What If Lewis Collins Had Become 007?

Moving on from my George Lazenby hypothesising, I wondered what people thought of Lewis Collins as 007? Though I'd have loved to see Timothy Dalton play Bond from FOR YOUR EYES ONLY onwards, I can't help feel Collins might have been another grand choice. Akin to Connery with his mix of twinkle & danger, I can well imagine Collins' insubordination & callous attitude becoming his trademark. A bit like dear old Daniel Craig?

i think Collins would have made a great Bond, he was rugged, could act the hard man, and could put on the charm, he was great in the profesionals,,

im sure i read that he did apply for the job,

I believe he went for an interview with Cubby Broccoli that turned into a disaster. Collins came across belligerent & his fate was sealed. A great pity.

My hopes had been high that Collins would get the job after Sir Roger - how disappointed I was when I have seen first pics from Mr. Deaton, err Dalton

But I am not sure if Collins in all his roughness would have been" in times of Aids and monogamy" like the producers said at that time.
