Need help with Moonraker cig case

Mr WebberMr Webber AustraliaPosts: 114MI6 Agent
Love the disguised Bond gadgets and made a replica of Number 2`s door opener awhile back and started on the Moonraker safe cracker to partner it up with. Ive had to scale everything off Rogers finger, if it is Rogers finger and have a couple of issues before i can finish it off.
The size of the nine cigarettes in the case suggests to me that they were fabricated for the case, modern cigs are only 3/4 the size compared on a scale difference, any help there would be great, also Im thinking the thing next to the cigs on the right is a black matchbook, any thoughts? Finally, the best thing i can come up with to do the lettering would be some custom waterslides, Can anyone help with those? Cheers.

The cigarettes are Rothmans, but a special edition of the time, Im not sure you can still get them? maybe in a specialist store.

What you are saying is a match book, is actually a silver/chrome plate or cover, you are seeing a reflection from the LCD screen above it :007)

Thanks for that, great help. Ive found a vintage pack of Rothmans King Size that will do the job nicely, they dont have the gold band as seen in the heros but i can add those. Ive always found that reflection a little weird as the "flap" is at a 45 degree angle away from the light source, anyway can always go with a silver/chrome style matchbook cover, its all i can think it would be at this point, may have been a "special" matchbook not used in the final production.

King size will be to small, these ones are longer and have a longer filter. Could the case be a cigar case and they placed the the cover to fill the gap ?

It could be, but seems a little thin for cigars, even the flutes. All the cases I searched through had the cigs running up and down and not side to side and anything marked cigar case were thicker. Will do some more Rothmans gum shoe work. I have some vintage Boyards cigs from a Blade Runner project but they are too big, can only fit eight across and not nine.

you need to look for Rothman Royals :) I have always thought that the case was something else and made to look like a cigarette case, give me your addy and I will show you what I mean ;)

It's not a cigar case, it's too shallow for that.

    I'm thinking woman's vanity case/make up?

It's a tricky one this as it really can't be done for real. The real case was at the barbican and as I suspected, the display etc was all built into the safe door, the 'cig case' is just a shell with some cigs stuck in it :))

Nice work with the door opener, pm sent.

A great vintage prop from the Connery era.
I was able to locate what was exactly used for the parts inside the case of the door opening device. Yours is very close....NICE JOB!!

Well I havent had any luck opening any doors with the other one either but it still looks good. :))

Thanks for the feedback fellas, much appreciated. -{ Will send a PM on those parts Ed.

Im confident the case will be the right size, seems to scale up ok, the Royals will be the decider on it though.

Just on the Rothmans Royals, found out pretty quick that most retailers havnt updated their sites since the cigs
went out of stock but I was persistant and found a retailer that claims to have new stock, added on the 21st of
May this year, if its legit they are probably rip offs but as long as they are the same size, no biggie.

Will place an order and be the test case, as I said before will have some spare packs if it all works out. Massive thanks again
danjaq_Off for the inside info. So in just under 24 hrs pretty much all the issues I had finishing this have been
sorted out here, smashing. -{ -{ -{ -{ Heres the link to the Royals to check out.....

DO NOT BUY FROM LINK BELOW...........ITS A SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    UPDATE.

Well, no sign of the Royals and no responces to the dozen odd emails that have been sent and no help from westernunion.
    Just have to take a loss on this one but apologies to those who were promised spares, my intentions were honourable. -{
By no means will I give up the hunt for a real pack of Royals so all is not lost.

what about the super king size ciggys? I think they could be a good 2nd choice
  • Mr WebberMr Webber AustraliaPosts: 114MI6 Agent
For sure but now that I know what the real ones were I must have them. :s

It hasnt been all that long since they stopped making them so im thinking that there is still some unopened product out there somewhere, started contacting cigarette collectors/clubs that I can find online for any info and have even contacted Rothmans, yet to hear back. Worth a shot.
