Craig's suits - QOS vs Skyfall

Saw Quantum of Solace again last night...

...this much is clear to me, the producers did not know how to portray Craig as Bond.

This is strictly regarding his 'look' as Bond.
In Casino Royale we see Daniel mostly in informal attire and a tux, and we forgive the lack of suits because its the first Bond and so forth...

But in QOS he is in a suit from the get go (and something is amiss) ... and after all the Skyfall footage it is clear they've figured out how to best make Craig look good in a suit.

In QOS i feel that they've put Craig in Brosnan's suits. It's the same cut, style, etc...the problem was Craig is not Brosnan. Not only is this true physically but also from a personality standpoint, Craig is and never will be a conventionally 'refined' fellah. He exudes too much physical strength and harshness and in a Brosnan suit (was it still Brioni in QOS?) he looks clumsy and uncomfortable.

The scenes at MI6 where he is following M and her team around and when he arrives in Bolivia looking for his hotel show Craig painfully trying too hard to look like Brosnan (am I right or is this my imagination??)

Furthermore, in QOS Craig gets a 'shaggy' haircut that was suppose to be more classic like, yet the whole movie his hair is a mess, either limp or electrecuted. In addition it makes his nose in certain scenes looke huge.

The producers for Skyfall have gone to great lengths to change Craig's look, and while at first the Tom Ford and button down shirt look made my eyebrows raise, it's really a stroke of brilliance to have made these changes as they fit Criag best and make him more Bondlike despite the abscense of Brioni.
Likewise, the haircut is vastly improved making him look more sleek and refined than hippie.

Having said that, I thought the chase scene at the beginning of QOS done in suits was absolutely 'awsome'.

Any opinions?

I think the "Midnight / Navy" suit in QoS during the Greene / dessert sequence is the best he has looked in a suit!! Would love to have that suit (believe Mantis has this one)

I agree apart from the Skyfall hair cut which does Daniel no favours at all. Slightly longer( but way short of Hippie) he would look less Gollum like (it's the Ears)

I am amazed at our (including myself) ability to discuss this guys looks, his hair, his clothes...I think it's because he is such a departure from the standard ' Tall, Dark & Handsome' archetype. I have made my piece with that finally, but still would like to see him exude a little more class. There is nothing in his appearance that rules this out, and he is certainly a good enough actor to pull it off if he chooses to.

We'll know shortly how this plays out, I for one am optimistic and can't wait.

I tend to agree, but i think thats more or less because of a few reasons, like changing of costume designer, changing of clothing labels (brioni to tom ford), and Craigs and others input how how Bond should look. I think Craig's Bond has been the least consistent and most schizophrenic in his look film to film due to the above mentioned reasons, even though all Bond actors (except Laz of course) vary a little film to film, except the early Connery films due to them being filmed yearly. As for his look in Skyfall, even though his haircut shows off his very receded hairline, it suits him well.

Don't agree totally with the OP's post.

The suits in Casino Royale were Brioni and apart from the Tux, did not suit Craig very well, being a bit 'boxy' in appearance.

The QoS suits/shirts were Tom Ford and suited him better, being more tailored in cut.

The Skyfall suits/shirts are also Tom Ford, but have an even slimmer cut, looking too tight on Craig at times.

IMO, the QoS suits were the best on Craig so far, but I'm looking forward to Skyfall to see whether the suits look better in live action, than the stills and trailors that we have seen so far.

The suits themselves in QOS were among the best in the series, no doubt. It was the way Craig wore them that took away from their appeal.

Watching the film, it was like the producers tried really hard to make a 'standard' Bond film (though it had no moneypenny or q) with Craig, who wasn't quite ready for it.

As for the hair, its true that it spotlights his receding hair line yet its mountains improved over that shaggy look. It complements his head and his persona (more military like I guess).

Interestingly, I thought the tux in Casino Royale didn't convince while in QOS it did (could be because Bond 'happened' to walk into a formal affair, otherwise he wouldn't have worn one.) Again, its his persona.

Can't agree with the Op's post. I certainly don't see Craig trying to be like Brosnan or being dressed in Brosnan's suits. In CR there was the line that made reference to wearing the suit with disdain, so maybe there was purposely an element of this in his demeanour? Personally I think that he carries both the casual wear (polo, jeans, boots) and suits very well in both of his films to date. For me the QOS suits looked fantastic throughout and seemed to complement his build extremely well. I certainly don't see him as looking 'uncomfortable'. Whether this is the case with the tighter fitting Skyfall attire remains to be seen of course.

again, the odd thing is that the new suit style for Skyfall, (forgive me for saying this) I generally consider it 'girly' for my taste...QOS had wonderfull and masculine power suits...

...but on Craig the tight high rise suits somehow work! they make him look even more bada$$ somehow, more of a killer...more convincing.

Must admit that when I first saw the Skyfall suit, I wondered if he'd used Norman Wisdom's tailor.
