Just bought a merino blend sweater from Banana Republic on Black Friday. Very close to the n peal lodge sweater. $35 on their sale.

Not a Black Friday deal but my wife bought me a Barbour Beaufort classic. I have a tokito but the xxl is just too tight on my 46inch chest. I know it is supposed to be fitted and I can wear mine if I am out for a hike (or being chased by badguys around my family home) but for normal day to day wear, I will choose the classic barbour every time.

Looks like a great alternative Crwilsn. I recently bought a similar £6 jumper from Primark, but it's made of acrylic, not nearly as nice as a wool blend!

For anyone who's on a tight budget and wants the coat of arms cufflink look, I would recommend these from TheTieBar.

Of course, not exact. But if you're tight on cash, you can never go wrong with anything from TheTieBar.

I just ordered this Charles Tyrwhitt suit as a budget alternative to the Tom Ford Istanbul suit. I didn't really need another suit in my closet, but I've been looking for one to wear with my Magnoli Istanbul tie. I used a discount code to get the suit for 217.47 pounds after shipping. I'm a big fan of CT's shirts, but I've never tried one of their suits before. I'll try to post a review and pics when it arrives

Real close to pulling the trigger on this as well. Can't wait to hear how it is.

The suit arrived in the mail today. Overall, I’m very happy with it. The fit is nice and slim, without being overly tight or restrictive. It has a great taper to the waist. The pants also run trim down the leg, but not skinny-jean level. The wool feels nice and lightweight, with that beautiful sharkskin texture. I love how the intricate weave of the material gives the cloth so much depth, versus the flatness of a plain grey suit. Even though the suit has been folded up in a box for a week and a half, there were barely any wrinkles in it. The button stance is slightly lower than some of my other suits, which I appreciate since it creates a deeper v-shape of the shirt and tie, which provides a much more flattering silhouette.

The jacket details listed on the Charles Tyrwhitt website seem to indicate that the suit is half-canvassed with a “floating canvas chest piece”. I’m not too experienced in testing the level of canvassing in a jacket, but I tried doing the “pinch test” on the jacket, and it does seem to have a piece of canvas contained inside. There definitely is more heft to it than my lower quality, fused suits. Based on my own amateur testing, I’m inclined to believe that it is half-canvassed, although I’m far from an expert on these matters.

It is also worth noting that the sleeves have “surgeon’s cuffs” with working buttonholes. It is a neat little feature, however, this also means it is very difficult to alter the sleeve length. From my understanding, a tailor would have to detach the sleeve from the body and alter it from the sleevehead, which is a very complicated and expensive alteration. Unfortunately, the sleeves are about a half-inch too long on me, as they just cover my shirt sleeve and don’t allow cuff to show. I’m a little disappointed about this, but I can live with it. However, potential buyers should be aware of this issue that could arise from the surgeon’s cuffs.

Since my main motivation for purchasing this suit was its similarity to the Skyfall Istanbul suit, I should probably note the major differences between it and the screen-worn suit:

    • The CT suit has a 2-button front, whereas the Tom Ford had 3 buttons
    • Double-vents on the CT jacket, vs. a single vent on the Tom Ford
    • 4 buttons on the sleeves, instead of 3 on Craig’s
    • The Tyrwhitt suit lacks the pick-stitching detail that was present on the movie suit

Fortunately, even though the Tyrwhitt suit has different details from the original Tom Ford, its design is much more in line with my personal taste. I much prefer a double-vented jacket, and was very disappointed that Bond’s suits in Skyfall had a single vent.

Overall, I’m very happy with my purchase. I think this is a great budget alternative to the $5,000 Tom Ford. It still has a nice slim fit and that beautiful sharkskin fabric. I can’t wait to wear it with a crisp white dress shirt, my Magnoli Istanbul tie, and Tom Ford “Marko” sunglasses. I highly recommend this suit for any Bond fan on a budget.

I don’t have any fit pics right now, since I just dropped the suit off at the tailor for some minor alterations (taking the jacket in a touch, as well as the waist & seat on the pants). But in the meantime, here are some pictures of it on the hanger.

I already got two Billy Reid peacoats, but I wouldn't wear them in bad weather conditions so I'm now looking for a frugal option.

I need help identifying this peacoat. H&M is the manufacturer but I don't know which season it's from. It looks like the well-known Skyfall alternative, but I'm not sure if the one from Skyfall has more than six buttons. In the picture below seven is visible (likely has a total of eight).

H&M and GAP arguably had some of the best cheap alternatives to the BR. Which one do you think would come up on top if they were put to a contest? Considerably less polyester in the GAP option so I guess it would be less stiff.
