You put 40k miles on a car and changed the oil once?
Yep. Really stretched myself to buy it, then moved house and had to do it up. The Porsche was always on the end of the financial list. It was a great car. I checked the oil regularly though.
I once had an Audi 80 2 litre. I bought it for 2k with 70k on the clock. I took it up to 130k miles with... No service whatsoever! I topped up the oil, had brake pads and a set of cheap tyres and fitted a second hand radiator. Then got two grand on a part exchange! Best and cheapest wheels ever in terms of effective motoring.

Christ, what's a can of oil, a filter and a sump washer cost down your way?
This kinda crap makes me chuckle, ya get numpties complaining that their aston broke after they've ragged it since brand new and never checked the oil.
There was a guy on t'internet who set up his own website to point out how crap his DB9 was. It would appear that some believe that an expensive car miraculously looks after itself and won't require a service within the first few years. What's even more laughable when aston owners complain at service costs etc. I was under the impression that those who ask how much it costs usually won't be able to afford it )
I think what I've learned over the years is that you shouldn't buy a car unless you can afford to buy it twice. That's a good way to budget yourself. I've also got a good warranty on my car now. I think the DB9 is a good car. But I doubt anything over five years old is getting the servicing It really needs. It's ok getting the money together to buy it, but most will struggle with £4k for ceramic brakes for instance. It's alright for the minted guy who specced it, then sold it before these things become an issue for people who stretched themselves to buy it second hand.

Although getting an old Aston Might be a good idea if you want people to think you're Bond.
as there would be so much smoke belching out the Back, People would think you were in a
Chase )

My favorite Bond car is definitely the Lotus Esprit! What a great car!
Also, I always thought it was pretty cool and special that Bond briefly drove an Alfa Romeo GTV6 in Octopussy!
The reason behind this is because I am raised in a family who happens to be crazely in love with Alfa Romeo ) .. My dad has owned so many Alfa's it's not even funny. (He also had the same type of GTV that Bond drove in Octopussy) I also drive arround in an Alfa Romeo myself in my private life, haha didn't have much of a choice! )
Auto Express is asking this same question, the results hopefully to be published in their Bond special on the 19th of this month: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/
