    I can see that, in a way, it's the purest movie ever made. They had nothing movie-wise to build upon, so it was Fleming all the way.

    Or listen to the audiobooks, also a great way to get to know Fleming's source material. I agree Moonraker is one of the best novels and if you choose to only read one it is a great choice. But IMHO you should read/hear them all and just start at Casino Royale.

    Haha I've been dying to read the novels! I've read the first chapter or so of CR at the library and the final scene of OHMSS as well. Very good material. Do you suggest unabridged, or should i stick with abridged?

    Abridged versions exist!? It's not like any of the books are particularly long! A few hundred pages at the most. I can't imagine what they could cut out, to be honest... Fleming was pretty efficient.

    IMO, the two 'biggest' Bond movies are Spy Who Loved Me & You Only Live Twice, both with similar plots, and both by the same director.
    Almost a decade separate the two.

    This, gentlemen, is where we fight. -{
    Which had better?
    Musical score? YOLT, definitely.
    FX? Arguably TSWLM.
    Fight scenes? YOLT.
    Physics? TSWLM.
    Bad guy demise? Obviously TSWLM.
    Henchman? TSWLM.
    Cool Q stuff? Tie (Little Nell/Lotus car-sub)
    Bond actor? Can't beat Connery.

    This is a toss up of the tallest order... but IMO TSWLM wins out because of our acclimation to outrageous, which still seemed a bit much at the time of YOLT.

    Am I right? 8-)

    The precredit sequence for TSWLM is legendary but I Love the ever so Bondian back and forth of YOLT delivered as only the master could:
    "Why does Chinese girls taste different to all other girls?"(Bond ever the connoisseur! :D )
    "Oh you think Chinese girls taste better..."
    "Not better just different like Peking duck taste different to all other ducks" :))
    "Oh honey I give you the best duck" -{ :007)
    Then as he begins to say that would be lovely they flip the bed up and shoot him! Now that to me is classic Bond.

    One more thing about TSWLM I wish they didnt have the submarine open and take the the other subs. Its one thing to remake YOLT but TSWLM is just too close! I think it is a closer remake to YOLT than NSNA was to TB and that was suppose to be a remake! :)) But that said it was one of Moore's best efforts

    Musical score - YOLT all the way though I dig Bond '77 and The Ride to Atlantis.
    FX - TSWLM
    Fight scenes - YOLT especially the fight in Osato's office
    Physics - not sure how this goes into a movie comparison other than comparing models. I will replace with script... Which goes to TSWLM just barely
    Bad guy Demise - TSWLM
    Henchman - TSWLM
    Cool Q stuff, with extra from Japan for YOLT
    Chases - TSWLM
    Girls - TSWLM
    Locations - TSWLM
    Secret Villains Lairs - YOLT
    Title sequence - YOLT

    As for the YOLT Vs. TSWLM debate, I'd like to wade in with my own twopenneth worth if I may.

    Music Score = YOLT

    Special Effects = TSWLM

    Fight Scenes = YOLT

    Physics = TSWLM

    Bad Guy Demise = TSWLM

    Henchman = TSWLM

    Cool Q Stuff = TSWLM

    Chases = TSWLM

    Girls = TSWLM

    Locations = TSWLM

    Secret Villain's Lair = TSWLM

    Title Sequence = TSWLM

    I suppose it's fairly conclusive from the above that I feel TSWLM to be the superior film in virtually every way. But would it have existed without YOLT? Probably not, so YOLT does deserve some kudos for ushering in the OTT epic spy extravaganza.

    For me TSWLM is the ultimate Bond patchwork quilt; a Greatest Hits package of all the best bits from previous films bundled into one glorious 120 minute romp. Does anyone agree?

    I agree. They took nearly every element from the previous bunch & put it in a blender. It could have come out a mess, but it gelled rather nicely. :007)

    You list above that is very good too IMO,
