Does anyone miss SPECTRE in the Bond films since the 60s? I do.

I miss it. Especially the way Connery pronounced it. Last time I heard Connery utter "Spectre" was in Outland... :))
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

I miss all the larger than life villains that SPECTRE produced, and the menacing east European accent Blofeld had up until YOLT.

I miss the idea of having an enemy organisation, but can't say I miss SPECTRE.

Quantum is a good replacement, and although it plays no role in SF, I hope it returns in a future flick.

I always thought Spectre was always in the Bond films, the villians have to had some ties or assistance from them.

Seen or unseen, yes, I could believe that.

Hopefully Quantum will get up to all sorts of Naughtiness in the next few Years. :007)

I think Quantum, up to now, have had very weak plots, such as the one in QoS, which was hardly something for the world to worry about, unlike SPECTRE’s one in Thunderball.

Besides, “SPECTRE” is a more menacing name than Quantum, which sounds like an airline company.

With it being a reboot, renaissance, a rebirth if you will. Perhaps
Quantum will become SPECTRE after a coup. With a firey young
    upstart Blofeld taking over. :007)

Spectre was more of a big deal in the films than the books. In TB the novel their mission is the last big throw of the dice before retiring rich, after that it's only Blofeld on his own with some hired hands, a sort of Moriaty figure. It's only in the films they were behind everything be it Dr No or Klebb's machinations.

Spectre worked better in the old days when it was all about the Bond cool persona, exotic locations and hardware, now the mystery of what the villain is up to and who they are is a big thing, Spectre seems generally predictable unless they revamped it totally.

That might be a good next step for Eon: reintroduce/reboot Blofeld, who then takes over Quantum and makes it into a proper threat, that needs the likes of Bond to deal with it.

SPECTRE's story is over. It was part of the Connery era, and should stay that way IMO. For me, quantum is a decent replacement. I hope, and think, it will return in a future bond film. Maybe craig's 4th outing will be "The Property Of A Lady", in which quantum's leader is female. That would be good IMO

I agree SPECTRE's time has come and gone, and I prefer the idea of variant bad guys. As OHMSS followed by DF proved, a recurring adversary can be a bad thing as well as good one, even with good actors! Thank God Blofeld was dropped down that Beckton Chimney!

I am mildly curious about the idea of Quantum reappearing in the future, but the story would have to be damned good to justify them reappearing. The one thing QoS did seem to establish in the Opera that was fresh, is they seem to work by committee, with no defined central leader. - Something that would make it far more difficult to smash them as an organisation. A snake that grows multiple heads if you chop one off!

Of course, all this assumes the writers will choose to go down that road in the future at all.
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

No, not particularly. They were good when they were around, and I feel EON made the most of them. Anything more would be too much.

Some good ideas on this thread. I too miss Bond having the regular arch-enemy of SPECTRE to do battle with. I can't see them returning anytime soon with all the legal wranglings over it, so I suppose we'll have to make do with Quantum. I preferred the SPECTRE of the earlier films where Blofeld is never seen & various operatives were assigned master schemes. It allowed for variety of villain but also a certain continuity.
I've said before I'd like to see more of the mechanics of Quantum. Where do they operate from? Who's the leader? Who comprises their members? Perhaps leaders can be 'resigned' from their post when they don't perform adequately, giving us a modern spin on the electric chair scene in THUNDERBALL. Perhaps the Bilderberg Group could be taken as Quantum's model. The possibilites for this organisation are endless.

Whether or not I miss SPECTRE will pretty much depend on how Quantum pans out.
By the way, are you gonna eat that?

I would like to see Bond smash quantum in his final 007 outing (his 6th film :))

I agree with both your paragraphs.

I do think, though, that “Quantum” is a very weak name for a criminal organisation. I find it hard to believe a criminal organisation would choose such name for themselves.

Just think if they'd added Spectre to NSNA! Keep it in the 60s.
