Why is "Quantum Of Solace" considered disappointing?

It is actually an extension of Casino Royale. I watch them together as one long movie and enjoy it very much. I don't get all the negativity.

Nothing to add really except the terrible cheese factor of the Fields covered in Oil scene.

I always hated this scene. It was so tacky. Putting a scene like that in DAD or a similar anniversary type film I get but in QoS it just looked like they had run out if ideas.

I agree that such an obvious reference would have been better suited for an anniversary type.
However, one reason I enjoy QoS so much is subtle, maybe even unintentional, references to other Bond films

*Dr No - Camille telling Bond her backstory the same way that Honey Ryder did.

*Goldfinger- Bond girl out for revenge for killing family member. Bond accidentally spoils assassination attempt.
Miss Fields covered in oil on the bed is obvious reference to Goldfinger.

*YOLT- Camille drives up and saves Bond the same way Aki did at Osato Chemicals.

    *LALD- Boat chase / battle

*TSWLM- The way Bond sends a henchman off a roof similar to Roger swatting his tie away.
Bond & Girl walking across the desert in formal evening ware.

    * MR - Freefall sequence from airplane.

    * FYEO - Bond girl out for revenge. Similar to Goldfinger.
*AVTAK - The combination of horse racing and Bond running thru a mineshaft.

*TLD - The DC-3 with the cargo nets and supplies falling out the back reminded me of the Necros fight.
*LTK - Bond going rogue/out for revenge.

*TND - The dogfight reminded me of the PTS.
*TWINE - Bond throwing someone in a dumpster.
*DAD - Green's charity party similar to Graves' Icarus party.

Good observations. How about the fight in the lift. A more brutal version of DAF. And the use of the name Robert Sterling from TSWLM. Even some of Arnold's action theme sounds a bit like Barry's Kobe Dock chase/fight music from YOLT.

    I'm glad this film has some fans because of all the work and effort put in by everyone involved. Can't say it inspires me particularly (the plane chase must be the most shoe-horned in action sequence in any Bond film) but glad some people can find some entertainment from it. -{

QOS shares some similarities with LTK (Reception Wise)
1.On Her Majesties Secret Service 2.The Living Daylights 3.license To Kill 4.The Spy Who Loved Me 5.Goldfinger

Not just reception-wise, I'd say. I think it's what LTK might have been more like if Cubby hadn't restrained MGW at the time.

Quantum of Solace suffers in part from the slapdash editing and obsession of its arty director to do a short Bond film. But a bigger problem for me was that Casino Royale was a wonderfully balanced Bond film -- both character driven and with strong action sequences. That quality did not carry through to Quantum of Solace, whose emotional focus was far weaker and whose sense of character depth was more shallow. As a result, it just doesn't resonate as well, even though there are a few good sequences and the performances, in a spite of a muddled script, are just as good.

You mean that there was a chance that LTK would have gotten even worse? :)) :)) :))
