WHEN are YOU going to outgrow this "Bond" Thing???

chrisisallchrisisall Western Mass, USAPosts: 9,062MI6 Agent
My Dad used to like Bond movies, but now he's well into his eighties, and has little use for them. I suppose in somewhat the same way I have little use for teenage sex comedies, although I can still have a good laugh with one when one pops up.
But I liked Bond movies when I was too young to consider shagging a Bond Girl, I like them now that I am Bond's age in MR & NSNA, and I expect that when I am really old and decrypted, I shall enjoy them then as well.

So, when will YOU grow up & leave all this foolishness behind? ?:)

...I've actually thought about this before. When? I guess when women are no longer interesting to me, when i stop enjoying a good cigar with a good glass of Hobglobin, when I get tired of poker, when I'm done with cognac and red wine, when women become boring, when wearing a fine bespoke suit becomes a drag, when minidresses and miniskirts make me yawn...so, never :D

I was mad keen on Bond up to 1984 after which my interest lapsed a bit. I was a stroppy teen & thought Bond a bit passe, but then the recasting & subsequent release of THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS rekindled my interest.

The early '90s saw me watching Bond less frequently on video & telly, but the release of GOLDENEYE once more piqued my interest & I've remained keen as mustard ever since. In fact, I'm probably more invigorated over the release of SKYFALL than I've ever been.

I agree, I got into Bond as kid around 11 or 12.
So it's been a big part of my life, ( I've just turned 48 )
I might complain about the films from time to time, when I
think they've messed up, But I doubt I'll ever Outgrow them. :D

For me a lot depends on Skyfall. If Bond is just 100% pure badass, running through walls and an invincible killing machine then I'll probably leave it alone, as I find that dull.Bond must be more than that and for me so far the jury is out.

Tricky one this. For the complainers among us, a bad film can wed us more fully than a good one, which is not a good personality trait I admit. So if you're the sort of person who leaves lengthy rants rather than leave well alone, there's no getting away from it.

Of course, if you still like the old movies then there's no reason to go off Bond, but you could argue the recent films have no relation if you don't actually like them, but they give the impression the Bond of yore is still going. For some of us they bear as much relation as the modern Christmas does to your Christmases as a kid, but it's easy to forget that.

I have been a Bond fan since 1973 and will always remain a fan of the films from Doctor No to Casino Royale, whatever the future brings.

There were certain scenes of graphic and/or tasteless nature that disturbed me in Quantum of Solace. Such as the killing of Slate, Bond dumping Mathis' body in a skip, and the attempted rape scene. If more of this sort of thing occurs on a regular basis then I would have to seriously consider whether to carry on watching. Fortunately, it looks like Skyfall is a return to classic Bond, so hopefully there will be nothing to disturb me.

I wasn't a Bond fan until about 2005, so who knows? My guess is the old films and books will allways interest me, but if the new movies becomes just another action movie I might stop taking an interest in them.

    Never never never!

Bond is with me at all times. I introduce myself surname first, I wear suits and I also love nice hotels and restaurants. I am also a bit of an action man in that I gym hard, like watersports and keep fit. I live in Central London not far from the King's Road and I have a string of romantic liaisons. The one love of my life didn't die on our wedding day but we are no longer together and I think of them often.

The Bond films will always be a part of me. My friends know that, my family knows that...and oddly enough so do I.

To an extent I already have ...

I don't watch Bond films anywhere near as frequently as I used to. A long time ago, I read every single Fleming novel in order and found them intriguing. It got to the stage where I could memorise lines from the novels! But lately, being in law school has dampened my enthusiasm for reading any more than I absolutely have to, and my "spare time" has all but disappeared.

...I actually found Mayday's back on that scene to be rather attractive, rather...silky... :D

For me, heaven would be any scene with Honey Rider in a bikini.
And hell would be the DAD parasailing scene followed by the Moonraker space laser battle, alternating between the 2 forever lol.

To further elaborate my earlier post - I have 'cooled down' on bond many times in my life, in which months, or maybe even a year, would pass where I'm not bothered about watching any of my DVD's. But then I get obsessed again in 'phases'. I am like this with everything though - not just bond, but my other favourite films, TV shows, music, games, etc etc.

I am definitely in the bond zone at the moment. I've recently re-watched all the films, and Skyfall is coming soon, so that will feed my obsession.

So in short, bond will always be with me.... even if I'm not in 'the bond zone', bond is still there to always come back to whenever I feel like it.

Bond is still on my mind, practically on a daily basis ...as part of my routine Internet surfing, some books I read casually (I have Syd Cain's "Not Forgetting James Bond" on my bedside, etc. etc. However, can you believe it that I haven's watched a Bond movie in all of 2012, and maybe for more than a year? Of course, my Bond movie dry spell will be broken by Skyfall in a few weeks, but my lack of Bond movie viewing is a sign of just not having enough time in any given week to do so.
