I'm about the same size, have my XXL on preorder here in the US, but have been assured I can send back for an XL if the 2X is too big. When you get your XL, let us know how it is in comparison, I was going back and forth between the 2 sizes, but ordered up due to the comments on this thread. I was able to try on the XL in the Beacon Sporting Quilt, which was way to small.

    Thanks in advance!

I think alot of people who ordered a medium , due to fears about sizing , are going to be disappointed . Im 5'9'' , with a 38'' chest , and I'm wearing a size 'small' . Although this pic isnt a great representation , it gives an idea of the overall fit . I'm also wearing a sweatshirt and a T-Shirt under it !! My advice : if you're smaller than me , then a medium will probably drown you . It's designed to be a very slim fit . Good luck guys .

Thanks, and I suspect you're right. Based on a few semi-conflicting accounts, I can't help but wonder if there are variations between same-sized jackets. That is, some Mediums may be bigger/smaller than other Mediums. But I am exactly as you suggest, someone who opted for a Medium because of all the "jackets run slim, order up!" warnings, and because I do wear Medium clothing in certain brands. I would feel more comfortable today if I had a Small on the way instead of the Medium, but who knows what will actually arrive.

I tried on two different size Smalls at different stores and there seemed a fair bit of difference between them.

A big variable between people is how they have different ideas of what constitutes "proper fit". For me personally, I find that the majority of guys wear their clothes far too big (i think this is more common in North America than in Europe). Many times I see people post pictures of themselves wearing jackets or sweaters that seem clearly far too big yet they say that they fit well. And I've also seen people post pictures of themselves wearing jackets that even when done up seem to fit them perfectly but then they complain that they're way too tight.

For example, I'm 5' 8-3/4", 163 lbs with a 42" chest and I wear the Barbour in Small. It's snug but not terribly so. The Medium on the other hand had me drowning in it. Yet I've seen people here post smaller measurements than me and say that the Medium was too tight. None of us are right or wrong, it's just personal taste. But the problem is that someone with your exact measurements could tell you that you "have" to get a certain size and you could be extremely disappointed in the fit. Sigh...

Yeah Bud appreciate the honesty but think you got the wrong sense of this place, your better off on Ebay because no-one here will pay those prices. We are mates here for the most part, not merchants.

I'm 6'2, 166 pounds, with a 40 chest. I'm slim but muscular and have fairly broad shoulders, though not a weight lifter, etc.

I have a large on pre-order and would like a slim fit. I almost went for medium but was scared off by some of the measurements posted here of the shoulders. My slimmest fitting jacket is about 18 inches in the shoulders, and that constricts my movement slightly, though I don't mind because it looks good. Anything smaller and it would look bad. My understanding is that the medium is around 17.5-17.75 in the shoulders. Can anyone confirm? (By the way-I mean measured on the back side of the jacket across the top of the shoulders). I also don't want it to be huge in the body...

Like many here, I'm hoping with fingers crossed that it works. If not, maybe someone will swap me for a medium!

I'm playing the waiting game as well.

I have a XXL on order from Kafka and I'm 6'2", 210 lbs, 44" chest and 33" waist. My challenge is that I have rather large triceps, probably too many pushups. I have an XL Bestaff Trailmaster that fits nicely once on but its a bit of a struggle to get my arms in there. That said, Belstaff sizing is all over the map as well.

I probably fall into that category of fellows who normally wears his jacket too big. I've never really gained an appreciation for the tight European look. It always appears as though you've borrowed your little brothers jacket :D ... but that's just my two cents, or pence, worth.

I also plan on stuffing my Guernsey sweater on under it. After all, it drops to -40 here in Canada some days.

    Cheers.

    Without seeing the expression on your face, it's hard to tell how well the jacket really fits. -{

My XL was too big. I'm 6ft and 186lbs, 41-42 inch chest. It was a good fit in the shoulders but to big in the chest at pit level by an inch or so and waist was way too big. Arms would need taking up too. Waiting on a L delivery in the next couple of weeks. Will I think be a question of wether it's too tight in the shoulders.

I'm also a 44. I've just been sold my kafka xl has shipped. I hope to get it tomorrow. Ill report on the fit and post a pic

Arrived in the mail this morning from kafka. I'm very pleased. It just fits in the shoulders and fits well around the chest. I'm tallish and the sleeves are long enough too. I may consider getting it tucked a little in the middle but I'm certain enough about the size to have already removed the hood zip and buttons. I apologise for rubbish images! If its any help to any one I'm 6/2.5 in socks.... 44 chest. 34 waist. 51 shoulders. I think this will fit you better that your XXl mate.

Having read through some of the posts on this thread again. I have to say I am a little confused about sizing. I about 5'9 with a 38 chest so I am either a small or a medium in most clothing. I have a medium on pre-order from Kafka, which I am now wondering if it might be too big. Any thoughts?

I think you will simply have to try it on, shoulders etc make the diff with this jacket, it's narrow up there

I'm just 1/4" shorter than you with a 42" chest (and 32" waist, not a lot of fat on me) and I wear a Small. It's a bit snug but in a warm way, not a "the fabric is pulling every where" way. The material has stretched out a bit over time. The biggest concern for me is how tight the jacket is in the armpits, which creates a feeling of it being too tight. The Medium was a *little* better in the pits, but only slightly so (but too big every where else). I can wear a dress shirt and medium weight wool sweater under my small.

Thanks for the replies. I am suprised that you managed to get into a small LF - I thought that with a 42" chest you would be looking at a large/x large. Will have to try it on (as and when it arrives) and see if it fits. Thanks again

I am delighted to say (type!!) I have purchased the barbour sports jacket. Although it is certainly more expensive than I would normally (ever!) pay for a jacket, I feel this is an investment for life! I think everyone here would be in the agreement that it is an ultra trendy and cool jacket but can anyone who physical owns the jacket describe its practicality in terms of durability, water resistance, warmt, comfort, etc. Does it facilitate an option of an under liner to increase its thermal properties? Has anyone bought the jacket and regretted there purchase due to any of the above factors?

Would greatly appreciate some feedback on it.

    Thanks

Well from my experience its a great jacket, kept me dry in snow and rain but doesn't keep you that warm. It keeps the wind out but you need something warm underneath. Other people may have different views.

This is my second Barbour and as others have suggested, the musty smell is part and parcel of them! You could spray it with a bit of 007 cologne!

As for seanyeile's questions, I have had mine since October and worn it through snow, freezing rain and torrential rain and always remained warm and dry. It cuts the wind extremely well and although doesn't have much by way of insulation, I have never been cold when wearing it. On particularly cold days, ie -25C - I have worn a long-sleeved t-shirt and fleece or similar underneath and been fine.

I have found mine to be extremely warm. In fact, I was wearing it one night with the storm flap closed with a thin scarf, a tee shirt, and a medium weight wool sweater underneath and I was perfectly warm, yet two friends of mine wearing winter coats were cold. Mind you, mine is snug which I find always makes a jacket warmer.

And agreed on the water-proof and wind-proof properties of the jacket. Despite the price it has exceeded my expectations, and will be a keeper for life.
