NEW FAV BOND FILM!!! My life has been changed!!

When I first got into Bond, I watched all of the Moore's, the Connery's, Brosnan's, Dalton's and the Craig's. When I was in the middle of these watching's I was on fire for Bond. Loving it, and finding it very addicting. Coming out of my lounge watching great films like FYEO,TSWLM,GF, YOLT, TLD,TWINE I went to the DVD store and grabbed OP and OHMSS. I grabbed OHMSS because there was a Bond I had never heard of and a film i never heard about. Remember I was young then. I grabbed OHMSS and I hated it. There wasn't funny lines, heaps of girls and heaps of action like Moore and Connery. For me it was dull, and when Bond was bedding with the "angels of death" I turned it off shaking my head I put on OP and i enjoyed that 1. That was four years ago, and now I am a Bond fanatic. I've seen all of them, except for OHMSS, heaps of times. I've always stared clear of OHMSS, maybe becasue I remembered how bad i thought it was and how disappointed i was about it. I joined this forum in 2010, and I've "matured" in Bond. Last year I converted a friend of mine into a Bond fan and he went away and brought all of the dvds. This year I was looking over old threads on this forum and I read a post on OHMSS that Thunderpussy wrote, I think it was you, saying that when you watched it you hated it and then you watched it again and it slowly crept up until it was your top Bond film. After reading that i impulsivly borrowed it from my friend and I have been watching it and i LOVE it. It's like you find a Bond film you havent seen yet from the 60's that they bring out suddenly now. Diana Rigg is extremly gorgeous and sexy, George has a big physical presence and his acting is way better than I expected it to be. The score is awesome (ive heard the main theme b4 I have a CD of it) and i just wanted to ask has there been in any Bond films you've hated, but you've watched again and it has grown on you/much better then you expected it to be.

When I first watched OHMSS, I really didn't like it. In fact I thought it was one of the worst Bonds and made fun of it while watching. I even made a post on here a while back about how much I disliked it. Then I watched it again, and though it was decent, passable as a Bond film. Then again, and I thought it was pretty damn good. And now it's one of my favorites (close to being top 5), and I consider it one of the best Bond films.

I think going into it the first time I just didn't give it a fair chance. I had a lot of negative notions about it before I had ever watched any of it, which is something that I didn't really have with any previous Bond films. But yeah, it seems like this progression of opinion on OHMSS actually happens to quite a few people.

I'd never seen OHMSS before, having heard largely negative feedback from almost everyone, until I caught it on TV a couple of months ago, and it instantly became one of my favourites.

I first saw Die Another Day in the cinema when I was about 7 years old, and because I then didn't see it until earlier this year, I could remember almost nothing about it other than that it was overwhelmingly far-fetched, which, coupled with everyone always saying it was terrible, led me to believe that it was rubbish. When I did see it again recently, I loved it. Yes, it is OTT to the point where it becomes absolutely ridiculous, but it's still insanely good fun to watch.

The point is, I don't think there are ANY bad Bond films. I've always appreciated the ones that carry the more serious tone the most - OHMSS, both of Dalton's films, GoldenEye, and both of Craig's (yes, I do like Quantum of Solace) - but even the more far-fetched ones are still always a good laugh.

I'm another who on first viewing didn't like OHMSS. Although it
Quickly rose in my affections until it's Been my #1 Bond film
    for many years now. :D
LTK was another I didn't like at first but with a few viewings it
    too became a firm favourite.

For me, nothing will ever displace From Russia With Love as my favourite Bond film. Not even On Her Majesty's Secret Service, which, admittedly, I didn't like much before. It did grow on me, though - to the point where it's now number 2 on my list :)

My appreciation of On Her Majesty's Secret Service has grown a little over the years but it still remains one of my least favourite films. From a physical stand point George Lazenby is fine but the acting is mainly poor, no charisma at all. The romance with Tracy suffers as a result, I do not believe it. And don't get me started on that cringeworthy montage. Also, the Piz Gloria sequence is way too long than it needs to be.

Having said all that, the film has great ski chases. Telly Savalas is the best of the visible Blofeld's and the only one with any real menace. Marc Ange Draco is one of Bond's best allies. And also a superb score from John Barry.

For me, OHMSS is good when you expect it to be bad. On that basis, I have enjoyed it, but when I put it in the DVD thinking, hey, I enjoyed that last time, so it's a good 'un, its cheesiness leaps out at me. In the run-up to Xmas I put on the amazing ski sequence, with Bond and Tracy, and my sister said, 'Hey, Napoleon, turn that off, that guy's acting is awful!'

(Yes, I have insisted my family call me Napoleon for some years now.)

I discovered OHMSS in the early 80's and have enjoyed it ever since.
But I only RECENTLY discovered TLD after joining this site, and I feel as the OP does concerning that one!

i agree with scrummy theres no real bad bond films, but som are better than others,

i think theres more i dont like than do, im not a Roger fan, Dalton was ok, but a poor choice for the roll. Brosnan in my opinion brought bond back to being popular to the masses, not just the hardcore fans,

Connory is the tops for me, then brosnon but Craig i think he will topple Brosnon for me after skyfall,

anyway, my fav film is Goldfinger, that movie got me hooked as a child, thunderball next, then i think goldeneye, OHMSS is a good film, we tend to look far to close at a new actor taking the role, none of them have produced good work in the 1st film, Connory was blind drunk (for real),, when he acted the Casino bit and said "Bond James Bond" for the 1st time, in Dr No, GL would have ben better second film, brosnan got better as did Dalton, DC has improved and will grow with the role,

I wasn't keen on OHMSS on the first few viewings. I preferred Bond to be a bit of a blank canvas around whom all manner of crazy things happened. All the emotional stuff of him getting married, etc made him seem, well, normal. As I've aged I've found I now prefer a more humanised Bond. A hero's fallibilities makes me root for him, such as Indiana Jones & his phobia of snakes.

I never used to like OHMSS. I found the plot boring and hated the idea of Bond with one woman. I found the majority of the film tedious and ridiculous.
It has improved with every viewing though, to the point that on my last two viewings I considered it something of a masterpiece. I think this is partly down to being an adult now and appreciating aspects of cinema that the original viewer - 8 year old me - couldn't. Telly Savalas is my favourite Blofeld and I really like Lazenby. It would have been interesting to see him do another film (career wise, something he really should have done) and although he's not perfect, I think he does a fairly good job of taking over from Connery.
I now adore all the Cold War stuff so FRWL and TLD have both grown on me.
FYEO and OP were always my lowest ranked films but after a recent rewatch I found that they weren't as appalling as I remembered, even if they are still never going to be favourites.
TSWLM was one that I always found ok but after I last watched it I realised how much more there was that I really liked about it.

I guess our tastes change and we notice things that we didn't originally.
    Relax darling, I'm on top of the situation -{
