I would count them underrated, Dr No is looked over, because of the great Connery films after it but that's where it all started, one of the better Connery films.
“The scent and smoke and sweat of a casino are nauseating at three in the morning. "
-Casino Royale, Ian Fleming
Dr No
It's often neglected by fans, however this is a fantastic film with a great story. Its man flaw is that it's a little quiet in comparison to those that followed, however, this makes it more enjoyable, and realistic. I wish some of the later films had followed suite.
The Man With The Golden Gun
Perhaps it has some on-the-nose moments (J. W. Pepper, the slide-whistle), however Moore is on top form as a darker Bond, and it has some fantastic locations, a good, somewhat different story, and Christopher Lee is great as Scaramanga. The scenes in the fun house are great and add some much needed tension to the story.
Moonraker
Okay, it's very camp, but it's a very fun film if you don't take it seriously. Barry provided a wonderful score, and, with the exception of the space-men battle, the space scenes were done reasonably believably.
Octopussy
Another classic Bond film that is often neglected by fans, this combines a serious plot with some light humour that blends well together.
A View to a Kill
It has a good plot, a great cast, and one of Barry's best soundtracks. Sure, there are a few moments where it sags (like the Goldfinger story is copies) especially once Bond reaches San Fransico, but it has a great climax and great ending.
Licence to Kill
This is somewhat different from and much darker than traditional Bond films, which is probably why it is underrated, however, it has a solid story, and a great cast.
Tomorrow Never Dies
Perhaps too much of an action film, this has an interesting and still poignant story, some great villains in Elliot Carver and Stamper, and a good performance by Brosnan, who worked well paired with Michelle Yeo.
Die Another Day
This is Bond at perhaps his most camp, especially in the second half, however, it is a very fun film.
Quantum of Solace
Lacking in a good, coherent story due to the writer's strike, this one follows the more realistic style from Casino Royale and is a far better sequel to that film than Diamonds Are Forever was to On Her Majesty's Secret Service. David Arnold provides one of his best scores, and Craig is fantastic as Bond out for revenge.
1. TOMORROW NEVER DIES - I think this one gets mixed reviews, but I love it. It's one of my favorite Bond movies. I love Johnathan Pryce's character (Having a Rupert Murdoch-type seeking World Domination? BRILLIANT!) I consider Michelle Yeoh's Wai Lin to be one of the best Bond girls of all time, she kicks ass! Terri Hatcher's not good, but she's not in the movie that much and the love scene between her and Brosnan is actually very good. Lots of great action, the scene with Dr. Kaufman is very well done, and Brosnan gets in some of his best lines ("Backseat driver").
2. YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE - DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER isn't good, but I can't discount this Connery classic. Yes I know it has its stupid moments (Connery being made to look Japanese... makes sense) but it also has hot Japanese girl in it! C'mon! I love Donald Pleasance as Blofeld, Ken Adam's set is incredible, the final fight is very climactic, and it's a lot fun... did I mention it has hot Japanese girls in it?
3. THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH - I watched this one again recently and I was surprised how good it was. Most people discount it because of Denise Richards (by the way I worked with Richards on a shoot one time... she's a bitch.) But she's not in the movie that long, and Sophie Marceau is HOT! Great character, and her final scene with Bond is one of Brosnan's finest moments as 007. It still has it's problems, Robert Carlyle's not that great and the ending's a bit of a letdown, but the opening boat chase is the best in the franchise, and there's plenty of other great action where that came from.
4. LICENSE TO KILL - I didn't like this film as a kid. It was not well received when it came out, and it didn't enjoy a good reputation for a long time. I watched it again recently, and I actually liked it. I still feel like it's not really a Bond film. It feels a typical 80s action movie, very dark. But honestly, I think I'm gonna watch this one again.
5. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN - This is one of the better Roger Moore films, but that's not saying much. I still don't think it's a great Bond movie. You had a great villain (Christopher Lee is always good) some fun scenes, beautiful scenery, but you also have Sheriff Pepper. Still, I'd watch this over LIVE AND LET DIE or OCTOPUSSY. Moore's Best line after Adams tells him Scaramanga has a third nipple: “Probably one of the most useless pieces of information I’ve ever heard, unless of course The Bottom’s Up is a strip club and Scaramanga’s performing there!” )
6. DIE ANOTHER DAY - Well... sorta. I would agree with everyone about the CGI, the space laser, the ridiculous plot, not so much the invisible car (could have been worse), but definitely in agreement about Madonna (Shivers). But I actually enjoy the first half of this movie. The opening feels a lot like a Fleming story (seeing Bond tortured and grow a beard), shacking up Halle Berry (Her character's not that good, but I don't care, it's Halle Berry!) And I like the sword-fighting scene (even if it is kinda pointless... still should have been the climax of the film). But yes, the movie becomes overblown in the second half of the film and is a huge let down. But it's hardly the worst Bond film of all time *coughs Quantum of Solace...
HONORABLE MENTION: DR. NO - I'm seeing a lot of people mention Dr. NO in their lists, but I'd imagine this is a very well received film. It's definitely one of my favorites ("Bond... James Bond" being on one of the greatest scenes in all film history) but does this really count as being underrated?
Underrated: "Something or someone that deserves much more respect than people will allow."
1. A View to a Kill - Best Bond film of the 80's.
2. Moonraker - Huge production values. A real blockbuster!
3. License to Kill - Dark and violent.. perhaps scared some fans away.
4. Tomorrow Never Dies - When I joined AJB I was surprised everyone seemed to be ragging on TND. Solid Brosnan outing.
5. Living Daylights - Timothy Dalton. Great film.
6. Quantum of Solace - This film will likely be forgotten in the wake of Casino Royale and Skyfall, but it's a dandy. Feels more like a true 007 film than the other two.
It's hard to judge what the public perception of each Bond film is these days. Is Timothy Dalton still under appreciated? OHMSS went from being underrated to being overrated!
My current 10 favorite:
1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK
1. FYEO my fav Bond film and film of all time. This film is the MOST unmentioned Bond film and the best. It has the perfect amount of humour, action and characterization. Moore is at his best and it has the best Bond girl. Everyone take a minute silence to respect this perfect movie. This film owns the eightes.
2.QOS is actually really good. The action is superb and even for that, keeps it from being in the bottom five. I enjoyed this.
3. LTK has been high on peoples list, but still Daltons performance is AWESOME.
4. AVTAK is better then it seems, perhaps Firemass and Jarvio hype it too much, but I prefer it too Goldfinger actually. The,characters are golden and walken is superb. The theme is one of the best.
TMWTGG watched this with a mate and he enjoyed it alot, great entertainment
“The scent and smoke and sweat of a casino are nauseating at three in the morning. "

Hard to say. I kinda figure that FYEO and TSWLM are both widely praised as Moore's best films. So I don't feel that it's underrated.
However, you've stated on numerous occasions that no one here ever talks about it and it's somewhat forgotten. If that's the case, then yes I would add it to the list. Excellent film which has a lot going for it including: Citroen car chase, Bond girl has a cross bow!, superb winter skiing and stunts, Contessa's beach house, down-to-earth plot, and perhaps Moore's finest performance as 007.

For me it's:
- The Living Daylights- My favourite Bond movie; I mean that snow chase with the Cello! Pure epicness
- Quantum of Solace- definitely not the worst as it is so frequently rated
- Licence to Kill- Just loved every minute
- The World is Not Enough- the first Bond movie I ever saw and I really enjoyed it
- A View to a Kill- Great theme song, great movie
- Tomorrow Never Dies- watched this one recently enough and don't really get why it gets a bit of a slating
"You were fantastic! We're free!"
"Kara, we're inside a Russian airbase in the middle of Afghanistan."

Attempting to get a better grasp on the mainstream viewpoints for these underrated titles, i turned to amazon.co.uk customer reviews:
DAF 3 out of 5 stars from 50 reviews
NSNA 3.5 out of 5 stars from 59 reviews
TMWTGG 4 out of 5 stars from from 46 reviews
MR 3.5 out of 5 from 56 reviews
AVTAK 4 out of 5 stars from 70 reviews
TND 4 out of 5 stars from 63 reviews
Interesting to note that AVTAK has such a high number of reviews..more than any other RM film. Apparently there's more interest than I figured!

Them's some great choices, Lo!! And welcome!!
Thank you :-)
"You were fantastic! We're free!"
"Kara, we're inside a Russian airbase in the middle of Afghanistan."
I can't offer six titles but there's no doubt Quantum of Solace is much better than its detractors claim, and to be brutally honest anyone who thinks it's the worst Bond film is foolish at best.
I find TMWTGG to be unfairly picked on from time to time. Moore is great fun to watch as usual and there are lots of funny one-liners.
I agree with your 2 choices... and I will add A view to a Kill, Die another Day (it's only the last half hour it get's stupid imo), You only live twice (I love Connery's transformation and have no idea why it's so slated)

SEE?? I've been sayin' TND & TMWTGG are great movies!!! B-) :v
I'm actually adding Moonraker to my list because I watched again last night and enjoyed it a lot more than I did before. Granted, the space laser fight scene is fairly silly but the last scene redeems it with one of the best lines to ever appear in a movie: " I think he's attempting re-entry!" Oh and this popped into my head in the process of watching it:
"You were fantastic! We're free!"
"Kara, we're inside a Russian airbase in the middle of Afghanistan."
TMWTGG wasn't bad. Take out the ninja fighting scene and anything with J.W Pepper and you've got yourself a pretty good movie.
1: Casino Royale 2: Goldeneye 3: Skyfall 4: Octopussy 5: Goldfinger 6: Tomorrow Never Dies 7: The World Is Not Enough 8: The Living Daylights 9: From Russia With Love 10: The Spy Who Loved Me
I'm currently reading Catching Bullets Memoirs of a Bond Fan by Mark O'Connell. Very enjoyable so far. Anyway, he admits early on that his favorite Bond film is A View to a Kill. I was like "No way! YESSS!"
Also, his ongoing "girl crush" on Maud Adams is hilarious. I would definitely recommend reading it. Lively, witty, packed full of nostalgic 007 memories and balanced with modern film analysis.

I've just ordered the book. Looking forward to it considering he's a fellow AVTAK fan
For this Topic my list consists of Films that I personally like but are generally ranked much lower on peoples' lists. Most underrated to least underrated...if that makes sense.
1. QoS - Don't blink or you'll miss most of the movie - So pay attention!
2. TMWTGG - Bond going up against the world's greatest assassin - I'm Sold!
3. DAF- A lot of people rank it near the bottom but for me it's somewhere in the middle
4. LTK - Great idea but a general feeling of it being "not quite right" as far as execution...still in my top half
5. MR - Many rank this near the bottom...I don't
6. OHMSS - The fact that not everyone ranks Lazenby's one-off in their top 5 makes this underrated!!!

Thank you Firemass.
Fortunately the Ms Adams affection did not totally fall on deaf ears this year. Nor the Roger Moore ones.
1. TWINE - Totally Solid. One of my favourites. Deserves none of the hate
2. Thunderball - A Truly excellent, classic bond with fantastic locations, girls and Connery himself hives his best performance as Bond. Sorely underrated
3. DAD - I understand why it gets all the hate but I love it...so of course I think it's underrated
4. OHMSS - It gets quite a lot of love on this forum but is generally disliked by most fans because it stands out like a sore thumb. I think it's very classy though
5 CR - I don't think a lot of people realised just how good of a bloody film this was when it was released. My #2 film. Loved by most casual Bond Fans but not so much the Die Hards
6. Octopussy - Fun, Entertaining and just a great all round action film. Not a great Bond but it's not half as bad as many people make out it is
....and the best he ever managed was a sermon on the mount.

1. Agreed!
2. I wouldn't watch Thunderball again unless I absolutely had to as part of a marathon.
3. Agreed. Definitely deserves all the criticism but I love it anyway.
4. Bond cheating on the love of his life with 10 different girls while wearing a kilt. 8-) oh yeah…pure class.
5. Oh really? I believe you are mistaken on both observations.
6. Yeah, I have a hard time ranking OP because it's not that great but also one of the most fun to watch. Go figure.

Not sure about this one. As I recall. CR was pretty well-received when it debuted, and I know quite a few Die Hards, myself included, who believe it is one of the best films in the entire series.
I looked at my list on page one, a year & two months ago, and decided it needs updating:
1. Thunderball- This movie get trashed regularly, and that's the single biggest surprise I had when I joined AJB! It was Connery when he was at his peak, the women are amazing, the movie LOOKS beautiful, the stakes are high, and the music is superb. A slow pace in spots and a couple of bad rear projections means you should dismiss it? I think not!
2. Tomorrow Never Dies- Pierce's Big Bond. Fun, exciting, great Bond girl, excellent action, yet it gets dismissed regularly. A shame.
3. You Only Live Twice- Sean phoned it in, Sean was visibly not into it, Sean was sleepwalking through the role, Sean was all fat & out of shape.... sorry guys, I just don't see it. The movie is big fun.
4. Quantum Of Solace- Okay, shakey cam & narrative issues, but it's Craig, and it's not stupid, isn't that enough?
5. Diamonds are Forever- Funniest dialogue of the series, gotta love Wint & Kidd!
6. The Man With The Golden Gun- You all no likey the bizarre Bond in the bunch? *cue slide whistle*
3. You Only Live Twice- Sean phoned it in, Sean was visibly not into it, Sean was sleepwalking through the role, Sean was all fat & out of shape.... sorry guys, I just don't see it. The movie is big fun.

Maybe so actually - 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. I'll bump OP up to #4 then and slip AVTAK in at #5 as I really do enjoy it... I know that will please a few folk on here -{
....and the best he ever managed was a sermon on the mount.
1. LTK - Probably the Bond I watch the most. Dalton is Flemingly ruthless. Great stunts. Good, realistic villain. Hot Bond Girls. Good gadgets. I think each era needs one nice revenge plot.
2. AVTAK - Fun Bond film. Moore was the only Bond I had known, so his age never really bothered me (anyone over 25 was old to me at the time, so no big deal). Walken. San Francisco.
3. DAF - But for a little sloppiness, this could've been one of the best Bond films. Interesting henchmen (Wint & Kidd). Cool Howard Hughes red herring. Las Vegas.
4 TND - Cool gadgets (cell phone stun gun, car remote, fingerprint scanner). Brosnan coming into his own. A Bond Girl who can actually kick your ass. Up-to-date villain. Good stunts.
5. LALD - Great use of locations (bayou boat chase, alligator farm, New Orleans & Harlem). A little edgier than some previous Bonds. Along with DAF, could use a proper update.
6. NSNA - Okay, obviously a wildcard, but I watch it way more than Thunderball. Connery having fun again. Fatima Blush, second best Bond Girl/Henchwoman (to Xenia Onatopp). Bernie Casey as Leiter.

I should have included YOLT and I just can't get myself to like QOS all that much, but the rest is identical to my old list! Well, you know what they say about great minds.

I agree with your 2 choices... and I will add A view to a Kill, Die another Day (it's only the last half hour it get's stupid imo), You only live twice (I love Connery's transformation and have no idea why it's so slated)

1 - Moore, 2 - Dalton, 3 - Craig, 4 - Connery, 5 - Brosnan, 6 - Lazenby

Not a great Bond but it's not half as bad as many people make out it is
1. Agreed!

Ahhhh - good to see you back on track!
Maybe so actually - 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. I'll bump OP up to #4 then and slip AVTAK in at #5 as I really do enjoy it... I know that will please a few folk on here -{
