its hard to tell in your pic but arn't your buttons SA? The buttom bottom lines up with the INNER pocket line, not the outer one if that makes any sense.
I don't think it is. If you were to draw a line between the buttons on the pockets, the bottom button on the SA version would be above that line. Looking at the photograph it would appear that the buttons are aligned. Personally I don't think it makes a great deal of difference. It's a beautiful jacket. Enjoy it!
DOES ANYONE STILL NEED ONE? I RESERVED ONE AT A SHOP AND JUST CALLED TO SAY IT HAS JUST COME IN, I ALREADY BOUGHT MINE A MONTH AGO SO IF ANYONE IS IN LONDON AND WANTS AN L, PM ME IMMEDIATELY AS they will only HOLD IT FOR TODAY!!!!!!!

Watching the blu-ray today, you can clearly see in the lodge scene when Bond and Kincade are looking at the mirror, that the windflap is clearly still attached to his jacket. For me, this solves the debate.
I just picked up a hacking blazer from the spring 13 line. It's a great alternative if you can't find a lodge jkt. Also see my earlier posts for other alternatives from fall.
For those following the Kafka pre-order subplot, I followed my jacket's path via online tracking from Dundee to Edinburgh to someplace in Germany (?!?!) to Louisville, Kentucky, where it has cleared customs and is now en route to California for delivery tomorrow or Tuesday. Hope the rest of the Kafka Krew's jackets are similarly close to delivery.
I was able to try on both a medium and a large. I'm 5'10 170 with a 40" chest and 18" shoulders. The medium was perfect for the length and sleeves, but my arms were pretty constricted. It felt very tight and my ability to cross my arms in front of my chest was constricted. Shoulders sat maybe 1/2" high but that looks to be about where they sit on DC's jacket. He wears a medium right?
The large seemed to be perfect in the shoulders and I could cross my arms and wear a sweater under it without constriction. I would need to have the sleeves taken up about 1" and the waist slimmed 2" or so because its too boxy as is. Can barbour or a tailor do those alterations? I was thinking about having the one I get sent in to be SA anyway. I think I'm leaning toward the large as it will actually be comfortable to wear vs the medium.
I've heard these stretch out though. Anyone know how much?
I received my jacket from Kafka today!! Fits perfect and I think Robert & co did a great job answering our emails as well as getting the jackets shipped out. Didn't like the 10% UPS customs fee but it is better than paying US retail all told.
I did notice that this jacket uses the same material for the shoulder, pocket, and sleeve patches as the rest of the jacket. My original small had a lighter green with a different texture. I prefer the more matched material though.
I do need to know one thing. How do I get the waxy, greasy feel under control? If I sit I'm my car with this jacket on, it will most likely make a mess of the leather. I would prefer to get it to the point where it does not come off on everything it touches. Including my hands. I suppose after time it will get better but I am considering rubbing it all over with dirt. That may also make it look more SA.

I had this problem with my FilsonxLevi's Trucker jacket. The best way is to just wear it. From moving around, and being in the elements, it will calm down. You don't want to wash it or use any type of cleaner to remove some of the excess as it will damage the finish. I found that this Barbour jacket was A LOT less oily when compared to the Filson jacket I have.
Thanks for the advice and that's good to know. I suppose my memory may be fuzzy because it seemed like the first one that I got was a bit different. I can see in photos from today that there is a color difference in the patch pieces. Glad to finally have one that fits!

I am not sure where the correct buttons are suppose to be. I did a rough measure and the bottom button is 8" from the bottom of the jacket. The middle is 4.5" above that one. The top button is 6" above the middle button.

That sounds SA to me. The easiest way to tell if its SA is if the spacing between the middle and lowest button is smaller that the spacing between the middle and top buttons.
For some reason the non SA jackets have even spacing between all three buttons.
So I have made some headway on exchanging my Jacket with evenly spaced buttons for an original. I have talked with some people at Barbour and after showing them pictures of the differences they are locating a replacement. Hopefully they can find one, and i hope I wont have to pay any more import fees. I have never paid so much tax on one item before.
Received my Large from Kafka yesterday. Love the jacket but the buttons are evenly spaced. I am 6' and 190 lbs and the fit is just right with a medium weight sweatwr. FYI -Customs was $58 from UPS.
I will be getting a size small in the next couple days from J. Crew, but it might be too small for me. Anybody needing a small that has a medium to exchange? I'm located in Los Angeles.
Hello AJB--my first post, and I'm not sure how active I'll be in general, but I wanted to add a few things to this discussion.
First- Thank you very very much to all of the members who have been posting size info, pics, etc. This has been incredibly helpful, and I've been checking this thread literally every day since early December.
My jacket, size M, pre-ordered through Pilot in Leicester (netclothing.net- listed in a Barbour release as an official vendor) arrived today. Jacket is marked 11/12 and is 100% screen accurate, including contrasting material on the shoulders, pockets, which I quite like.
The jacket shipped DHL, arrived in under 2 days, and NOTHING was due at delivery. I had called ahead, and was informed that no duty had been applied, despite 332 gbp declared value. I have no idea how this works, maybe just luck of the draw. US customs lists applicable duty at 8.7% of declared value for "waxed cotton jackets".
Second, a note on sizing, since there still seems to be concern about this. I'm 5'9", <150lb, size 36R chest in a j.crew suit, and with a light sweater this jacket is quite snug (but not too snug) in the arms and shoulders. That is to say, in my opinion, height/weight/chest size will generally not be good determiners of fit. It really depends more on shoulder and pit-to-pit measurements. What I recommend doing is measuring a garment that you already have... either a lightweight jacket, suit jacket, or a dress shirt that fits you well. Measure the shoulders by going seam to seam, straight across the back, measure pit to pit the exact same way (but below the armhole), and compare these to the measurements Barbour provides for your size. I found, for instance, that the dress shirt that I recently ordered in size S from Billy Reid has almost exactly the same measurements as this jacket, and have found the jacket true to size. If there are questions about how to do this, I can try to post images of what I mean.
All in all, this is an incredible coat, and I'm super happy to have got one. The only difficulty is figuring how to button it up again after you undo everything. Again, many thanks to all AJBers who posted their valuable info here.
So mine arrived this morning from Selfridges. I was a little disappointed at first to see the labels were already removed (obviously someone else has given this one a go before me!) but pleased to say that it's a perfect fit.
Weirdly I had the impression when sticking my arms in that it won't fit, feels like it won't, but when on, feels amazingly comfy. I'm also surprised by how warm it is.
First post on here, having recently purchased the lodge jacket just before Christmas I was over the moon 2 get it.The jacket was a small and was a bit on the tight side but felt ok on.The inside pocket had the date as 11/12.Now I managed 2 order another jacket from net clothing a medium this time and received this on Wednesday. This seems 2 b the last run for a while and was glad 2 get another as the medium is a nicer fit. What I feel is a bit strange is this new jacket has 11/12 in the inside pocket even though its 2 months down the line. The new jacket also seems 2 have an extra button with 2 small and a large where as the old 1 has 1 of each(spares).I must add that the old is non SA and the new 1 is SA.Jacket wise the old seems 2 b slightly lighter on the shoulders and on the arm panels. Now I'm thinking has the old 1 been produced some where else and lacking the barbour quality control as they seem 2 b quiet on the whole SA problem.Does any 1 think I could take this up with barbour about the old jackets finish and c what they say or leave it b and sell it on.Very strange the quality control on this jacket as barbour is a quality company.Loving the whole topic about this jacket.Love 2 here what barbours comments are on the button issue, common barbour give us a reply on here.

Gone and sold already!
but yes, I noticed the shot as well (the jacket is clearly left open).
Great picture. Thanks! Also clarifies the button placement issues.

Excellent, thank you.
Mine is screen accurate, woot
Have followed this thread with great interest! I'm nervously waiting the delivery of this jacket in a size medium...
I'm a shade under 6 foot, (182 cm) 38 inch chest and I weigh 11 stone 4 Ibs (160 Ibs).
Hoping it fits!
Anyway, all seem very helpful on this site and I'm very glad to have found it.
Cheers
(also redyed my scarf to a better SA color)
