Well prop fans, this will grow as the screens come down but currently there is a sleek silver birch Aston Martin DB5 parked inside the main entrance plated BMT216A with an Anthony Sinclair suited waxwork Sean Connery in a classic Geneva Goldfinger pose. As you enter the main foyer you will be greeted by an amazing mobile consisting of Goldfinger's Lear Jet miniature, Scaramanga's flying car miniature, FYEO Universal Exports Jet Ranger miniature, Goldeneye "Gunship" miniature with Pierce hanging from the landing skids & a CMGN helicopter from Tomorrow Never Dies.
On the main foyer outside one of the major exhibition areas a glass fronted wardrobe size display case can be found containing very memorable prop costumes from 1962 & 2002, memorable because one belonged to Honeychile Ryder and the other Giacinta Johnson, just opposite a larger display containing the BMW 1200 Cruiser from Tomorrow Never Dies with faceless mannequins attired in Bond's & Wai-Lynn's costumes can be found however make sure you "Look Up" or you may just miss Max Zorin's Airship Industries 6000 miniature (it's huge) passing overhead!
As a taster this is shaping up nicely to being something special...Opens Friday 6th July & runs until September.

They say they don't allow pics, but I'm sure there will be photos online from the opening on Thursday. I'm going next week.

My office is just across the road from the entrance, walked over this morning and they were still building and things still arriving. The brochures are already out, lots of little interesting snippets.

On a related note, the website Mr. Porter has posted an interview with Lindy Hemming in which she discusses her involvement with the Bond franchise and how Bond's style has evolved over the years: http://www.mrporter.com/journal/journal_issue71/3?cm_sp=homepage-_-thereportmi1-_-030712#1

Can someone confirm if this no photo policy is official, if so where is it because I can't find it on the Barbican site?

not sure if this 'no pics allowed' policy is real or not.

if I can't take pics I may as well not go at all.

Can anyone confirm if any Bond goodies will be sold at the exhibition? Thanks
  • HigginsHiggins GermanyPosts: 16,619MI6 Agent
I hope that pics are allowed and I doubt, that they can really execute a non-pic policy with all the mobile phone cams.

I have heard that Pete will be selling some of his butteplugs at the entrance - not sure if that's true

Yes, there is a James Bond merchandise shop situated opposite the main entrance.

Currently there is a no photographs policy inside the exhibition areas at EON's request however this may be revised. I will update this information before the Friday opening.

Well the media view has just ended: The exhibition is entered through a recreation of the classic Bond gun barrel into an exhibition area recreating a very classic Golden scene from Goldfinger. Golden artefacts from that era adorn the walls in sealed display cases, all within a creative atmosphere which is clearly a homage to the great Ken Adam's cathedral of gold Fort Knox set. The next area features a recreation of M's Office & features two Walther PPK pistols under glass, one of which being the Umarex cast silenced rubber stunt which was glued into the holster of Pierce Brosnan's combat vest for the Goldeneye pre-titles sequence back in 1995, the other being the rubber stunt pistol which was to be weilded by Timothy Dalton's Bond in 1989's Licence to Kill which is in fact a prop which was cut from the final edit & has therefore been unseen until this time: Bond's PPK pistol inside a whisky flask. THE NEXT SECTION KICKS ASS...Q-BRANCH with both the underwater & road going miniatures of PPW3O6R from The Spy Who Loved Me, Q-Boat miniature, Goldeneye Piton Gun & a number of items which a member of this forum has recently recreated, also from Goldeneye, and of course alot more displayed floor to ceiling including the stun-prod version of the Ericsson JB988 Gadget phone, The Tomorrow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough SFX Omega Seamaster watches. There's just about what every small boy has ever wanted to find waiting for him on Christmas morning since Bondmania kicked off in 1964 within this magical prop infested section. I could spend the whole day, every day in here easily. Incidently there is also a silenced Walther P99 stunt pistol but it may take you 2 or 3 visits to spot it? Yes Oddjob's original hat, Scaramanga's Golden Gun & Desmond's Llewelyn's Attache case are all present as one would expect. The next section pulls you into what feels like a recreation of a scene from Casino Royale & ends with a nice display of Moonraker artefacts (props) & all this is just the main gallery. There are three further exhibition areas which include costumes, props, production items etc & of course the odd medium sized vehicle or two. If you want to find out what is in the other exhibition areas then come to the exhibition, open daily from 11am from Friday 6th July. Regrettably at this time photograhy is not allowed but this policy may be under review however there is a lavishly illustrated exhibition brochure available.

Sounds good. It's a shame that photos aren't allowed...a classic Bond pose in the gun barrel would be rather cool!

I think that would be permissible. Perhaps arrive before the exhibition opens @ 11am & before the queues obscure the gun barrel entrance.
