My BR peacoat size small arrived today! It was ordered mid November and it arrived today on schedule. The shipping was via UPS; I live in the U.S.
Regarding the size,...keep in mind I'm a smurf...5'6" 34-36 chest. The small fits me fine, it doesn't look baggy, but it is relatively roomy for me...I like to wear my clothes with a slim tailored fit. Had BR offered an XS, it would have been perfect for me. The sleeve length hits just past my wrists when my arms are relaxed, and rides up to a perfect length when my hands are on the steering wheel. The hem hits just past my rear end. I'll probably have my tailor nip and tuck the peacoat a bit after this winter is over, but for now I'm very happy to wear it as is. Will probably also have him monogram the coat tag as I don't want this to get mixed up with somebody else's coat at the restaurant closets.
The leather is decidedly dark espresso brown with some lighter brown crackling...it looks virtually black when viewed in indoor lighting, and it looks dark brown in midday outdoor lighting...YMMV. I suspect the lighter color crackling will show more after the leather is broken in a bit more. Originally I was hoping that this would look more brown, but in retrospect, I quite like this virtually black color. Still don't know for certain if the SA version is black or brown, but in either case it is handsome.
This coat is toasty, event though it is unlined! I like that it is unlined...it keeps the coat simple and light. Keeps me plenty warm in this cold weather that we have been riding out. There is plenty of room for a scarf, and the outside flap pockets hold my gloves nicely.
My favorite part is the peak lapels...I own several peacoats, and none of them have this slim low-profile lapel. I love wearing these BR lapels flipped up because they are not too wide.
I intend to wear this coat in my daily life, it will grow old with me; I will not keep it as a pristine closet trophy. Someday, I will pass this on to my son, so that he can in turn pass it on to his son...
In summary, I love the coat. Thank you Billy Reid! and thank goodness for patience. -{
I'm quite glad I went with the med if you can fit a 34-36. I'm a 36-38. I'm def gonna have to get it tucked a bit in the chest, but I don't mind. I'm going to have my tailor add an inner pocket for my phone at the same time and a monogram would be a good idea too. Although the hem is only 1/2" longer than the small, I have suit jackets at 28.5" and 29" and it's obvious that the 29" covers my behind much better and drapes more nicely, so even for the extra bum coverage it's worth the hassle of taking the chest in.
Thanks Bro, sounds like a nightmare. Actually sounds a bit like the Lodge jacket. Did you get one?
Hey AA,
IN MY OPINION, the Barbour is even more fitted than the BR. My medium BR is fitted in a nice way. The medium Barbour is so fitted that it could almost be a shirt. I couldn't fit anything more than a thin shirt underneath it without feeling/looking bunched up. It would probably be better for the in-between, Fall/Spring weather.
The large has more of a screen accurate fit on me. It could stand to be a bit more slim through the waist, but that's just my opinion. Honestly, if I was in a pinch, I could have kept the XL and just had it taken in a bit. There's no "ego-sizing" with that product. If they say that it's a small, then it's a SMALL.
Noticed on the blu that Bond only buttons the MIDDLE button. Top and bottom both unbuttoned. How cold could it even be in Shanghai?
I never button the top or bottom button on any 3 (or more) button jacket. IMO, they look better that way.
After all of this time, I finally wore my BR peacoat out for the first time. It's not a particularly cold day, but I was very warm. The unlined interior is an interesting change from my other wool or cashmere coats. It feels like wearing a thick sweater and holds body-heat really well.
well, the middle button is the most functional out of all of them. Button any more and you are bracing yourself for a serious chill I would imagine. Also, dont forget he is wearing a shirt (with probably an undershirt) and a jumper as well as gloves. Bond is always toasty )
I've been a lurker for a long time. My two peacoats finally arrived, one medium and one small. I returned the small and kept the medium. I'm 5 9 42 inch chest 34 inch waist 175 pound atheletic. The medium fits me a bit tight in the shoulder but mostly fine.
Anyway the reason I'm posting is because I've decided to sell the medium because it's kind of too rough to my liking. I wore it two nights to the mesuem, not sure if I could still find the tag. The box is gone. But the coat is pretty much new condition. The price is $695 US only.
My peacoat finally arrived. It's amazing! I'm in love with it. Only slightly big and ok with a chunky sweater, gonna wear it until it moulds to me and then take it to Savile Row for them to do their magic. Wouldn't have been able to stand it any shorter though so med was def the right choice for me!
Hi, just ordered a the peacoat size small, would this fit me, as I am usually a 38" chest, because there have been a lot of conflicting views on this forum

Hi
I am 5-9, weigh 143 lbs 39.5 chest and 31 waist. Athletic build.......size small fits me treat and was the size recommended by the staff at BR. I originally changed the size to medium but then ran with their original suggestion...Glad I did.... Small is the one you need
Thanks, I was a bit worried because returning one to America from the UK after waiting months for it, would be very disappointing, so thanks for your help
Help me with a size please. I am 6'1 175lbs. I typically wear a 38r in suits. I figure a small may be too short in the sleeves or length. Medium or Large?

Medium. You may have to take it to the tailor to let the sleeves out a bit (I did), but the body will probably fit better.
New to this forum but I read this thread regarding this jacket. After much reading, I decided to order a Small. I'm 5'7, 38" chest, in the 160's but I hide my weight well (I am even). I would like to be able to wear a sweater underneath but I don't want any excess space. I know a Small is estimated as a 39" chest but I was wondering if I made the right choice. I guess now, since they are still allowing orders, returns may not be a problem. But thoughts anyone?
Thanks, there were too many conflicting posts. But I think the sense of urgency has passed since this is no longer a limited edition. I don't care if I have to wait till April as long as it constructed correctly and it fits.
Hi, I was hoping to get a couple measurements from the guys that have either a medium or a large in this coat. The shoulder seam to shoulder seam. The arm pit to arm pit. And the shoulder seam to sleeve opening. Thanks!

I posted measurements of my medium already but here they are again:
Chest (armpit seam to armpit seam) 20 inches
Now this was actually really hard to measure because of the cut. It kinda tapers out in a way and my peacoat has still been sitting in its box (Dont worry, that will change soon) so the chest may be off by a half inch or so.
The rest of these measurements are ACCURATE (Taken with tailors tape laying flat)
Sleeve Length (Shoulder seam down arm to end of cuff): 25 Inches
Back Length (Base of collar seam down back to end): 29 Inches
Shoulder seam to shoulder seam across back: 18 Inches
Got my xl today and will see if I can post measurements later. But if you want a more relaxed fit for thicker sweaters then do 1 or even 2 size up.
With a T-shirt on, I am 42.5 to 43 chest, 36 waist, 5'11 or so and not too athletic build. It is snug on me and I don't think I can wear a thick knit sweater like the pictures on the BR site...
It is a very nice jacket, less heavy than I thought though

Fantastic write up!

Does any UK member here know a decent tailor in and around London who I can trust with adjusting the coat to my size?? Really need some guidance here.
Alternatively, if anyone with a small wants to trade please PM me!
Thanks in advance!
they do a lot of costume .theatre work i think Chis still runs it with his son
Just curious, those who have the jacket, does your small tag say there is a silk lining. I know that the jacket is suppose to be unlined...
