Does anyone know if this model can be dismantled and the components stored in the stock, or does the gas mechanism take up the space?

Take a look at this site, Japanese, but you'll get the drift. This flavour of AR7 used air cartridges as opposed to an onboard air reservoir or spring loaded. The answer is yes it all stows in the butt. Best of luck I've been looking for years for one.

Ah, thanks for that but the link shows the blowback/cartridge version, the gas version has a much thicker barrel, I'm struggling to find any details about it.
