Blu Ray collection upgrade- are you going for it, or have you already?

I'm still stone age with DVD's, I upgraded from SE to the Ultimate edition with most of the older Bond movies, but I have no BR player yet.
I'm interested in reviews from fans here that HAVE gone Blu with Bond. Tell us you thoughts!
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

Using a PS3 as a Bluray player and I'll get all the B-Rs as soon as they are out.
My first one has been Thunderball and if you are having a HD TV, Bond on B-R is a must!

I have the set pre-ordered. I have put off buying the Bond Blu Rays as I knew a set like his would come out eventually.

With the first three films, at least, it's not just a new format - the blu-rays are completely restored prints, and rather stunning
    looking.

The latest collection I have is the 2006 Ultimate Edition. Since it is the 50th anniversary of Bond, i think it's only right I spend my well earned money on this awesome collection! I cannot wait to see Bond in blu-ray!

audio casette and listen to them in Bed at night. :007)
    ( I'd invented the audio Book but didn't know it ) :))

I also did that with Star Trek as well as The Muppet Show and Kentucky basketball games.

I pre-ordered the set the first day Amazon put it up. I already have the available blu's as well. Also the laser discs and all vhs sets.

My wife's family had the very first beta max player. So I bought a couple of those as well. Beat the hell out of vhs.

Oh, the money I have spent on Bond...

Reviving this; generally are the BluRays in the Box Set all an improvement on DVD or are some waiting to be improved again?

EG the pts of OHMSS got complaints cos it was made darker, with some moaning that that was how it was in the cinema, get over it, others saying no it wasn't and now we can't see anything.

I know Dr No and GF are much improved, but is TB the better version, wasn't there a rumour that the BluRay was worse than the TB Ultimate Edition cos they messed up the transfer and went with an earlier copy?

Any other areas where some think there isn't an improvement? I know for the UE of MR, the space station scenes (exteriors) didn't look right, they were too dark for my tastes (albeit more realistic).

SF in blu-ray is incredible, and definitely worth upgrading from DVD.

I own all 23 Bond movies on Blu Ray as well. I don't have any knowledge on the rumours though, but I can't really say any of the Blu ray's is worse than the DVD. I have watched Thunderball on blu ray as well and thought it was fantastic! Applies for all the movies really...

Haven't had a single regret from buying the set!

Harrods were showing the Bond BluRay promo on a massive HD screen - never looked better. Unfortunately the stuntmen were also more recognisable than ever.... If you wish to fully enjoy the BluRay then you'll need to upgrade to a full HD screen too, plus a multi-channel surround set. So for now dvd will do for me.

That is so funny. When I was a kid I would do that too, although I was taping Magnum PI and Diff'rent Strokes at the time. I can also remember sneaking a cassette recorder in to Star Trek V at the theater so I could listen to it at home. Too bad that one sucked.

to tape some of the bonds.

I had a library of Trek audio. Regularly went to sleep listening to episodes, at one point, I had about 30 episodes to choose from. Most played were Mantrap, Naked Time, Shore Leave & Doomsday Machine.

I took the leap. As cheap as I am, acquiring each newly released set has been nothing short of a crazy online and bricks-and-mortar treasure hunt and I with this new blu-ray set I actually sat on the fence for a while. Then 2 general things happened; my Ultimate edition DVDs sporadically would not play on my disc player and then, popping in the older (1st generation) Bond DVDs that I've kept as back-up, the grain on my HD TV was woefully obvious, and I kid not, with the same grainy quality of watching old broadcast TV with rainy day reception. All of that is what nudged me over to purchasing the blu-ray set and so far I've watched DN and TND and wow, one of the best purchases I've made in the recent past!

Really interesting thread. Great to read your news and views. Here are mine.

As most know, I have all the Bonds on DVD. Not sure which version, but it was a box set in a tin from about 2003, just when DAD hit the cinemas. I then added each new movie as it was released, DAD, CR, QOS and now SF.

In addition, I have all the movies as digital downloads into iTunes. All on my laptop, some on my iPad as and when I feel like. So Bond on the move is a must for me!

I don't own a BlueRay player and have no plans to do so. My two TVs are old cathode ray! One isn't even widescreen! As I only watch Bond, live sport and news on TV I don't really see the point of spending the money which I feel is better used on other things!

So here it is! I'm in the "dark ages" as some fans would say! I disagree, I have Bond whenever I want just as fans with Blue Ray do. I have Bond on my iPad for on the train or plane, and on my iPhone for on the tube. Why should I pay hundreds for something I already own??

    @strangeways

simple reply: Because it's much nicer :D

But I agree, if you have to purchase an entire new equipment (TV, player and the B-R) it's a hefty step.
Watching the B-Rs on an old non-HD TV does not make much of a sense.

Let me assure you that once that you've done the upgrade, you won't regret it!

Once upon a time, I recorded the first 45 mins of TMWTGG onto a C90 audio cassette.
Listened over and over! Omg I'd forgotten that.

If you're a HUGE Bond fan, I would definitely recommend you save up for a Blu Ray player (of course, you would have to get a HD TV as well).

If you love viewing your favourite Bond films, you may as well get maximum enjoyment. Blu is the way to go.

Aside from Bond, you'll be able to choose from a massive range of films all out on Blu Ray.

I upgraded... but my only problem is that, like a lot of things now, the volume balance is totally. Which means no playing it at night since the sound effects make the room shake if I want to hear the bloody dialogue....... who the hell masters the audio for these things?
