ok, im starting to feel what Graham from Br is feeling. I am getting blasted with requests for opinions and measurements through here, filmjackets and styleforum. Its ok but like I keep telling people, im not a tailor so I cant give concrete fit advice. And as mentioned before the only real way you will ever know if a garment fits is by actually trying it on.

Anyway, i took some measurements of mine and this is the best I could do

Chest (armpit seam to armpit seam) 20 inches
Now this was actually really hard to measure because of the cut. It kinda tapers out in a way and my peacoat has still been sitting in its box (Dont worry, that will change soon) so the chest may be off by a half inch or so.

The rest of these measurements are ACCURATE (Taken with tailors tape laying flat)

Sleeve Length (Shoulder seam down arm to end of cuff): 25 Inches

Back Length (Base of collar seam down back to end): 29 Inches

Shoulder seam to shoulder seam across back: 18 Inches

This is for a size Medium

I would really like a BR in medium but will have to trade something to get one, before I put them on eBay would anyone be keen on swapping a BR for a pair of brand new Tom Ford quantum sunglasses? Never been worn, 007 edition all packaging intact? SA colour.
    Thanks

You Sir, are a legend. Thank you for doing this. My leather jacket is 18" across at 20" pit to pit. While the medium might be a bit roomy for me, I think a small would risk being too small in places so I'd be better off tailoring a medium for a made to measure style finish.

I've found a tailor who said looking at David's pictures that he could size a medium down to a small without it being noticeable anyway. Would save me an international return so medium would be a safe option. Emailed BR to change my order, fretting finished. Discovered I'm a 37.5" chest, so close enough to 38". I've asked Graham to confirm. Thanks all who helped me out. Yes they should supply complimentary valium for ordering this peacoat with the xmas card.

Also expecting a medium and not sure whether size ordered is correct.

I know some of you have the Skyfall Barbour. I have the Barbour in medium and it fits snug but perfect (only sleeves bit too short). Would this mean that also for the BR peacoat medium would be fine?

Who of you has both jackets and are you happy with the same size?

    Hey Gents! Please read!

So, I've been going back and forth between the Med and Small, trying both on with proper thickness shirt and sweater. Basically, you'll probably be happy with either. HOWEVER, I noticed something very strange. The first size I tried on was the medium. It was tight across the back, but not too tight. So I almost didn't even try on the small. But boy am I glad I did. The small has a more snug feeling overall, but it is actually looser across my back. I'll try to take some measurements of the coats (and of myself) to make sure one of the coats isn't just mislabelled, but it seems like the small allows me more room to move despite being a little snug.

I've been talking with David about this and I'd say he's been pretty spot on with helping people find their size. Sadly, it's not easy to acquire 2 and keep switching back and forth til one "calls" to you.

I'll update with more tonight or tomorrow, but I am 5'9.5", v frame (I workout biceps and chest/back mostly), 36-38 chest, 30 waist. If you are my height or shorter, get a small. If you are similar to my stats but either slimmer or an inch+ taller, a medium might be your best bet. Like Mantis state above, the length is not *that* important. So maybe the Med is for a slightly slimmer build and but it still probably won't look *too* long on someone who is a small in height?

http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/clothing/style-tips/how-to-measure-a-jacket Please use this for consistency. Also interested in what your chest/waist body measurement and weight is. I am probably a bit less slim than you (I wear 31-32 pants, my waist measurement at the body is 33"). Also I don't have a very defined V shape (a little more boxy but still V) in which case your findings would make the small make better sense. Is the difference in length noticeable? Thank you so much for doing this, can't wait to see what you post up and which coat you decide to keep. You are pretty close to me stats wise.

Btw, anyone know if there is any fabric to let out with this coat? If a small lacked a bit of room in the chest could it be tailored to be let out a little? Remeasured height, comes out at 5'9" exactly so small is looks like it'll be the better choice.

A BR rep (I forget which one) said you can't really let out a small, so go medium and have it taken in if you're not sure.

    Small
    chest ~21in
    waist ~18.5in
    shoulders ~18in
    length ~28.5in
    sleeve ~24.5in

    Med
    chest ~21in
    waist ~19in
    shoulders ~18in
    length ~29in
    sleeve ~25in

So, obviously not much difference. I measured various points across the back as well which is where it seems to vary most. The small does seem more tailored toward a v-frame. It is as wide (if not 1/4in wider) than the medium up top, but probably an inch smaller down at the waist. Now, I can only speak to my jacket, but as I said earlier. If you are a little slimmer in the shoulder and slightly taller with more of a box frame, maybe Med is for you. The jacket could probably be let out 1/4 to 1/2 inch, but it's definitely a better idea to size up if you're worried.

    Btw, I am a 32 (actual) waist but I usually wear a 30 and I'm around 160lbs.

Thanks Redsleigh, which are you going to keep? It seems like the medium measurements would fit me best as I have a more boxy frame (33" actual waist, 32" pants). I have a big butt and built legs, so perhaps sizing up would prevent the vent from gaping with the small. I really don't mind paying extra to get it taken in a bit if needs be. The shoulder was the main issue, surprised there's no difference but 18" shoulders are perfect for me.

Sleeves wise 24" on a suit jacket is just slightly above the base of my thumb so I think a 25" sleeve would look best on me - 24.5" would only be a half inch longer than my suit sleeve. Peacoats should reach closer to the knuckle. . The 29" overall length would be a little better than 28.5" I feel.

I'm a 33" actual waist. a 19" waist would give me a bit of extra room for layering. A little confused as you said that the small allows you more movement. Any ideas why? Would appreciate a few fit pics if you would indulge me! :))

    Guys,
Based on the sizes, I was torn between a Medium and Large but ordered a Large.
I'm 5'7, 70kg and normally wear a 40-42 chest size. 31" waist and 31-32" inside leg (depending on the rise of the trousers).

Suit wise, I tend to buy 40 Short and then left out the jacket a little.

Right now, I'm more like 40-41 in chest due to long term hand injuries that I'm hoping will be concluded by Feb.

Seeing the threads, some have said they are glad they went for a large and others that are glad they went with a medium! I'm in London UK so want to make sure I get the sizing right!

Do I swap for a Medium?? Has anyone in London got their coat that I can try? :))

Good point. Anyone in London have a small or a medium I could try on? That would put this to bed! 00-Shane. If you will - body measurements, coat measurements and more fit pics please!!

I'm 5'9, 38-39 chest, 30 waist. I work out a lot so I have some good lean body mass. More pics in the coming days.

I have similar measurements; 1.73m, 64kg, 30" waist but quite athletic. The S fits me perfectly, so i recommend you go for a medium.

MisterE, who said you should take a large????
  • Mister_EMister_E Posts: 7MI6 Agent
Mantis, no one, just went by the measurements on the forum.
Sleeve length and chest size meant I moved up a size but it sounds like they're not as close a fit as initially thought!

I'm rubbish at buying cloths online :(

Shall I contact Graham or customer services via the website?

I'm roughly the same height and weight as you with a 30 waist and 38S in suits and ordered the small. I'm pretty sure that the sleeves will be too long in a large.

I wear dress shirts for work with 34.5 sleeve length or 34 if I intend the cuffs to stop short of my wrist so I figured an extra inch in a winter coat would be ok but it sounds like I need to move to a medium

Coming on to this one a bit late, but does anyone personally have a large for sale? (42 chest, 6'2 210lb - I'll risk a large)

    Call me, maybe. -{

wow, that pics makes the coat look like it has a really nice sheen to it. Mine really doesnt do that when I photograph it but then again my lighting in my house sucks. I guess its a testament to how nice the material really is!
