John Gardner 1993 Interview on Euro Disney NSF location?

I've also posted this question on CBn to no avail, so I thought that I would try my friends here on AJB as well:

Quoting CBn stalwart zencat in the 2003 "OO7 in Disneyland?" CBn thread:

You know, I could swear I read an interview with John Gardner where he talks about working with Disney on NSF. I can remember him saying he was a big fan (not surprising in that Gardner is an amateur magician, movie buff, theater buff, etc) and that he said Disney would only let him stage the climactic action/gunplay in a closed park (Gardner wanted to do it during operating hours). He also talked about being taken down into the huge tunnel system below the park. I don't know where I'm remembering all this from so I could be wrong. But this is sticking in my head.

Does anyone else remember reading this?"

My question is the same as zencat's: does anyone here remember reading this interview Gardner supposedly gave? Does anyone here have any interesting cuttings, articles, interviews by Gardner on Never Send Flowers. I'm currently researching this at the moment for a lengthy article - a lot of which is already written.

I vaguely remember reading this too...can't remember where from either...I'd say it's probably from a Fanzine, but I guess you have checked all the obvious ones...

No, not really. I don't have any copies of the fanzines or any detailed knowledge of their contents (excepting Bondage), thanks to a 2004 zencat article over on the CBn Main Page. Any clues at all as to which fanzine in particular you might have read this in...?

I'd try 007 Magazine first...maybe it was in an issue of Dave Worrall's Collecting Bond - or whatever it was called....good magazine in it's time though...

But it does seem familiar...especially the part about him being allowed/shown around the tunnel system...

Thanks for your confirmation of zencat's contention that Gardner spoke about the Euro Disney NSF location in an interview somewhere: I believe said interview does in fact exist and is not just some figment of zencart's imagination but that it is just a matter of finding out where it was published. I iontend to publish an article somewhere on NSF and Euro Disney location next year to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the novel's publication in July 1993. Perhaps writing to some of the publishers of these magazines will uncover the location of this article/interview. I did PM zencat back in 2009 about the location of the interview, but he said that he never did find out where it was.

If you have still got copies of these magazines/fanzines in question, I would really appreciate you taking the time to look through them and try to uncover this excellent-sounding Gardner source for the interesting experimental NSF Bond novel. :)

I'm sure the interview DID take place too...and I do have the magazines...just not access to them at present...have you tried contacting Mr Rye at 007 Magazine..?...I'm sure he would be a better bet...

Remember something similar, Silhouette, to what Zencat recalls.

I think JG DID get access to Euro Disney, before it opened(?), and used the research for the climax of NSF.

And has been pointed out, I'm pretty sure its in a 007 Mag interview that Zen's got it from.

Thanks David and Sir Miles - I will try to get in contact with Graham Rye at the JBIFC - does anyone have the current address, email and phione number for the club as it seems to have recently chaged address from the ones I've got on my files?

Thanks, Sir Miles! Will look into this - will get back to you via this thread if I find the article/interview in question. At least I know now for certain that it does exist! Three people surely can't be wrong. It sounds like the missing 'holy grail' for NSF fans and for those writing an article on the novel!

It does exist...I certainly remember the bit David Schofield brings up about JG getting a tour of the underground tunnels of EuroDisney before it opened...

My only contribution to this is that Michael Wilson, in an interview at the BFI Southbank after GE came out, said that in one Gardner book Bond talked about going to Disneyland, saying, oh I didn't think I'd like it but actually it was pretty good. Wilson dryly added that he wasn't sure they could do much (in terms of adapting Gardner's books) with dialogue like that.

Thanks for your contribution to the discussion, Mr Plural - I think that I've heard of this before, perhaps over on CBn.

Anyone else remember this Michael G. Wilson Interview in 1995 on Never Send Flowers? For instane, is there film footage of this? I'd really love to hear more on this as I'm doing a write-up on NSF at the moment! :)
