Globetrotter Skyfall Case

Hi all,

Been a lurker here for a long while and really love the site.

Just seen this when last in London. A wee bit out of my league at £5000 :(

don't do it donk, DON'T DO IT!!!

after seeing some trailers etc, it actually comes apparent that patrice's briefcase rifle isn't even a blank firer. pretty poor going in my book, nothing beats the wankblaster in DAD.

It's actually nothing new for Jim Bond, a folding rifle. Back in 1997 for the Tomorrow Never Dies pre-titles sequence Brozza found himself with a custom sub machine gun. Anyone ever wonder where he got it from? Simple answer is it folds down into the size of a cigar humidor which he takes from inside his leather combat jacket & unfolds it in a matter of seconds. The scene was filmed with three different weapons to achieve the reveal & firing effect but did not make the final cut & looked a damn sight more believable than Patrice's Globe-Trotter Megatranny :D

Danjaq_off, nice illustrations, no wonder that thing buggered the inside of Brozza's jacket on set at Frogmore :D

If you scroll down on the page from the link, they are available separately. Not cheap, but not outrageous either for good quality men's leather items.

you'll regain my admiration (which i'm sure means more than anything to you) if you can tell us all what its based on.

ps, personally, this mystery rifle patrice is using looks a bit cack, and i was a bit disappointed when i learnt its not actually a working prop.

That is precisely what it is, a British made 5.56mm Sterling AR180 Sporter Carbine, the civilian version of the Costa Mesa manufactured AR18 Armalite (nice Bond link) however I think he may be referring to the Globe-Trotter based folding rifle from Skyfall?

    he is. :))

i'd love to see this missing footage of brossa's folding AR-180, don't think i've seen it before.

as for the SF mystery rifle, interest is dwindling as its not what id deem a 'working' prop, but itd fulfill a curiousity to find out what it looked like.

Actually that's not far wrong.... :-)

When people see this in action... very clever and an amazingly engineered prop. More than reminiscent of another famous disguised weapon prop that did not 'work' in the firearms sense either but still seems fairly popular.

Closest to the Globetrotter gun would be the Utah Carter (UC-M21) folding gun seen in RoboCop 2. Folded...it looks like a small radio but, like Optimus Prime, "Transforms" into a leathal weapon.

We were alluding to something from the Bond movie universe...

There are a great number of homage elements running through Skyfall that harken back or allude to previous Bond outings. Not copies or cameos per say, more a shared DNA. Some very subtle, some more obvious. I think all us fans will enjoy spotting and identifying them!

An assassin with a signature weapon that can be disguised as a real world object/obects designed to allow its user to pass anonymously for example.... hmm now where have we seen that before in the 007 universe?

Like its predecessor this piece is 100% created for the film and has no elements of an existing real world firearm. Its a prop designed for a specific onscreen purpose and plot device, one of the best kinds of prop INMHO.

And you are not wrong, really, really complicated to replicate though... :(

    Seriously though guys, granted the Globe-Trotter "whatever" is a clever bit of kit but the Glock 17 based Magpul FMG-9 9mm would have equally fitted the bill & would perhaps be slightly more believable for Bond's 50th Anniversary outing with the outward appearance of a radio cassette or laptop. It's inspiration being the Russian Makarov PP-90 folding weapon which even came equipped with a dummy aerial to complete the illusion of a consumer product. -{
