It's probably just remaining stock from cancelled/failed orders but the Bulldogs are back on the website at £50!
But the item description says its out of stock and new supply is expected in feb
Me as well, waiting for payday and was in Harrods on Nov. 1st expecting to find one , sold out of course . The shop assistant told me they would be indeed back in stock in another 16 weeks . Tried many shops while visiting the UK , all seem to have gone on ebay indeed ... lest hope Royal Doulton will still sell them at GBP 50.00 in 2013 ....
The RD website still says they are out of stock. I called the customer service phone number today, and they told me that the main warehouse was out but that they would get a new supply in February- but did not say if it was the stamped, signed edition or mot. But they gave me the numbers of several of their outlet stores in the USA, and the first one I called had one left! Paid for it then on the phone and they shipped it this afternoon! Try the other outlet stores- I got the last one from the Georgia store.

Forgive my lack of Knowledge on this Prop - But got a question to
ask... from seeing SKYFALL and looking at Royal Doultons Box images
etc and them jumping on the BOND WAGON ....
Ok - Royal Doulton look to have been producing this model for decades
just a quick search online threw up the same Dog / Statue only made in
the 1960's and other decades - however these particular ones are selling
in the region of £500 upward and beyond! - obviously due to age etc
My Question is this - and sorry if its been asked or verified earlier in these
topics or elsewhere. IS the one in SKYFALL on M's desk an actual newly
made piece from Royal Doulton, or is it a vintage model and a newer
production version is being sought after by the fans and Royal Doulton's
SKYFALL packaging is giving the impression that its a new version used in
the film?
when I say new - I mean a newly produced one, I don't mean a new sculpt
or anything like that. Its clearly the exact same sculpt and shape etc and size
Or is the newly produced one from Royal Doulton the one that's obtainable to
the collector, where as the vintage model would be like gold dust?
Just curious as to what age the actual piece / prop was in the film
thanks.... like I say sorry if this had already been asked and answered
We might be able to help here. When we first read the script it was the first item we earmarked for possible replication so we did a lot of investigation on the piece, but sadly as its a 'found' item not a manufactured prop replication was not a possibility for us.
Yes, the prop used was a vintage piece. Royal Doulton have been producing bulldogs for many years in various deco's since the 1940's and the older ones are highly collectible.
It had been retired with the Union Jack paint scheme for some time, but has been officially reissued for Skyfall and the 50th Anniversary.
Finding a true vintage one is quite an achievement, but beware there are a lot of fakes and copies. Also note that the Bulldog has been and continues to be offered by Doulton in other decorations including plain white and there are a lot of adapted vintage ones that have had a Union Jack added at a later stage.
Actually, the Royal Doulton Union Jack Bulldog was first issued around 1914.
The dogs were made so people could buy then to show their support for the British troops. I think the design was by a guy called Charles Noake or something.
Anyway, when WWII broke out, RD reissued the dog, again, so people could show support. Possible war bonds connections?
The original dogs are available in 3 sizes, small being around 2.5" high, medium around 4" and large, around 6" high.
As soon as the skyfall trailer was aired and people recognised the dog, the price of all 3 sizes sky rocketed. I believe the correct size used in skyfall is the medium. I could be wrong on this, but I went with the reissue.
I initially searched for an antique issue, and even looked for fakes and copies but I couldn't find any.
RD have stated on their website that the cardboard sleeve and stamp on jack's arse is limited, but not to what quantity, or that this 'limited' status applies to the dog itself.
Aghhh ... Great Info thanks Pete and FE ..... great stuff
thats what I was looking to clear up ...... which brings me
onto another question... Even though The royal dog is a
vintage item.... used in the film and made by Royal Doulton
surely that dosent give them the right to brand it a SKYFALL
item..... ? or am I a million miles off of how copyright and
licensing works....?
in the SKYFALL Scotland scenes when Bond and M are driving
to SKYFALL lodge.... they Pass a ''John Deere tractor'' parked
in one of the fields up in Glencoe .... Does that give John Deere
the right to re-release the same model of tractor and call it the
SKYFALL tractor ...... ) ) ) )
Yea that is a bit of made up Bull..... BUT it does give an example
of what I am referring to with this matter ..... Or have Royal
Doulton got the OK from EON etc to brand the dog SKYFALL?
I am not trying to cause an issue here.... I am just curious as to
the authenticity of the Dog before I buy one, thats all.
Thanks... With regards to the Box stating LTD EDITION.... it will
more than likely be LTD to how many they can sell and once sales
start winding down and the amount they are selling is not worth
the manufacturing costs ... then a LTD EDITION Number may be
stated ) ) ) usualy with things like this a Number is Decided
First.. and then stated on the packaging etc........ a bit odd
Has anyone contacted them to ask if there is a Set Number they will
make and stick to it...... I wouldn't like to spend a decent amount on a
dog and in a couple of months from now they are ten a penny going
for £10 due to SKYFALL overload ) at the factory
On their site... it just states one was used in SKYFALL... thats fair
enough... but I am wondering about the SKYFALL box etc ?
also making it available it a more accurate box to the film may have
been a better move :007) an not had any film branding etc on it
May be able to help here.... I rang the factory to ask what limited edition actually meant. The response was that they had made a batch with the Skyfall branding on the base and when they were gone, that was it. Any future manufacturing would be of the dog, but no mention of Skyfall. On that basis, I bought one! What they did not tell me was how many were produced - at the time of asking they had 250 left and this was on the 24 October. Having seen the film on the 23, I know they would fly off the shelves once general release had happened.
Just what I was told, but I will be paying attention to the production for Feb to see if I was told the truth or whether RD will renege and produce huge quantities!
"The distance between insanity and genius is merely success"
No, actually Kan, you're quite right, mickey is of course yet again talking bollox.
To answer your questions mickey re copyright;
Royal Doulton will have permission to use the Skyfall connection and branding, trust me if they'd just hopped on the bond bandwagon, EoN would have gone mental. It'll be very above board and legit. As I understand it, a design stays the intellectual property of a person or company for 70 years after the design ceases production or the person dies/company ceases trading. If this is the case then by reissuing the bulldog design, RD have secured the copyright for another 70 years. I am by no means an expert in IP laws and Copyright protection but that's as I understand it.
The copyrights and trademarks associated with Skyfall are of course owned by EoN. If an item etc were to appear on screen, this does not automatically allow the owner of said item to use EoN owned logos on their products, so no, unless EoN agree to it, John Deere can't use 007 logos on their tractors.
I think the deciding factor is the presidence the item has to the film. A tractor is the background doesn't hold as much meaning as that dog does it?
As for a more screen accurate box, all that adds to production costs. RD will simply be wanting to make as big a bang for as less buck with this, hence no black box, just the regular one with an extra sleeve.
My RD source told me that end of Jan 2013 bulldog Jacks will be similar as the ones which are now "out of stock" NOT "sold out" People are making money on evilbay with the copies and there's even replicas made of these DD007 models LOL
Knowing who to trust is Everything in this business.

Minijeff's post left a lot of questions unanswered:
1. Now who's Minipete?
2. If John Deere had a branding on their tractors, will farmers who are the same time Bond fans whistle the Bond theme when they are on their fields, or will the trackor automatically mow a 007 gun logo?
President of the 'Misty Eyes Club'.
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
Hi Mick - as far as licensing goes if EON uses something in a film they either get it for free and do a licensing promo deal or a company may offer items and ask for a licensing agreement. As far as Royal Doulton are concerned they may have paid to get a licence to produce that dog and put it in a Skyfall box. They could have just reissued it and let everyone figure it out themselves with no mention of the film and that would have been ok too.
Heineken will have paid to have their product seen in the film as they will reckon on it boosting their profile and sales. What Bond uses and wears is probably open to the highest bidder - oooh the little slut )
I actually have a 007 licenced tractor! its a New Holland in a CR box and is the one used in the pre credit. Not seen a John Deere one yet
Heineken will have paid to have their product seen in the film as they will reckon on it boosting their profile and sales. What Bond uses and wears is probably open to the highest bidder - oooh the little slut )
Even if Berenice sipped Heineken in the nude it would still not convince me to drink that crap lol
