I keep forgetting to put up a story that happened in late November. I was looking for ages for a good quality pea coat and found this one in John Lewis http://www.johnlewis.com/336623/Product.aspx
I went in and tried it on and the fit was excellent, it's 100% wool and fully lined and of really good quality. They only had one left in my size and it had no price label on. I saw the price on the medium and it was the same price as you can see on the website £225, but I thought that its of such a good fit and quality that I should go ahead and get it.
So I went up to the Lady at the till and she couldn't find the price tag so she went off to find the price. About five minutes later she came back and tapped in a code and said "ok that will be £35 please" I couldn't believe it, I have never whipped out my credit card or got out of a store so fast in all my life. I went in with my other half a week later and got her to ask if they had been reduced and she was told that it won't be reduced in the sales and hasn't been because they are selling out so quickly.
Besides my stroke of luck I highly recommend this pea coat, I know it doesn't have the two bottom pockets but its such a warm coat and a great fit that it has replaced my Schott Pea Coat.

That is very elegant and will always be stylish, you are indeed a lucky man!
I much prefer it to the BR and I believe Bond would too, made in England to boot!
I got a size Medium. I'm 5'10" and 163lbs. Jacket is a slim fit, but not tight. I normally wear medium in this brand and others (Zara, All Saints, Paul Smith, etc).
Maybe a shade darker in real life since there's a bright yellow light shining on the jacket in my picture. To me, in my pic, the shade is more olive... in person its more like the picture online. Then again this is all computer monitor dependent too.

...maybe it's just me, but this story is disturbing. You took advantage of the woman's BIG mistake. I'd be too guilty to go through with what you did, but on top of that, you went back, and instead of doing it yourself, you sent your wife to ask about the price because you knew that you were wrong.
The peacoat's ok though. It's a dime-a-dozen design, but if it fits well, you'll be in business.
Found this on another site for our American cousins. Though some of the "official" items appear to be incorrect...
The personal trainer and Iron Gym are hilarious additions.
Slightly off topic, but the Iron Gym is a great fitness tool. Combine it with some good resistance bands, dumbbells, or kettlebells and you can do one heck of a workout at home. It's also ideal for those following a "grease the groove" protocol to improve their pull-ups.

I'm struggling to find a laced up brogue boot long toed in that colour that isn't more than £100 - is that achievable? Has anyone here got any links to ones they have bought similar?

For anyone that purchased the aforementioned JCP Stafford boots, I'd recommend following Dappered's Brown Stafford Boots + Black Shoe Creme instructions for a more SA look.

It's just you, JL expect to make a profit of over £600m pounds for 2012, I'm sure they'll be OK.
As for the cashier, she was probably authorised to use a price bar code to sell this unlabeled item off, happens all the time in retail.

Bit harsh vinnymac-it may not have been a mistake after all, and if it's anything like my experiences working in retail, if the cashier makes a mistake, it's their own fault. I wrongly sold 3 items at 1.50 pounds each once, when they should have been 3 pounds each. I admitted I was wrong, and the money we were down, I took it from my own pocket to cover my company's loss. Now if Martin Aston deliberately misled John Lewis staff into selling it to him cheaper, I could see your point, but he didn't. The pea coat wouldn't have been for me, but if he already wanted to buy it (which he did), well getting it for only 35 quid makes it even more of a good buy for MA!

Uniqlo has an excellent Chesterfield at just $100 that hits the major details (length, color, slim fit) and looks the part with the bottom two buttons done. Only catch is that they do S, M, L, etc. sizing so you have to be exactly what their definition of S, M and L are for a tailored fit - lest you want to get it tailored, etc.
Any black leather gloves should do for the Dent style gloves, right? No one will be able to tell the difference on how the wrist, etc. looks if it's under your coat.
Solid pinstripe suit hard at $200 flat, but sure you could try a Baron Boutique (not sure if they do this one yet?) or similar service. Probably going to be a bit of a compromise on fit / quality / screen-accurate look / etc. at $200 (going up to $350 would at least open up the Jos. A. Bank / Men's Warehouse possibilities, right?).

I've seen quite a few very similar pairs in TK Maxx recently, about £65 or so a pair - worth a look in if you are near one...
And I think H&M have been selling some (imitation leather, admittedly) brogue boots... Although I can't see them on their website anymore, maybe in store though...

Many thanks for that! I have actually seen them and they're reduced down to £40. I didn't like the style and the one that did take my fancy, didn't have my size.
For all those searching for a cheap lodge boot alternative......Found an AMAZINGGG pair of Brogue boots, almost identical to the crocket pair, same colour and exceptionally quality leather. only difference is minimal, slightly and i mean slight difference on the top of the boot where the holes pattern doesn't go straight up but tapers around the rim of the top of the boot. I am in Italy at the moment, it was a local store, great fit, good italian leather and workmanship and only 150 euros so about 120 pounds! Going to probably get a pair on Monday. If anyone interested let me know before Monday and I will get you a pair!
Skyfall Tom Ford tuxedo budget alternative by G. Alexander. Contact Cliff at (772) 468-0799 or CPearl@CarditaFormalWear.com and let him know James from Boston with the Midnight Blue Maxwell tuxedo referred you. He will take care of you.
don't worry nouniard...serves me right too for not reading the negative feedbacks they had, keep telling me they will get back to me with shipping info...never happens. they got a few days then im going to lodge an ebay/payapl request for refund!

Very nice alternative! What size did you get (also, what are your measurements [height, weight, etc.])?
Even more than "some", half of them...
