Matt, do you think this tie is black or grey?

I think the check is light grey and black.

I find that the London (Q meeting) tie looks almost like blue and black Carbron Fibre, quite striking.

That's the bow tie from the auction, and it's different from the one in the film. My guess is that they didn't have a bow-tie from the film to auction but wanted a complete outfit so they used a ready to wear Tom Ford bow tie. I looked at the blu-ray and it's clearly satin, not faille. The shape of the bow tie is slightly different too.

If even they can't get SA ties what chance do we have! :))

If I can remember when I get home this evening I'll send you a screenshot of the bow tie. You can get a good look when he talks to Severine.

Thanks Matt, you have also confirmed I do have the correct tie. There's no way to tell if its skinny or regular width. Comes as a surprise because I bought it for the design and color, being potentially SA is a nice surprise.

Can you post a close up of your tie?

It's the same basketweave look as we saw in QoS. The horizontal ribs (a twill weave, since a tie is made on the bias) is only an illusion.

Note: the screen capture makes it look blue, maybe the refresh rate, maybe the temperature of the screen, might even be the blue (is it blue?) shirt used in that scene.

The tie discovered by other travel looks like the "reverse" of the screen-used Istanbul Tie.

    Skyfalli_zps04c56e4d.jpg

This has White horizontal stripes, with 4 Black Diamonds

    PTSTie_zps7dca25d3.jpg

The Istanbul Tie has Black horizontal lines with White diamonds.

I'm contacting my contact in Milan and here in London to get an update.

wouldnt it be the london chase since that one is blue/purple?
  • othertravelothertravel Posts: 438MI6 Agent
I don't see the resemblance between the 2 ties; can you clarify?
  • sruzgarsruzgar Welcome to ScotlandPosts: 1,468MI6 Agent
The PTS & London ties are exactly the same pattern just in different colours which makes them look completley different!

I really like that tie with the black and grey basketweave pattern.

I had a look online and found a cheap alternative which I just ordered. Will let everyone know what it's like when it arrives but for £18 worth a gamble on the quality. It does look like the grey will be too light compared to original.

They also have the same check pattern in blue (also £18).

I'm not sure anyone has answered this, thinking I'm asking them about the SA Skyfall ties, but....

...what is the width of a Tom Ford skinny tie (or at least the width he uses in Skyfall)? At least some people seem to have found and purchased Tom Ford ties of this width.

The skyfall ties are 3 inches wide.

There are definitely lots of variations of the Istanbul tie out there. It must be one of Tom Ford's main patterns. Today, I came across a few ties in my travels. A dark purple and black version of the Istnabul tie and a brown/bronze version of the tri-colored "meeting Q" tie. Although not screen accurate, they were both stunning ties. I might go back and pick them up anyway.

So ties arrived today from Soprano after ordering yesterday. Can't fault their service.

I ordered two ties, pics are attached.

The black and grey check is more black and silver but quality looks ok for the price. Doesn't really look like the TF tie above but to be expected I guess. The silver is much too light. I put a 20p coin on the check tie as the squares look larger than the TF so trying to give you a frame of reference.

Picked up the version of the blue London tie that I posted above; it's one of TFs 4' models, so I'm taking it to tiecrafters to get it narrowed.

Quick question: is it a possibility that the tie in the last scene is a 3-tone tie, similar to the 3-tone blue? I found a tie from the same season as the blue version that's he same weave, but with black, charcoal and gray.

And to drums point above, the bronze version of the 'Q' tie is pretty awesome in person. They also have a hideous green version of it.

That was my first thought. I'd be interested if you found one.

Harry Rosen in Canada. I've been checking with Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman, and they dont have any and havent received any of these. I find it sooo odd that there is this (apparent) selective process from TF.

Good finds OTravel, keep up the good work

Thanks bud. As I've said before, I'll offer up any extras to the forum.

I found 2 QOS-era ties from Harry Rosen that were old stock on clearance, and 2 more QOS-era ties from the TF outlet.

Harry Rosen has the 2-tone blue similar to the green party tie.
