IMDB Rankings

I know that this topic has been posted before, but not for a number of years now - so I thought it'd make sense to do a new topic of it.

So just out of interest, I looked up the IMDB rankings for all the bond films. And here they are:

Dr No – 7.3
From Russia With Love – 7.5
Goldfinger – 7.8
Thunderball – 7.0
You Only Live Twice – 6.9
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service – 6.8
Diamonds Are Forever – 6.7
Live And Let Die – 6.8
The Man With The Golden Gun – 6.7
The Spy Who Loved Me – 7.1
Moonraker – 6.1
For Your Eyes Only – 6.8
Octopussy – 6.5
A View To A Kill – 6.2
The Living Daylights – 6.6
Licence To Kill – 6.5
Goldeneye – 7.1
Tomorrow Never Dies – 6.4
The World Is Not Enough – 6.3
Die Another Day – 6.0
Casino Royale – 7.9
Quantum Of Solace – 6.8

And here they are in order from highest ranked to lowest ranked:

Casino Royale – 7.9
Goldfinger – 7.8
From Russia With Love – 7.5
Dr No – 7.3
The Spy Who Loved Me – 7.1
Goldeneye – 7.1
Thunderball – 7.0
You Only Live Twice – 6.9
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service – 6.8
Live And Let Die – 6.8
For Your Eyes Only – 6.8
Quantum Of Solace – 6.8
Diamonds Are Forever – 6.7
The Man With The Golden Gun – 6.7
The Living Daylights – 6.6
Octopussy – 6.5
Licence To Kill – 6.5
Tomorrow Never Dies – 6.4
The World Is Not Enough – 6.3
A View To A Kill – 6.2
Moonraker – 6.1
Die Another Day – 6.0

So what's your opinions? I think they are overall a little low, and slightly crestfallen that none scored 8 or higher... however, it's nice that none scored below 6.

I was shocked to see the living daylights so low.... and I was delighted that a view to a kill was not at the bottom (very underrated film IMO).

Hmm i feel TWINE, LTK, and OP are all too low, and as much as i like FRWL I'd like to see GE higher. Thanks for sharing!

Those rankings actually agree with me pretty well. Besides some small changes, the only thing that's way off for me is TLD, which I think should be a lot higher. Everything else is pretty much where I would put it, or one or two spots off.

It's odd to see Golden Gun above almost all the Brosnan films.

The ranking isn't far off. OHMSS and LTK should be near the top, Thunderball should be lower down IMO. Other than that it's fairly good.

I forgot to check that one, I tend to deny it's existence... just checked it now... 6 points too many :))

That ranking is a travesty! X-(
Forgive me if I go thermal here, but most people must like their Bonds either super serious or fairly light.
The moderate Bonds (or shall I say, Bonds with a pleasant mix of serious & fantastic) got shortchanged (read: I'm a diehard Dalton/Brosnan fan :)) ).
    Just My opinion. ;)
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

For me, like many others, I think maybe 70% is accurate, but there are a few that I would like to see changed.

I surprised to see how high some were, like THWTGG and FYEO and even more surprised to see TLD so low

I'm guessing that the non-bond fans / casual fans are mainly not too partial to dalton, whereas many actual bond fans love him... that's my guess anyway

Most casual fans have never read Fleming IMO, and don't see why Dalton's movies were so good.
OTOH, Craig's films have that 'Bourne' edge, and they are ready for it now. 8-)

Maybe, I suppose after the Moore years, having Dalton come in was a huge change in direction and tone, that the general audience were not ready for.

Rotten Tomatoes lists Dr. No at the top with CR not too far behind (#4) and Dalton's fairly high (10 & 11). :D

On the other ratings yes. As I said, there's 2 sets of ratings on that site... which is what I meant when I said I'm not quite sure how the site works

Bit harsh on Licence To Kill but when I was younger I found it unbearable so maybe that tells a tale

For Your Eyes Only - agree with this, never really got into this film

Wont argue with the top 4 though I would have Thunderball any day of the week over TSWLM, (never really enjoyed this film too much)

Goldeneye is a surprise, thought it would be higher
