The Sean Connery films really are the titans of the bond collection, however they were not all amazing. I would rank mine with 4 brilliant ones, giants of the series, but the others are average. Goldfinger would be top,a great villain, great plot and Sean at his finest, FRWL and DN would follow and the top4finished with TB.but YOLT and DAF are by no means as entertaining to me. Id be interested to hear your opinions on this and why you like certain films or otherwise. Btw im not including NSNA.

Here is my take on Sean Connery's Eon Bond films.

    Classic Bond.
    Goldfinger
    From Russia With Love

    Good, solid films.
    Dr No
    Thunderball

    Guilty pleasure, despite Connery's non-performance.
    You Only Live Twice

Weak film, but not without some merit.

Rated purely on how much I enjoy watching them:

    Goldfinger
    You Only Live Twice
    Thunderball
    From Russia with Love
    Dr. No
    Diamonds are Forever

By no means does this mean that I think You Only Live Twice has a plot as solid as From Russia with Love.. I just tend to enjoy the classic 60 styled fantasy of YOLT a lot, and I'm not disturbed by Connery's weaker performance..

Diamonds is at the very bottom for me, I almost dare to say that I enjoyed even NSNA more then DAF...

Really they are to hard for me to order at times I had TB on top than after re-watching DAF I love that for all the laughs. So I don't know, but why neglect to include NSNA. It may not be EON but it is SC final Bond film & it is unique in showing a aging Bond as opposed to just ignoring the fact that this man pushing 70 is fighting it out on the Eiffel tower. Also physically Connery looked better prepared for the role in NSNA than he did in DAF. Also unless you are just a die hard Moore fan, which is fine -{ , I don't know how you could think some of Moores final outings are better than NSNA. IMHO I rank all the Connerys above all the others except the DC films. (obviously I am a die hard Connery fan) :007)

I'm with you. Although I didn't include it on my list, I would put NSNA above all of Moore's films simply because even an aging Sean Connery nailed the Bond character better than Sir Roger. (I know - my bias is showing!) ;)

I'm always hard pressed to name a favorite Bond film let alone ranking the films of the actor who I believe is still the best Bond. But I'll try:

    1. Thunderball - I just think this one has it all.

2 - 4. Dr. No, From Russia with Love, & Goldfinger - I can't decide. I love these films. They all pushed Bond towards the greatness of Thunderball.

    5. You Only Live Twice - People who don't like this are missing out on the fantasy aspect. Once you get it the movie is very enjoyable.

    6. Never Say Never Again - The best final Connery Bond film

    7. Diamonds are Forever - I still like to watch this one for laughs. But Connery really isn't Bond fit in this one. This movie and parts of OHMSS is where the comedy Bond movies start. I think Live and Let Die is a better funny Bond movie than Diamonds are Forever.

    1. From Russia With Love - Terrific espionage thriller.
    2. Goldfinger - Best fantasy Bond picture.
    3. Dr. No - Great mixture of espionage & fantasy.
    4. Thunderball - Best epic Bond picture.
    5. Diamonds Are Forever - A sly black comedy let down by the ending.
    6. You Only Live Twice - Too OTT but great production values.
    7. Never Say Never Again - A missed opportunity to return to '60s highs.

An interesting point. Deborah Lipp in her excellent book notes that Connery is the coldest of the actors to portray Bond, having never had to show much emotion. She has a point. While he's good when finding a gilded Jill Masterson, he's somewhat dismissive of Domino when informing her of her brother's death. Or perhaps he's just being enigmatic. Do others agree with this?

1 - Dr No - Classic in every respect. YOLT used to be top for me, but my mind changed over time. Might be due to Honey Rider...
2 - YOLT - A very underrated movie. Very enjoyable. Memorable. Great locations and action. Lots to like here.
3 - FRWL - A decent, slow-paced movie. The train fight makes the movie for me - love that scene.
4 - DAF - It's camp, it's cheesy, it's different, and in many ways, Moore-esque with the humour.... but I like it and enjoy it.
5 - GF - It's a good film but I find it very overrated. Many people cite it as the best.... not in my opinion.
6 - TB - Boring, boring, boring. It had some good things about it, but mostly a snooze fest for me.

NSNA is that awful that I'm not counting it, and prefer to deny it's existence :)
    1 - LALD, 2 - AVTAK, 3 - LTK, 4 - OP, 5 - NTTD, 6 - FYEO, 7 - SF, 8 - DN, 9 - DAF, 10 - TSWLM, 11 - OHMSS, 12 - TMWTGG, 13 - GE, 14 - MR, 15 - TLD, 16 - YOLT, 17 - GF, 18 - DAD, 19 - TWINE, 20 - SP, 21 - TND, 22 - FRWL, 23 - TB, 24 - CR, 25 - QOS

    1 - Moore, 2 - Dalton, 3 - Craig, 4 - Connery, 5 - Brosnan, 6 - Lazenby

I don't get why FRWL gets so much praise. It is decent, but lacks some action. It is slow-paced. Here is my list:

    1. Thunderball
    2. Goldfinger
    3. Dr. No
    4. FRWL
    5. YOLT
    6. DAF- I feel this is the worse Bond film of them all. Connery's performance sucked, the storyline sucked, I didn't like Las Vegas as a location, and I really dislike recycling the actor playing Blofeld.

One of the biggest problems for me is completely overlooking the seriousness of Tracy's murder from the prior film. I was anxious to see Bond get some revenge and they just lightly have him tracking down Blofeld and moving on like it's business as usual.

Theres a fan made trailer for Diamonds are Forever that has Gregory Peck in the part of BLofeld, i think he would have been a better choice for the role:

Yes, of all the Bond movies, I find this one the most sleep-inducing, though it is extremely well acted, and is as realistic as YOLT is unrealistic. Two ends of the Connery spectrum, so to speak.

    1. Thunderball

My favourite Bond film. Love the villains, locations, plot, gadgets, girl - everything :) A lot of people's big problem with it is the long underwater sequence later on, yet I think it's great and is part of the reason I love it so much.

    2. Goldfinger

It comes really close with FRWL. It tends to be whichever I've last watched. There are many fantastic parts but to single out a few I'll go with the whole golf course sequence, the DB5 chase, the bit inside Fort Nox and the final bit on the plane, just because it was how we all learnt why you can't open a window on a plane. ;)

    3. From Russia With Love

It's just all so beautiful and as time has gone on my appreciation for the film has grown enormously. It isn't a Bond film like how we will come to know them, but it is still a brilliant film. I like the realistic plot and despite his late appearance, the character of Red Grant tops it off!

    4. Dr. No

Don't really know what to say about this. I like it and for the first film it's really good. There are improvements to make but it's a nice starting point for the franchise. :)

    5. Diamonds Are Forever

I quite enjoy its silliness and it really isn't too bad a film. However Charles Gray is my least favourite Blofeld and I loathe the Vegas car chase. It's crap anyway without having to notice the car switching sides for the wheelie when the camera cuts. X-(

    6. You Only Live Twice

I find it so dull for the most part. Apart from the Little Nelly sequence and the volcano sequence, I just don't enjoy it that much. :#

    7. Never Say Never Again

I actually rather like some of NSNA. I couldn't ever consider it as a 'proper' Bond film and I've only included it because almost everyone else seems to. But yes, it isn't all that bad. I considered putting it above YOLT. {:)
    Relax darling, I'm on top of the situation -{
