In my view the only Classic Bonds are Dr No to OHMSS. After that changes were made, more humor, bigger stunts etc, along with the character of Bond himself changing. :)
    I'm forced to agree with you here, yet I find TLD & LTK much later yet kindred spirits of this list of yours. -{
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

Oh, I'm a big Dalton fan too -{ but with the lacklustre boxoffice of LTK
they went back to a safe formula. It wasn't untill CR and the reboot, that
they bit the bullet and made some big changes to get Bond back to what
Fleming ( I think ) had in mind. Luckily this time the public were ready for
a more serious Bond. I think the change of tone of LTK was too soon after
Sir Roger for many of the public to handle.

Define classic? Define vintage? Can you have a modern classic like Casino Royale? Can a classic Bond film also be of questionable quality like DAF ?

This is how I would divide the series:

Classic Bond: 1962-1974 Dr No thru TMWTGG

Modern Bond: 1977-2002 TSWLM thru DAD

Contemporary Bond: CR, QoS, SF ...
    My current 10 favorite:

    1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK

For the most part I would agree, but TLD & LTK are anomalies in this division, and I would extract them associate them with much earlier Bonds.

why do you say that? Dalton's Bond was very much a product of the late 80's.

    I disagree, TP.
The problem was the visibly lower budget and the poor acceptance of Dalton by the people.
Has nothing to do with that people where still starving for Moore.

Look at DC's success with a much more serious approach than in the Brosnan years.
It could have been similar with Dalton but he was the wrong man.

Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!

I beg to differ, my friend (as I have been known to do from time to time). The wrong time, perhaps, but not the wrong man.

The movies yes, but Dalton gave us a timeless Bond.

This... seriously over the decades he has ammased a following that will proudly proclaim the best Bond of the bunch and even many more that will at least say he is up there with Connery.

I'd say the times were just not good for Bond films in that they weren't as over the top as that crop of action films and it just had to compete for the dollars when it never really had to before. It was the action film basically... then you had the action boom and it wasn't the only quality gun in the fight anymore. Still very very good films.
