God damn mini geff you are a prop god and to make 4 in 6 hours. That base is kick ass love the way you incorprated the bond 50 emblem and that yellow perspex. The plywood base is so simple but yet so effective. Did you laser engrave them plates yourself? Just a suggestion i would of put a layer of ally over the base and some bolts plugged into it resembling the inside of a submarine.
Thank you CJ. I did think about attaching the Perspex on the base with cap screws, to give an industrial feel, but I thought you don't use machine screws etc on wood ) so stuck with brass tacks. The plaque I did engrave myself, very fortunate to have access to a laser, although it costs.
The setting up of machines etc takes more time than making the item with a project like this. I estimate I could make around 40 - 45 of these a week if I had the time )
The idea with this project was to do it quickly, cheaply and simply.
Glad you noticed the gunbarrel thought it was a cheeky touch. The base materials were all offcuts. I might varnish the base but quite like the bare wood look.
I like your idea of the aluminium base, but I didn't want to over do things, and with doing the plastic and plaque artwork I found I was spending as much time on the base as I was on the prop!
Although I've stated it took 6hrs, that's a total time. It took a week to make, but I was doing a bit here and a bit there when and as I could. I also left the filler overnight to set as well, but if you wanted or had to, there's no reason why you couldn't make this in a day.

Ps, it's nice of you to say, but I'm no 'prop god'. I'm simply a machine monkey with a bit of experience.
Thanks for all the kind words and support guys, but I can't help feel a bit guilty for hijacking Andy's thread.
Not wanting to dampen anyone's enthusiasm for my stuff, but maybe we should steer our attentions back to Andy and his attempts at making this prop, and help him to achieve what he originally set out to do?
Hey Jeff don't feel bad, I think it would be great if this extended out to other props with other artisans helping or teaching different techniques to achieve various props. For example your hemisphere, I would never have thought to do it that way as my aim was to learn some casting techniques, over which you've been really helpful BTW, others may wish to follow your lead which achieves the aim of adding to props in ones collection {[]
Are you going to gives us your NON SPOILER thougts on Sataurdays screening or are you waiting until after the weekend, when ALL self respecting fans will have seen it? I am going to do a Premiere report, should I wait until after the weekend?
As far as a display is concerned, I'm thing along the lines of the claw housing on the bomb sled in polished ally.
Funnily enough I had a similar sort of thought and was thinking of using a canabalised Power Flare that some have used for their GE Mine circuits. You can get them in various colours and being semi programmable would make a cool radiation alarm set into the base along with the HP Jornada and custom screen which I've already done, on a stand alongside.

Yeah...and if his Mrs finds out how he got so 'experienced' she will help him have two more black (plutonium) balls in about 3 minutes flat )
