From Russia with Love Review

This movie set the standards for Bonds. We get the first pre title scene, we get the first awesome gadget from Q, the attache case, complete with tear gas cartridge and throwing knife, and we ge the first look at Blofeld, known here as number 1.

The VIllians are classic vintage Bond as well, Rosa Klebb with her poisonous knife in her shoe, and the chess expert Kronsteen. We begin to find out a little bit more about SPECTRE, and the story is beginning to develop on the SPECTRE arc.

The Bond girl, Tatiana Romanova, is breath taking. The actress playing her, Daniela Bianchi, was the runner up in Miss Universe in 1960.

So overall we get a lot of new parts to the Bond franchise that will continue for years to come.

Red Grant is a brilliant henchman for SPECTRE and plays the part excellently, he looks the part, and his continual stalking of Bond throughout the film helps to build the suspense, and the final battle with Bond on the train is another classic.

Connery has well and truely settled into the part now, and I think he looks like he is enjoying playing the part (who wouldn't).

The ending with Rosa Klebb, is a nice little sequence to finish on, and I think Rosa Klebb is truely evil.

I really enjoyed this movie, loads more than Dr. No, and I feel like this sets up the Bond franchise for years to come.

A classic Bond, done correctly and at its best.

    My favourite James Bond film, if I had to pick one. Totally delivers on the spirit and intent of Fleming's novel, even while switching the villains from SMERSH to SPECTRE.

    Excellent summary of the highpoints of an excellent Bond film. Goldfinger is still my favorite, but it's hard to argue that From Russia With Love is not Bond at his finest. -{

    Thanks, I am also a big fan of Goldfinger, I love these two, this period they were really getting it right, and the Spectre involvement really adds alot to the movies, and makes the continuation more enjoyable.
