Thanks guys. My 2 years of waiting finally paid off yesterday. I was able to snag a Commander from J. Crew at a reasonable price with a discount I had. I just hope it fits! I'm 6'0, 150lbs, ~37 inch chest and got a small.

I'm pretty much the same size as you, 155lbs and 38" chest and I have a medium. You may have to exchange.

Did you try both on? If so, how different was the medium from the small?

I've read so many various sizing opinions that I wound up going with the small. I wear smalls in everything from t-shirts to button-ups to jackets. If you went through my closet you wouldn't find a single medium. I'm a fairly slim guy so I went with the small. I'll find out later this week either way. They have a medium in stock so if I have to exchange hopefully it will still be there when the jacket arrives.

This is me as well. In all my Jcrew buttono shirts I wear a slim small, tshirts are smalls, henleys etc.

You may be ok with the small depending on your build, posture, and preference for how you like clothes to fit. I haven't tried on a small, but when I did try on the medium, I said "No way am I going to fit into a small".

I do prefer a snug fit but I don't want it to look small on me.

This is what ultimately sold me on getting a small:

Under sizing, it says that the model has a 38 inch chest and is wearing size small.

I am a 42 chest and I bought the medium. If they had a large I'd probably have bought that but the medium fits well enough, if a little tight when layering.

That makes me feel a little better about getting the small. If I want to get technical, I'm actually a little under a 37 inch chest. More like 36.8 haha. The only problems I've ever had in my lifetime of buying smalls is that the arms are not long enough. But from what I've read, arm length doesn't seem to be a problem with these jackets.

I have a size large that I need to swap for a medium if anyone has one. I bought it on release and then lost weight so it doesn't fit me any more.

I'm in the UK so if anyone is interested then please let me know.

Got my Commander jacket in over the weekend and I absolutely love it. I ended up getting a size small and it fits just like I expected it to. I have a 37in chest, I'm 6', 150lbs, and 30in waist. My only complaint is that for such a fitted feel in the body, the arms are a little baggy around the elbow. The quality is excellent and just as I would have expected from the great things I've heard from Barbour.

The thing that made this jacket even more awesome was that I only paid $301.00 (tax and all) brand new. It was the last one in the last size they had so I guess they were feeling generous. Out of respect for the store's employee who gave it to me for this price I won't publicly share the retailer's name. Either way, I've been wanting one ever since it was first identified so it's great to finally own one! Here's a pic I took with my phone after the unboxing; I'll try to add a few more as the opportunity presents itself.

Looks good. I got my sleeves tailored from the elbow to the wrist to slim the sleeves down. I thought they were too baggy. Really makes a difference so you may want to consider that

Always great to get something you've wanted for so long at such a good price. Fit looks good. Congrats! :)

Thanks guys! kadd, did you send it to Barbour to have that done or just a local tailor?

Barbour in the UK don't do sleeve adjustments. They do body alterations only if I remember correctly. So I used a local tailor.

Oh ok. I'm here in the US so I may consider finding a reputable tailor after winter.

Hi all, know this is a bit of an old thread but read on here some people have hoods for the Tokito jacket they don't use. I have a commander jacket and as far as I am concerned it is the perfect jacket other than the lack of a hood (it's cold and wet in the UK most of the year and I'm not as hard as bond!). Does anyone have one they are willing to donate or sell? Many thanks :007)
And now we know what "C" stands for!

I bought a hood from these forums and finally found a tailor willing to attach a zip to the neck (although I was nervours about "ruining" a Barbour). It does make the jacket very practical, so good luck.

    Hey guys.
Anyone have an extra throat latch laying around that they don't want?
I lost mine, Barbour was supposed to send me a new one but sent me a makeshift one instead (no leather backing or buttonholes, and I don't think it's quite the right shape).

Has anyone successfully removed the poly interior Barbour hid under the lining? I was thinking of having my tailor do it.

Don't do it. The wax bleed will ruin the jacket and everything you wear under it. It will be miserable to wear too.

It causes a lot of sweating.

A lot a lot of sweating.

It's basically like wearing any other type of rain coat. I have another, similar Barbour which doesn't give the feeling of wearing a plastic rain coat.

This is pretty much why I haven't done it yet. Have you done it?

The thing is, while I've heard this before, but I've also got another Barbour that is unlined in some areas, and which I've never experienced that bleed through with. It is however a little thicker (I think it's 8 oz. instead of 6) and I have not yet re-waxed it.

However. Were that to become an issue with the sports jacket, I'd consider buying a thicker tartan material than the thin Barbour lining (perhaps the older, thicker one?) and having it put in.

The longer I keep this jacket, the less afraid I become of modifying it. But yes, I'd rather avoid wax leaching through, so I'll have to be careful. I'm just getting a little tired of feeling like I shouldn't wear it because the sun might be out. 8-)

Interested in a To Ki To jacket in either M or L. If not that, also interested in a hood for the M or L jacket. Please pm if you're interested in selling either and hopefully we can work out a price!

I dug mine out earlier (worn a handful of times) and finally thought about doing the mods.

I guess many have done the mods now - 4 plus years later? :))

Buttons of course look easy but the zipper maybe I will wait until I next visit the UK (though I see looking back one member cut his out without unstitching somehow ?:)

Did Jany and Co remove the chest storm flap for the screen version?

Use very fine and sharp scissors (Victorinox knife scissors are great) to cut the zip out. Get right under the seam and cut as close as possible. After you can use tweezers and easily tease the rest out. It's easy and it works perfectly and looks as neat as you can get and exactly the same as the SU coats.

The storm flap was left in for the screen used one. Mine (SU) has a simple tack stitching at the top which is almost inside the sleeve. I guess stopped it from slowly working back out in action sequences. There is no tacking anywhere else so it must have done the job.

For the buttons, you'll need some Barbour wax to apply afterwards to blend in the stitching holes. You need to rub it in with a soft toothbrush to reset the fibres and mask the holes.
