Big thanks to everyone for helping with my question of fit. Although I still have about the same level of confusion. Lol. Seems everyone is all over the place on sizing in this thing. I find it incredible that Daniel Craig wore a medium after what I've read. He's my height but has more muscle mass, same weight, broader shoulders. I dont see him in a medium in this thing. Just my take.
I moved back up to Alaska last year and have had to make peace with the fact that there is retail void here beyond baseline Nordstrom and Banana Republic. So I never have the option to try on clothes I'd want to purchase. I'm just gonna have to flip a coin between the Large and XL.
I am equally confused having obsessively read differences of opinion on sizing for this jacket. As a latecomer, I think I was fortunate to snap up what was probably the last pre-order XL from Cultizm. Come February, should this jacket be far from sartorially draped around my 41-42" chest, I am praying that there will be peer among this community that will be similarly challenged and prepared to swap. I don't think it's a poor investment either way.
Remember that Barbour do an alteration service. They have just returned mine and its perfect, you'd never known it had been altered. Customer service there are very friendly

Well, I have a Large from them on order, so we'll see.
February 2013 will be like Barbour swapshop in here.

Logistically, it would be exceedingly difficult for me, living so remotely, to have alterations done by Barbour. But, it's probably a good option for many.
I just found these measurements for a large, as described by a seller on Ebay:
Armpit to Armpit - 57cm
Back from bottom of collar to hem - 76cm
Width of the bottom of the jacket - 60cm
Sleeve length from armpit to cuff - 52cm
If these are accurate, I think the large may be a more tailored fit on my frame
You contact them and they send you a package to return to them in Newcastle and then post back. Mine needed a small repair so took a while but the sleeves were shortened by 4cm and they did an excellent job and kept me informed as to what was happening. Think it's £27.50 for that bit of work
If you wear a size 38 suit, and you find that size small works well on you, then you're probably a size 38. Either that or you look completely ridiculous. Slim fit is one thing, but I think it might be physically impossible for a true 42 to fit into a 38 with destroying the jacket.
I can understand why you would think that but I can assure you that the measurements I gave are accurate. I measured myself first (I'm a personal trainer so I know how to make sure measurements are accurate) then had the measurements re-checked by two different trainers two weeks apart and they were the same. I think that the fact that I have to wear smaller sizes of suits and shirts says more about the manufacturers than it does about my measurements.
I've gotten a large number of compliments on my size small Barbour when I've worn it and one of the most common is how well it fits me ("It looks like it was made for you"). The same with my "Skyfall-fit" suit that I bought 3 years ago (38 slim). I can confirm that I certainly don't look like I'm ready to burst out of the seams, and the people who were raving about that suit when I first started wearing it were 30 and 40-something professionals, not 20 year old hipsters :-)
As I said, the fact that a 38 slim suit fits me when I have a 42" chest comes down to vanity sizing IMHO - I don't have bespoke suits made to measure. Interestingly, I have a couple of extra-small tee shirts from The Gap which are loose on me through the body, yet Zara's (a European chain) medium tees fit me perfectly!
im a 42 chest, 34 waist, and ordered an L .. hope im right...
Same measurements as me. I have a Large. It will fit fine.
thanks alot ...
The Large is 40-42 in the chest. I tried a similar styled jacket in a Large in the Barbour shop in Carnaby Street. The jacket was tailored and the fit was fine. I tried on an XL for comparison which was obviously roomier but at a cost of losing a tailored look. As most of my jumpers are thin I decided I didn't need the extra room and went for Large, which is on preorder. I have a 40" chest.

My pleasure. Don't forget the jacket is tailored so it will be closer than a regular fit. Also I've heard it stretches with wear. Like I said I'm a 40 chest and I don't envisage the large causing any problems.
I was in one of the Barbour outlet stores and they had a fishing jacket in the same range (only any good for that job) but was selling for £200 + down from over £400!! so I don't think they put the price up because of Skyfall it was just the price
It was a higher price before the film - it's a limited edition partnership with a Japanese designer (the Barbour rep told me that in particular is the reason for the tight fit in the shoulders).
BTW I just received this email back from Barbour who I emailed earlier this morning. They gave me a list of North American retailers who will carry the jacket. If you want the list, please send me a PM.
Due to the extreme popularity of this Barbour Beacon Heritage Sports Jacket (MWX0364OL71) an additional number of the jackets are being made!! They should hit the U.S. market sometime mid to end January. Please see the attached listing of retailers that have bought into more of these jackets. I am quite certain most will assist with a pre-order and any specific sizing questions!
EDIT: I just called a few Barbour stores and seems like the price will be $799. Of course my wife is gonna kill me

Thanks for the details. If anyone's looking for a large, Barbour by David Wood still has a few left for pre order. They only require a deposit of $100, the rest before they ship in January. They only allow one order per household for the pre order. I jumped on the large since they were out of XL. May have to tell my wife not to bid anymore on the XL eBay jackets.

That's correct. It's in partnership with Tokito (Toe Key Toe) Yoshida. He has another range out this year, which is very popular here in Tokyo. I tried one on last week, but it cost ¥110,000. That Japanese love British brands more than the British.

The more I read, the more I think my pre-order XL is going to be too generous for a 41.5" chest. However, I do measure 47" around shoulders, so I don't know how well a large would accommodate. I wish I had managed to scoop up a large on pre-order too for actual comparison. At any rate, I don't think selling these jackets will ever be difficult.
Gutted i ordered a medium and a large were supposed to be kept for me now they are telling me they forgot to put the order through so I can only have one as they made a mistake!
Seriously not happy with goodstead a medium and a large were supposed to be kept for me now they are telling me they forgot to put the order through so I can only have one as they messed up
Ross
Ross, hi am getting mine through them, I have a large coming if you get medium and its too small and my large is too big then we can swap, apparently won't have them till Monday as they arrived a few hours ago.

Sleeves in the medium on the new Tokito were hilariously short. Good old Japanese! I am hoping I can manage with a Large...

I'll just try to stop worrying and see how things go
If so what would you want for it shipped to the US?
You just want an extra hood? I'm in the States, you can have mine for...$20 shipped? Whatever you think is fair.
Same measurements as me. I have a Large. It will fit fine.

I have it at home mate, what specific measurements you after mate?
Just that I'm 6'4", 235 lbs. and have a 43" chest. I guess the sleeve length, chest and length top to bottom. Thank you!
Im similar stats, mine fits well. This coat is narrow in shoulders etc hence why XXL (im usually XL in coats etc)
Will measure later mate!
Thank you, I'm normally a XL or XL long (where applicable)
