Bond actors in real life

So what are the bond actors like in real life?

I have heard that Sean Connery and George Lazenby are both quite pompous and ungrateful. And that Moore, Brosnan, and Craig are quite the opposite, in that they are more grateful for their roles as bond. Dalton I've not heard much.

I must say, that from interviews I have seen, Moore seems the most down-to-earth.

What do others think / what have others heard?
1 - LALD, 2 - AVTAK, 3 - LTK, 4 - OP, 5 - NTTD, 6 - FYEO, 7 - SF, 8 - DN, 9 - DAF, 10 - TSWLM, 11 - OHMSS, 12 - TMWTGG, 13 - GE, 14 - MR, 15 - TLD, 16 - YOLT, 17 - GF, 18 - DAD, 19 - TWINE, 20 - SP, 21 - TND, 22 - FRWL, 23 - TB, 24 - CR, 25 - QOS

That rings true with what I've read/heard as well.

Neither Connery nor Lazenby strike me as the most likable men in the world. And yes, I do hold Connery's woman-slapping quote against him.

In the few interviews I've seen, Dalton comes across as rather reserved, but polite. Of all the Bond actors, he seemed to be the most knowledgeable of the character and said some interesting things about his approach to portraying 007. As a side note, Dalton is active in wildlife conservation, especially wolves, which always struck me as fitting somehow. Maybe because Dalton seems to have something of a lupine quality.

I'm a big fan of Craig as Bond, and he seems like a decent guy, but I wish he wasn't so foul-mouthed in interviews. I'm no prude or saint, but all the "effings" gets tedious.

I have quite a bit of admiration for Brosnan as a person. He's active in many of the same environmental, wildlife, and animal causes that I support. He also lives part time on Kauai, so he's sort of my neighbor one island removed. (I'm on Oahu.) Brosnan also seems to come off well in interviews, despite some bitterness regarding his 007 tenure.

As for Moore, he's not my favorite Bond by a long shot, but he seems like a real class act as a human being. He does great work for UNICEF. Moore and Brosnan are the two 007 actors I'd most want to have dinner with.

Im not so sure about Lazenby not being a socialble person, the guy always makes an effort to show up at Bond conventions to meet fans. Hell he's the only one that does that. You dont see the other Bond actors trying to socialize with fans at these conventions.

Maybe around the time of OHMSS he was a prick, but nowadays he seems very humble.

Dalton seems to be like Moore in that he has no problem having a little fun with his 'spy' past...

That's a valid point, and I give him credit for it. On the flip side, there was the rather tacky public feud he initiated with Pierce Brosnan.

You cant take what GL says seriously about the other Bonds. He openly criticizes every actor that played the role except for himself. I think he kind of believes he is James Bond and thats very cool and funny. Especially when he talks about his wild sex life and how he bedded every woman on the set of OHMSS! :)) :007)
And lets not forget PB deserved the wrath of GL by calling him out in the US version of GQ by saying he was a model who couldn't act. :D
TD did a nice send up of his 007 tenure in the Looney Toons Back in Action. I have 3 little ones so I have seen that film a number of times

I have heard from various interviews with different actors and directors that Connery is a stand up guy and was a total professinal when he was working as an actor. As for him being ungrateful about his most famous part, it does not seem to make sense since he participated in the 1999 documentary The James Bond Story and came back to lend both his voice and likeness to the video game of From Russia With Love. Also I heard that he personly telephoned Dana Broccoli after Cubby's death in 1996, to express his condolences.

It seems the best Bond actors (Connery, Lazenby , Craig) are the least nice people, and the worst (Moore, perhaps Brosnan?) are gentlemen and nice people. Dalton and perhaps Brosnan are somewhere in between?
Could it be that actors need to channel their inner arrogant bastard to play Bond well?

I think the only one who would be willing to give autographs or take photos with fans besides Lazenby would be Roger Moore and Peirce Brosnan. Connery is enjoying his retirement (although supposedly he might be in Expendables 3) so i doubt he would bother with fans at this point.

DC has also been very generous with fans. He lives a fairly low-key and quiet life and doesn't seem to pop-up at the usual parties and glamour events, but when he was on stage in New York the other year it seemed that he was graciously signing autographs for fans after the show practically every night of its run.
