The Living Daylights?

Does anyone here besides me think The Living Daylights was one of the best bond movies? I loved Dalton I wish he would have been Bond for more movies.

I like TLD and do agree Dalton should have had more time in the role. He was a great Bond IMO. To me he had the Bond look and style.

The Living Daylights had some great bits of action in it. I always loved the car chase which they ended up crossing the border in the Cello case.

You're definitely not alone. I think it is a very good Bond film. The plot does get a little confused by the end, but I think it works nonetheless. Definitely well up in my top 10 Bonds.

TLD is energetic and fresh, but still traditional. It's one of the really good Bonds, but not one of the best.

If Koskov & Whittaker could have cooked up a more ambitious scheme than diamond smuggling it would have been one of the very best. As it is it's very good indeed.

    It's a great film, with one of the best PTS in any Bond. -{
I agree with all who would of liked to see Dalton do More, He was Good. :)

Apart from the great storyline, the locations, and Dalton himself being a great Bond, it has a great atmosphere to it. It has that element X of a great spy movie, it conveys danger, tension...Some Bond movies just have it, some don´t. This one does.

The PTS is up there in my top five hands down, and it´s, along with Connery´s, the best introduction of a new Bond ever.

    Yeah great film.

And the novelty - after the Moore years - of a James Bond who actually looked like James Bond!

Obviously, EON would not make THAT mistake again.... :))

It's a good film, but it's let down IMO by the 2 weak villains

I think it's one of the better Bond films and Dalton is terrific.

I never used to like it, but after re-watching it recently for the first time in many years, I now consider it one of my favourites. :) It feels like it is a proper spy movie, has fantastic action sequences and you couldn't have asked for much more for Dalton's introductory film. The PTS is magnificent. The main plot of the film is set up wonderfully. I adore the car chase ending with the ride in the cello case. There are some brilliant bits in Morocco. There are gadgets, but they don't ever seem like a cop-out. I really do love most of TLD.

I have a couple of problems though, the ending being one. It just never felt like the great big climax I wanted from the film. This is partly tied in with having terrible villains, my other problem. I enjoy the excitement of Bond's tussle with Necros, but Whitaker is such a poor character and I would like to have seen an all-out fight of some kind, or at least a decent demise for Koskov.
    Relax darling, I'm on top of the situation -{

It's actually become just about my favourite Bond of all time... the class & style of early Bond movies, the restrain with gadgets, the 'realistic' villains... and of course Dalton... it really had it all IMO.
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

He ended up in a bag... :))

Dalton's Bond would give a proper (or more than proper) dispatch to his next nemesis. :007)

The Living Daylights, alongside Dalton's other film, Licence to Kill, is undoubtedly one of my favourites; definitely within my top 5, and possibly within my top 3.

The only thing about it I don't like is that the villains aren't great. I thought Necros was a good henchman, but the two lead villains, Koskov and Whitaker, just weren't sinister or threatening at all. Thankfully, LtK solved that problem in the next film with Franz Sanchez - quite possibly my number one Bond villain.

I love this movie, so many good lines. One of my favourites is when Bond cuts the chasis of the police car away from the body with a laser. The girl says "What happened!?", Bonds turns to her and says "Salt corrosion".... Classic Bond lines...

I was so used to watching Connery, Brosnan and Moore growing up that I thought the other ones would be a huge disappointment. I was sooo wrong(Although I have not watched the one with Lazenby).

His (Lazenby) one isn't too bad, though as previously mentioned in other threads there is a lot of over-dubbing in some scenes, it has a good plotline though, well worth a watch. :)

If Sir Roger Moore would have pulled that out, the haters would still use that against him 20yrs later 8-)

Comes down to personal preference, in my top 10 Bond film's I have Moore in Man with the Golden Gun (probably the best of his 7). People don't like him because he has "terrible delivery of lines", they forget that he doesn't exactly get to choose his lines :#

    Nah.

Dalton says his lines like this with subtle insousiance.

Rog's raised eyebrow and wooden-go-on-applaud-routine was redolent of music hall theatre and 50s British light entertainment. Think Max Baygraves, Jimmy Tarbuck. And if yo don't know them, watch Bruce on STRICTLY.

No wonder we Brit kids with the Pistols, The Clash and The Jam behind us always thought Rog was an old fart JB.

I love both Dalton Movies... but for me, the Living Daylights was really let down by Kara... she was good looking, but SO pathetic... I mean I'm all for a Bond girl who has a vulnerable side, but she was ridiculous.

I much preferred Pam Bouvier in LTK... now she was a great Bond girl.

However, both of Dalton's movies are in my top 10... and I do think he was a great Bond - even if slightly more serious.

I agree about Kara. People always bang on about Stacey Sutton being bad, well what about Kara? A pretty useless bond girl for me....

So thinking about it, I actually think TLD is slightly overrated as it is let down by villains (apart from Necros), Kara, and much of the film to me is rather unmemorable.

I do like the film however though - just not as crazy about it as others here. It ranks just outside my top 10.

I agree, Lexi. Although I enjoyed TLD quite a bit, Kara was definitely the weak link for me.

Didn't she bop a couple of bad guys? She wasn't totally worthless... B-)
But it was amusing watching Bond get all frustrated trying to signal her to drive onto the plane. :))

Spy Who Loved Me is probably the first Bond I saw EVER, though I remember Golden Gun more clearly. I will never forget JB putting Jaws on the magnet, awesome, but major flaw being he should've left him connected to the magnet! :))
