mayhem perfectly on that film but is just plain overdone now.

According to the article below, Jeremy Renner is not involved in the new Bourne film but will continue working with Universal on an Aaron Cross film.

Hadn't heard that but I'm looking forward to seeing the film. I read of an interview with him in which he said that whenever he gets stopped in the street people always ask him if he's going to do another Bourne. He said he doesn't mind the question at all because he loves playing him so much. I thought that was great to hear. So many actors hate to be associated with one role when they've done a lot more than just that part.
I'm pretty sure the story arc from the old films is complete. They've had to come up with something new. I really don't want to see what the Bond films have done, which is try to extend the story further than it can go.
I think it came from Greengrass - maybe a windup?
