There was a screening for the press/media at London's Odeon Leicester Square this evening. The initial response to the film on twitter has been very positive. As I understand, there is no embargo so the first reviews will be in the media and online in the coming hours. If you come across one then post it here.

I'm seeing a lot of "Best Bond Ever" type comments from reviewers. Is this common in Bond films when they get released or is this legit?

Sure hope this movie lives up to the hype! Christmas comes for me on Nov 9th this year.

Here's a review from IGN. I haven't read it besides the rating and the short verdict, so I don't know how many spoilers it contains. Regardless, stay away if you care about spoilers.

This isn't really a spoiler, but according to the reviewer Mendes has "made the best Bond film yet". Apparently Bardem and Craig are both great, and that the cinematography is "gorgeous" (good to know Deakins magic works with Bond as well). And for those who are weary of following the link, they gave it a 9 out of 10.

Wow, that's a really well-written review, which to me does not have the most revealing spoilers so far, FYI. (Though, it certainly does have some).

I'm really getting pumped for Skyfall. DC has said in several interviews that, with Skyfall, they were trying to make something that would enter into the "classics" in the franchise. I know that any actor promoting any film is obligated to support it, but I'm feeling like comparing his statement to the above reviews, it may just be possible that the crew found greatness when they went out for it. Sometimes it really does work that way...

Now if only the next few weeks will hurry up and come and go.

After two deadly serious outings for Daniel Craig's 007 (one good, one bad), director Sam Mendes has brought some fun and tradition back to the venerable franchise.

The tone is so different to 'Quantum of Solace' that it almost feels like a reboot of the franchise, one that ironically has the confidence to celebrate all that is best about the British icon.

It's just refreshing to have a laugh with Bond again.

Rotten Tomatoes has 3 reviews up. All very positive. I am now going on a Skyfall blackout!! Still have to wait until 19th November in Australia until it releases.

On a side note: For any Australians there are previews Monday 19th at most cinemas, ticket price includes a Coke Zero Zero Seven. I'm definitely hitting up that deal as it saves 3 days! 8-) 8-)

An article from the Mail Online comments on the first press reviews of Skyfall. If these first reviews are reliable then Skyfall looks like being a match for Casino Royale, may even surpass it as one of the best.

Must say the press are raving about it. Quantum had mediocre reviews if im not mistaken hence I think its safe to say this is going to be a cracker

But I think QOS had very mixed reviews and it split opinion
between fans and casual movie goers alike.
Skyfall seems to be going back to many elements we've come
to expect from a Bond film, while still trying out some new
ideas for Bond.
Each new trailer or TV spot just seem to be getting better. I
can't wait.

I have been following the production of Skyfall about as close as anyone could do who was not actually involved in it. Knowing what I know now, I can say with real confidence that Skyfall will be a considerable improvement on Quantum of Solace. Whether it is as good as Casino Royale (or even better) is another matter. Not long to wait now.

Sorry was trying to stir up a Quantum debate just happily observing that this time (unlike QoS) it seems the critics are pretty unanimous in their reviews hence it seems that Skyfall is a great Bond film!! Cannot wait!

Thank goodness. I've waited more than 30 years for a truly great Bond film to come out and couldn't understand why they kept making one mediocre, sleepwalking Bond movie after another -- entertaining but lacking the wit and polish of the original series. Casino Royale was the best attempt in years, but it was a Bond film in nascent form. Now, finally, after all this time it seems that the creative people have invested in doing justice to what I think is the greatest film series of all. I just wish it hadn't taken this long.
