So what angle is next?

Was thinking today while doing the pots (Mrs MG gots me workin' hard) about DC and his take on the whole Bond character.....

Connery did the original smooth but deadly Bond
Lazenby did the 'bugger, shes dead' emotional Bond
Moore did the comical slidewhistle 'ah shore am boay' Bond
Dalton did the 'yes i got the message' straight talking hard arsed Fleming Bond
Brosnan did the cheesy 'christmas comes once a year' Bond
And Craid is doing the reboot start from scratch Bond

So what's next after DC?

Whoever takes the role on will have to find some new angle at playing the character, but surely most of the usable angles have been done. If a selection of the previous methods are used then the character could start to loose the originality that each different actor has brought to the table, so could the lack of new angles mean the ultimate demise of our favourite British spy?

Discuss and fight over who's right for the next 10 pages or more.

It could also be argued that craig is the emotional bond, what with the whole vesper scene

Well I'd say DC has taken something from each of his predecessors and mixed it up a bit.

But if whoever is next does that, will there be any noticeable difference between actors?

Bringing it back to the topic-
(Clock your guns now Moore haters) But I would like to see another light-hearted Bond film.

Brosnan was as close to Moore as you're ever gonna get.

I think they'll stick to the Craig Bond for a bit even after he's gone.

All Bonds have been Bonds of their time, in my opinion. I would expect that the next actor will probably be more or less in the Craig vein, but eventually the tide always seems to pull toward 'light'...and then a course correction takes place. This gentle ebb and flow lasts for a few films each cycle (though the Dalton era was of course prematurely shortened).

The next Bond will be dictated by whats in vogue at the time. Lets face it the character of Bond in the reboot was dictated by Bourne. The days of Bond being a leader ended after the sixties.

From the seventies and RMs tenure Bond shopped being a creator of movie trends and became a follower.

LALD was influence by the blackploitation movies such as Shaft.
TMWTGG had the Kung Fu sequence because Bruce Lee etc. was big at the time.
MR was Bond's answer to Star Wars
LALD was an extended version of Miami Vice without the pastels and the humour.

If by the time DC ends his run light hearted action heroes are big at the cimema again we will have another RM.

We will need a director with a bold and original (yet traditional in some respects) vision and the OK to see it through.

Bodie's absolutely right. It's the trends in cinema which dictate what comes next. The advent of Jason Bourne, Jack Bauer & more circumspect superheroes dictated CASINO ROYALE's outcome, no matter that it was already chosen to be the next film. If the trend moves towards more light-hearted fare, EON will follow.
