Sorry if this has been asked elsewhere. Does the version worn by Bond simply have the hood and throat thingy removed or has it had the zip and buttons removed as well?

Bond's jacket has had the hood, zip, neck piece, about 6 buttons (for hood & neck piece) and chest flap removed.
And for what it's worth... I LOVE my Barbour jacket!!
Front buttons that hold in the hood, the zipper, that holds the hood, the throat latch, the tag on the outer front pocket, and possibly the chest flap are all gone.
Thanks for the information. Did you do the alterations yourself or did Barbour do it for you?
My tailor and I, total cost for alterations with water proof thread and the tin of BARBOUR wax, was $60.00 total, smile on my face, priceless. The look of horror on my wife's face, when she asked me "...You are planning on doing WHAT to a $900 jacket?"
Thanks Stefan. Now you have altered the jacket does the wife appreciate what exceptionaly good taste you have.
Barbour are expecting more jackets in the next week and I hope to pick one up. Thanks for the photos. I remove hoods from all jackets I buy as I don't like them. Rather wear a hat. Will the get the amendments done by a trusted local tailor.
I wasn't a massive fan of this jacket when I first saw it, but it looks brilliant in the film and seeing so many people saying how good it is on here really makes me think I'm going to end up getting it! )
mine has to go back to Barbour as the lining has come away - they have been good in keeping up to date on repair, but its gone off to Europe to be done!!! well travelled jacket!! I need it back before the weather gets any worse!
Has anyone bought the barbour stock jacket that is similar to the bond one and what do you think of it. I can't afford the sports jacket till Jan and I bet I wont be able to get one then .
With the weather in PA, this has become my go to jacket for the last few weeks...perfect for middle temp days. BTW, I am very glad I didn't remove the zipper/hood...has come in very handy.

I'm a PA resident as well! The jacket has been perfect so far!

Spoke to the store on the UES in NYC and they said they would be restocked in January, at which point they'd give me a call ... will post you guys when I receive the call
Separately, they mentioned that they didn't believe the jacket was made in small (though the website seems to say it was) and that medium would be appropriate for someone who typically wears small (i.e. me). Can anyone confirm that to be true? Sorry if this was covered previously.

Well, it *was* made in Small as I bought one from the original run. I had posted previously about how difficult it can be to gauge what the proper size is to buy for clothes. I buy shirts anywhere from extra-small to large and pants anywhere from 28 to 31 depending on the manufacturer. In fact, I can range from Small to Large in shirts from the same manufacturer!
When I first saw the jacket in a store I tried on a Small (my regular size) and was surprised at how "tight" it was. Then I tried on a Medium and was sad to see that it seemed too big for me. After switching between the two several times I decided that it just wasn't for me, which made me sad as it was the nicest, most well-designed and well-made casual jacket I had ever seen. I thought about going back and trying them on again but they sold out instantly.
Then, a J Crew opened up a few weeks later and they had the jacket in stock (they had been sitting in the stock room for weeks awaiting the delayed opening, apparently). I tried on the Small and it was snug but not tight, despite me wearing a dress shirt and a medium weight wool sweater underneath it. I tried on the Medium and it was clearly too big for me - sleeves far too long, far too big at the bottom (probably cut that way to accommodate a bird in the poacher's pocket), and loose in the body (which, in my experience makes a jacket less warm). It was more comfortable in the armholes and across the back, but the shoulders sagged a bit on me. So I ended up buying the Small and have not in any way regretted it.
To give perspective I'm a hair under 5'9" and 163 pounds, with a 42" chest, 46-1/2" shoulders, and a 32" waist. I think I may have been a bit heavier (in terms of another 5 pounds of fat) when I first tried the jacket on. I would not be able to put a very thick sweater on underneath it but it's surprisingly warm, especially with the storm flap closed, so you wouldn't need a lot on underneath it. In fact, a while back I was out with a friend wearing a thick sweater and a parka, and he was shivering just standing outside - meanwhile I was wearing just a thin merino wool sweater and tee shirt under my Barbour and I was fine.
To be fair, I find that most men in North America wear their clothes too large and loose and people like that would find this jacket very restrictive. In that case to feel loose in the chest and shoulders they'd probably need a size where they would have to have the sleeves shortened and the jacket taken in (width-wise) at the bottom.

What do you think of this as a cheaper alternative?

I am tempted to buy it in Olive.
I would get this jacket if they shipped to the States.

Very nice, good find, next the Barbour stock jacket, I think this is a great alternative.

As a 6ft2, 40" chest - size M for snug or would it be too small? What's David/Mantis?
