@ Clarky, I hope you do accept my apologies of my harsh comment earlier I'm sometimes "Shoot first, ask later"-type of chap
No hard feelings. I'm one of those guys that postulates expecting an open discussion and probable disagreement all in the name of finding the facts in the matter. I have never had problems with disagreement, but disagreement with mutual respect. Ultimately, we're all here for the same reason, to solve the little mysteries that make up this hobby.
I take it my apologies is accepted 8-) Agreed, most of us members are here for the very same reason, to get the facts straight :007)
This thread just died did the knife ever become available?

Nope, but the original was a Bob Loveless design which was copied by Ed's contact as production only had one. This is the screenused hero. Although there were a few made including rubber stunts and bladeless body mount versions. I can't find any evidence that they ever used the Loveless original as it has a clear oval stamp that would show up on screen...
Sorry for the blurry picture as it is cropped from a much larger image.
You can still find Loveless knives in this pattern with buffalo horn and damascus blade with brass bolsters. It's a very famous blade shape and the bolsters are distinctive to Bob loveless. the design has been copied many times in the past and is referred to as the 'Loveless design'. But they are loads of money if you are looking for an original.

Thanks very much for this surprised there weren't copyright issues in copying the knife

Well, it wasn't copied for commercial gain or offered for sale for profit, so no problem. Production copied Motorola police radios, Aston Martins, Walthers etc. They don't need permission to make those. Fake Walthers are used in every film.
It's also a nightmare copyrighting knife design, as long as the original makers logo's aren't replicated, it's OK.
Thanks. The Loveless knives look fantastic but crazy prices. I read that he started making knives after he wanted to buy a Randall but didn't want to wait the 9 months.
I've got a couple of Randalls the waiting list now is 5 or 6 years. The first one I got was a Smithsonian Bowie customized with stag handle brass etc( completely impractical but cool to look at and I'd wanted a Bowie since I was a kid)
I then ordered 2 Arkansas toothpicks 6"" and 12 " with Mexican ironwood handles. But when I checked with customs I found they were now prohibited as daggers . So Randall allowed me to swap to an all purpose fighting knife with stag handle ( no additional waiting list thank goodness). Not sure why some prohibited and some not .
