Dr No Movie Review

Dr No, is the first 'official' Bond movie to be released. Sean Connery is Bond, and plays the part down to a tee! This slowly introduces some of the elements that make a Bond movie, such as exotic locations, over the top bad guys, and "Bond, James Bond".

There are a few things that seem to be lacking though. The lack of cool gadgets stick out a mile, and the dragon on the island is very poor, I think this is beginning to age. Dr No, is a classic villian, but his henchmen, the Three Blind Mice, aren't to special, and definately forgettable.

Ursula Andress sets the standard for Bond girls, and the scene when she comes out of the sea is iconic.

Connery made the role his own, and played it with class, that I don't really think anyone has surpassed since.

Although this does set the blueprint for Bonds, I don't think it is quite there, it is worth a watch, but don't expect some of the over the top action of the later movies.

    I agree, but if you've read the novels, it's actually closer in tone than most other movies. For a first outing, it's still a helluva movie! -{
    Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

    I think it is because I watched this movie quite a while after some of the others. I think watching the later movies first , I have struggled to appreciate this one to the full.

    Things like the pre title sequence, and the great action sequences, and super gadgets of the later movies, are here, which is what I had come to expect.

    I have only read two Bond novels. Maybe need to read, Dr. No to appreciate this movie a little more.

    There is also a lack of title sequence like the others. I always look forward to those. With Dr. No, I fast forward the beginning credits.

    Yeah, that's a big minus for me too. But one thing I REALLY love about it is the absolutely realistic tone of the film until inside Dr. No's lair, then it gets all Bond-y. ;)

    The main bad thing about Dr.No is the over dramatic music in some scenes, like the music that plays when he smashes the tarantula with his shoe. The music made it seem like he was stabbing someone to death lol.

    I thought Barry was the composer for Doctor No

    He just arranged the music by Monty Norman, but when they found out he was THE MAN, they made him THE 007 composer for decades. -{

    I find DN quite cool, the very 60's feel and after I watched it I really wanted to go to Jamaica. I love the "jumper" song and "underneath the mango tree", i always find myself singing the latter.

    Small budget. The mice were in Fleming's book. Perfect cover.

    I just watched this last night and all I could think about was your comment. It's true. He also seemed the most frightened I had ever seen him after he kills the tarantula. He goes to the bathroom and looks like he was going to throw up.
