In Vienna when he was being all fuzzy wuzzy with her getting the dress & stuff, I suddenly saw an act, not honest schoolboy crush stuff. Later on the Ferris wheel he dumps that nonsense in favour of the simple lust he actually had been developing.
At least, that's MY interpretation of it.

..and may I ask how old you are?

all that cutie-eyes started already in Bratislava (featured by Vienna) and went on even in Afghanistan when Koskov was history already. worst when he reunites with Kara in the tent - all part of the mission I guess....

As an agent you yourself should know that the deceptive act and reality sometimes blur and evolve.

You must have seen another cut of TLD than I did. All that "fuzzy wussy" and "cutie-eyed" nonsense you detected was nowhere to be seen in the version I saw. Emotion, yes, but nothing "cute" about it.

    Can we allow Bond emotions...?

    I think so.

Well, even the op, who seems to be a HUGE TD fan(boy) stated that the cutie-eyes where part of the cover. ;) ( but he's wrong imo as that continues and is getting worse long after the cover is blown by Koskow).

Maybe Daltons 'glazing' caused some unsharpness in your reception, BL :D

Yeah, eyes glazing over with anger is not the same as tears.

    Ok, got it!

So the 'glazing' is a sign of "anger" and "frustration" and not because of the actor is a weak person - or a - bad actor :)) .

As we see the same 'glazing' in the balloon popping in Vienna and in most of the scenes with Kara, why is he so obviously angry and frustrated about seeing her? :D

I mean, she's annoying but parts of his mission was to pretend that he's interested in her?
Plus she's blonde and reasonably good looking ;% (however, I find her look going into the annorexic direction).

Why does he show his disgrace so obviously like Sir Miles does with me? :D

On balance I prefer LICENCE TO KILL to THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS, but it's a close call. LTK's a different film & requires a different performance. Dalton's often accused of over-intensity & does indeed appear to be more Iago than Bond at times, but I put that down to his RSC training. Better an actor who puts too much into a role than one who drifts through a film for the paycheque I'd say.
I do like the revenge theme of LTK. Some may not like it because it strays from the formula but that's precisely what makes it better for me. Personally, I'd have gone the whole hog & ditched Q.
It's a shame Dalton never got the chance to do a third film. I reckon it would have been more like TLD with him lightening up a bit.

I think they missed a chance in LTK to have Sanchez Kill Q.
I think his Death scene, Would of been very Hard hitting.
( as he was almost a father figure to Bond )
And set up the revenge story very nicely. Mabey could
of got a few more Bums on cinema seats to help the
    boxoffice.

If they decided to kill off Q in LTK it would have been the dumbest decison ever by EON Films, plus i doubt the Brosnan and Craig eras would not exist if that were to happen.
  • BlackleiterBlackleiter Washington, DCPosts: 5,615MI6 Agent
How so? The Craig era has existed fine without Q up until now.

Hey, I teared up quite enough in TWINE when Q used his exit strategy, thank you very much.

I enjoy most of TLD but Dalton's performance does not feature so highly in this decision. Perhaps the international settings lend more weight as does Barry's score. In some ways Dalton has a more layered performance in LTK particularly in scenes with Robert Davi. Shame about the Bond girl Carey Lowell she really does not fit with Dalton.

Both are great, but LTK is my first Bond in theatre, so I remember it very fondly. I went to see it twice, and I love the movie. TLD I think is great too. Timothy Dalton was Bond in my first wave of Bondmania around 1987. That´s when you discover the character and the movies, and you put on a black jacket and a bowtie...so I´m very fond of both movies.

Let's see how both movies do when you break it down:

    Which has the best...

    PTS- TLD
    Song- TLD
    Score- TLD
    Bad guy- LTK
    Henchman- LTK
    Bond Girl- LTK
    Action- LTK
    Story- TLD
    Suspense- LTK
    Humour- LTK
    Production value- TLD
    Locations- TLD

    Whoah! 6 to 6....

LTK was my preferred Bond of the two, but I think TD gives a more balanced effort in TLD. I enjoy the romance aspects with Kara, the humor with Saunders, the anger after he is killed. LTK he is nearly all rage except for the very beginning and end of the film. After watching both recently, I might just enjoy TLD more. Both are solid entries though.

I love how Bond seems to have no respect for money, even in SF
When he casually tells Moneypenny to put ( Four Million Euro ) it
    all on red. :))
