Inane, piddly, SkyFall Props

The Bond ExperienceThe Bond Experience Newtown, PAPosts: 5,490Quartermasters
OK, let's turn this into a little fun thread...what seemingly inane props/items can we find from SkyFall...so far we only have stills and trailer to go by and some blog videos. There is the literary magazine that supposedly M has....I am sure there are others.

For any computer knowledgeable folk out there, at 12 seconds into this trailer we see the back of the computer missing its "card"...my question is, is this a piece that can be purchased separately from this model of computer? If so, where?

It looks to me like the internal HDD has been removed.

These HDD usually look like that:

That would also correspond with the spoken text: " 3 months ago you have lost the drive containing the identity of every agent...."

Would have thought they would be using Solid State Drives by now considering the superduper touch screen coffee table they had in QoS!!

It probably was a Solid State Drive, they're not different in size from the 2.5 Sata HDD's. Only about a million times more expensive ;P The second thing is, that this is a VAIO Z or S series, these are quite pricey and usually come nowadays with an SSD in standard.

Only kidding, was just going by the picture :D

Personally I could never go back to a "normal" hard drive for hosting my OS

If I would be the Mi6 director, I'd insist on traditional HDDs for senstitive data instead of SSD.

You can delete traditional HDDs much better and safer than SSD drives plus you can physically destroy them much better.

Not sure what SSD Sony is using, Apples SSDs are far smaller than the gap on that Notebook from the trailer.

The computer in the trailer looks to be a Sony Vaio S 13 inch (2011 version but not sure) and they all come with a normal HDD, unless you buy a customized one. But a customized Sony Vaio S always uses two SSD's to make enough memory, and the computer in the trailer only have one hard drive connector cable. It also sounds like in the trailer that only one drive is missing.

You could contact Sony to get a replacement hard drive for a Vaio S if you want it on your collection. But the question is, how much memory does the HDD in Skyfall have.

It was defineltey customized, tehy ripped it out the laptop!! I honestly have no idea if this will even be seen in the movie I just know thats the "standard" laptop that ships with the model of Vaio they used, could defineltey have been a different sized drive or indeed SSD

Since MI6 is an organization using high-tech equipment, I really would doubt that they're still using HDD drives. Bondtoys said they're easier to destroy, that's right. That's why MI6 should use the SSD, because firstly they would not expect that one of their devices will fall in the wrong hands, secondly: they probably would like to keep their sensitive data when by accident one of their notebooks meets the floor face to face :D Anyway: if you would like to destroy a HDD or SSD, both would not survive a hammer hit anyway ;P The most important thing is that SSD drives are making the whole system 2x faster, so really, why MI6 would still use HDD's ;P

There's no way in hell I'm buying a hard drive because one gets ripped out a viao in SF.

Sure it's a nice shelf filler, but it's stretching it a bit thin ain't it? A golden gun, sure, a walther ppk, certainly, jaws teeth, but of course, a hard drive..... I'm sorry, a what?

Luckily, SF will feature some proper kit.

In a self imposed Skyfall free bubble until its release, only know that theres a young Q. Can only agree with MG`s wishes for some smokin kit. If they can squeeze in some creativity alongside the product/logo placement when it comes to the great mans toys, I will be even happier.

Don't panic, you'll not be disappointed. Plenty more cool stuff than mere laptop hard drives.

    Computers? What are they?

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks.

I must admit this on the one thing that I always found a bit alarming with Bond when I was a kid - he gets access to all these lovely toys in the vehicles, watches, clothes handheld gadgets etc, and they usually get soundly trashed! I was grateful when I released nothing awful happened to Little Nellie, and The Q Boat (though in need of repairs) survived too!

Re the Laptop - I agree with Arbogast777. Seems odd to waste time smashing open a perfectly good computer, when it would have been just as easy to half inch the computer itself? If they were worried about tracking devices, the drive itself would surely have a small GPS tracker inside it, since it has the critical info? (Looks confused).

Mantis - If you are going to get the drive, I suggest getting a separate laptop as well. That way you have a prop that can also double as a spare component if need be! :007)
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

So my wife is watching the SkyFall trailer with me today and she casually remarks, "Oh, M has the same chandelier as us..." What? So she walks me to our foyer and points up...then points to the chandelier seen when M is asking Bond where the hell has he been....and viola...another inane Bond prop found.
