) What kind of a list is that? - Why a question mark on 4? Shoulnd't you just put FRWL up there automaticly? ... I do have a feeling though that Skyfall might have the potential to make it in a lot of people's top 5's!
Nice to see films that are generally regarded amongst the weakest getting votes, such as Diamonds Are Forever, Moonraker and Die Another Day. No Bond film is without merit......except Never Say Never Again.

I can overlook the awful CGI in Die Another Day as well as the flood of references to being the 20th film and the 40th anniversary, as for the theme I just try and pay more attention to the scenes playing in the background and hope for the end SOON. The story of Die Another Day I felt was very good. I love the hovercraft chase was awesome, the sword fight was amazing, the chase on the ice was cool, no pun intended.

1. From Russia With Love. Favorite Bond film, and just about as close to flawless as I think there IS a Bond film.
2. Goldfinger. Mainly for sentimental reasons, as this was the first Bond film I ever saw. Still, this was classic Bond and of superb quality.
3. Dr. No. Mostly for Connery's ruthlessness and lack of cracking jokes compared to pretty much every other film prior to the continuity reboot. You can tell they were still kinda feeling their way around (Bond has a girlfriend, the music that came with stomping a spider to death...), but it HAD to be good to start the franchise. Also, Jack Lord's Felix Leiter will always be Felix Leiter to me.
4. Casino Royale. Despite despising Quantum of Solace (1. Slow the film down!!! 2. Although Daniel Craig probably helped this film, some of the plot devices brought the phrase "huh...?" to mind...), Casino Royale made perfect sense. New, true-to-Fleming Bond, the few gadgets that do appear are well-done, and the simple fact that the film had my 100% attention throughout the poker scenes...despite the fact that I find poker really boring to watch (albeit not to play).
5. GoldenEye. Again, really for sentimental reasons since it was the first Bond I saw in the theater. Since I collect East Bloc model cars in 1/43 scale, you may also understand why I likee a certain scene from this film. Also, I'll say this for Sean Bean: despite his flawed age, I really have always liked him as a villian.
Honorable mention: On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Is fixed firmly in sixth place, JUST above Thunderball/pretty much tied with it. However, I should note that I had little to no problems with Lazenby. I didn't particularly warm to Telly Savalas' Blofeld (huge Kojak fan growing up, plus I'd seen several other street-smart/wiseguy Telly Savalas films), but could definitely understand him. No, my big problem was Blofeld in a neck brace while Irma "I never show up again" Bunt tries to kill Bond and kills Tracy instead. That has ALWAYS bugged me (in the novel, it was Blofeld behind the trigger and Irma Bunt driving the car). Had Blofeld been behind the trigger, I may have rated this one considerably higher.

Thanks! I've always kinda wondered behind the reasong for some people's choices (NOT singling anyone out; just curious as to why certain Bond films are the way one ranks them).
1. GoldenEye - This was the first Bond movie I had ever seen. I've always thought that it was well written and the actors and actresses really melded together to make one incredible movie.
2. Casino Royale - In terms of a reboot, this was a great movie. To me Daniel Craig takes the role and makes it a more believable and realistic character, which I don't want ALL the time, but for his style, it works greatly. The fact that he almost dies twice and is tortured is quite interesting.
3. Man with the Golden Gun - This is one of my favorite Moore films. I just think that some of the scenes are just classic Bond.
4. World is Not Enough - There are so many good things about this movie. The story, the characters, the movie never really lags except for in the sub. One of Brosnan's best.
5. Die Another Day - I can overlook the awful CGI in Die Another Day as well as the flood of references to being the 20th film and the 40th anniversary, as for the theme I just try and pay more attention to the scenes playing in the background and hope for the end SOON. Tomorrow Never Dies- All that I love in a Bond movie is here- Classic music, IMO THE best Bond girl in Michelle Yeoh (and great chemistry between her & Brosnan), a very Ken Adam-like production design, some of the best fight choreography in the series, nearly unbeatable (but believable) henchman, emotion at the loss of an old love, getting drunk before an expected shootout, ruthless (even cruel) dispatch of the villain... just nearly perfect. The Living Daylights- Dalton was in many ways the best Bond IMO, ultimate Barry score, nicely convoluted story, excellent anti-climactic dispatch of the villain. Goldeneye/Licence To Kill (tie)- Hard-edged, tight stories. Thunderball- Absolutely classic mix of Fleming story & movie excess, a great Connery performance! The Spy Who Loved Me- Roger's best performance mixed with the best of all the comic book stories; pure fun.

My current favourite five, with abridged commentary:
1. From Russia With Love - Pre-formula. A nearly-perfect hybrid of the novel and the still-young cinematic interpretation.
2. Goldfinger - The Precious Classic FormulaTM defined. Shirley Bassey's work is...um...golden.
3. Casino Royale - A bold revamping of a series which, after 20 films, frankly needed one. Unconventional casting with Daniel Craig pays off in a big way. James Bond is closer to the novels than he has been since Dalton, minus leftover Moore issues.
4. On Her Majesty's Secret Service - My favourite Bond novel brought to life. The final scene is brilliant.
5. Doctor No - Still love this film, and its many iconic/history-making moments.

"I am not an entrant in the Shakespeare Stakes." - Ian Fleming
"Screw 'em." - Daniel Craig, The Best James Bond EverTM
my list has changed quite recently so beware...
5. Casino Royale- Modern Fleming, pure Bond and I love the action scenes, a lot better then i expected
4. The living Daylights- Dalton is really good in this, love the action scenes as well and the sub plot
3. TWINE- Forgot how awesome this movie was!! Hadn't seen it any years it has probably the best pre-title scene and the story is good with 2 of my fav actors in it (patrick malahide and michael kitchen)
2. TSWLM-Funny, awesome, Roger Moore at his best
1.FYEO- Probably surprising a few people this was the film that got me liking bond, awesome bond girl, cool chase scene, score and ending all round fav Bond film and defiently underrated.
Other films which are up there and that i considered-

1. From Russia With Love - romance, intrigue, memorable faces and places that keep me enchanted to this day.
2. For Your Eyes Only - my first Bond, action packed Bond at the Olympics, Conti's fun score, the gripping climbing sequence, and solid rivalry plot in place with Columbo and Kristatos.
3. The Spy Who Loved Me - great repartee of Moore with the cast. Nice settings, the Lotus, the PTS with disco Bond 77 (rip M. Hamlisch) and the cliff jump
4. On Her Majesty's Secret Service - wow what a score, What an ending, a fantastic Bond girl, strong villain, and another awesome ski chase
5. Goldfinger - epic, classic, a winner. Too many good scenes. The start of something big.

Slightly off topic but related to people's ever changing tastes, I rewatched GOLDENEYE last night & enjoyed it more than I've ever done. Perhaps I was just in the mood. I think it may (at this point anyhow) have displaced THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH as my favourite Brosnan Bond & possibly now sneeks into my Top Ten. Even more shocking to me was after watching it, Sean Bean turned up in drag on BBC1 in ACCUSED. And I thought Blofeld was the only villain who felt compelled to don fish-nets & pearls!
Casino Royale is just behind. Also up near the top five are Licence To Kill, Thunderball, Octupussy, For your Eyes Only and yes The World Is Not Enough. Those are all pretty much personal favororites and guilty pleasures.
aaahhgh!...Thud..(sorts out tie) what a helpful chap
It's all right. It's quite all right, really. She's having a rest. We'll be going on soon. There's no hurry, you see. We have all the time in the world.
