you caught me by surprise - this forum has become so grim and serious and people screeching "don't you go disrespecting me gf" that my funny bone was turned off
I think at times it helps to throw in a little nonsence now and agin.To try and
help disperse, or try to curb a heavy dispute before it gets a little too heated.

Which is why I struggle with the Craig films - there's no joy and very little humour in them. And as one reviewer said, Bond is now boring - he doesnt even have sex anymore. All the previous Bond films had sex, humour and/or joy in them - but I see little of any of these in the Craig films. As far as I'm concerned you don't try to alter the recipe for Coke or KFC - the last 2 Craig films have very little of the original recipe - taking out the bizarre gadgets was the last straw.
Your views are as valid as any others. I didn't like QOS but really loved
CR & Skyfall. So I'm happy enough and do feel after QOS there has been
a change, a little more comedy, all the old regulars back in place.
I wasn't a huge fan of the reboot but I have to say I for one love
the slight change to a lighter touch.
I was amazed to learn that some hated Roger Moore as Bond. So they
went through hell for many years. I hope you can find something to
like in the new films, as with the huge success . Most of the public seem
to be happy with the new Bond.

If you didn't get the dog nads joke from Thunderpussy, it's no wonder the humour in Craigs films do a flyover. And it's easier to get when written too
Times change. Sex in movies is now OTT and Bond movies will never go to that level, so they have to change. A Sixties recipe won't work in the modern age, in fact, it will be laughed at. Audiences want something else. It has been delivered and with great success. Bizarre gadgets are cliched and lame for todays audience. Bond has to move on and change, it always has and that is why it is still going. You need to accept it and enjoy each interpretation for what it is. The formula for Bond was never fixed, it has always been evolving, shifting and morphing.

Personally I think the humour in Skyfall hit exactly the right level. Bond in the novels has a "sardonic" sense of humour - quite dry.
The bit where Bond notes that the only bit of M's office to survive was the bulldog, to which M replies "your interior decorating suggestions are always very much appreciated, 007", is a killer. And all the better for not being too sledgehammer.

Agreed. As I said before, I like the way Bond keeps up a running sardonic commentary on all the things going on, which is reminiscent of Connery's first few Bond films. I also think that Javier Bardem's Silva was both frightening and funny--he almost seems to be spoofing the action ("all this running around is so tiring"). I don't understand this charge that Skyfall is humorless at all.

As I said in my original review, witty and gritty don't go together. The humour in CR worked (Bond with Solange, Bond with Vesper) and also in QoS to an extent (Bond with Camille, but not with Fields) but in SF it was just jarring and out of joint like everything else in the film

Very well stated. delicious, take note!
There were perfectly acceptable love scenes in CR with Solange and of course Vesper. And CR was made in the 21st century if I'm not very much mistaken.
I do not hanker for Connery's patronising misogyny or Moore's arrogant sleaziness - Dalton and Brosnan did the love and sex scenes best. Brosnan kissing Wai Lin to feed her oxygen at the climax of TND was a triumph. And in the scene with Elektra in TWINE where he says: "I take pleasure - in great beauty." was exquisite. And DAD's love scenes were OK too - Bond with Miranda Frost where she steals his gun and is revealed a scene later as responsible for his capture by the Koreans.
The love scene between Bond and Silva was pretty hot. )
The homophobia of James Bond is one thing that hasn't changed much over the years and needs to. Another gay villain - because being gay is EVIL! Sigh.
But Silva wasn't gay. That's quite clear. He was just trying to throw Bond off his game. Yet another point of dialogue that's gone straight over your head.
Did you think Bond was Bi-sexual because of his reply?

What is clear is that homosexuality have never been portrayed in a positive light in the entire history of the Bond franchise but there are lots of negative moments. Kleb, Wynt and Kyd, and now Silva. I dont care if Silva was gay or not, it was an unhelpful scene.

I agree with you....just like when Goldfinger gassed the hoodlums....I mean, he wasn't gay either but it was unhelpful 8-)

How ridiculous. Do you actually think through your answers before you type them. Because they make no sense whatsover. It's just arguing for arguments sake, without any clear reason for doing so.

Rather than attacking me personally, please explain what is ridiculous about my post. But before you do so please check out the following lnk: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112651/. The Celluloid Closet is a documentary about the history of homosexuality in cinema - it even mentions Wynt and Kyd at one point.
Try Sinclair McKay's The Man with the Golden Touch: How the Bond Films Conquered the World, which argues that Diamonds Are Forever revels in gayness for the sake of FUN, not to degrade and demean homosexuals. At any rate, I don't understand what you mean by "unhelpful," delicious. . .Bardem made Silva a complicated villain--not one-dimensional evil--and I feel that everything he showed was a new wrinkle. The moment you refer to helped make him an interesting character.

I'm not attacking you personally, I'm attacking your ability to put forward a cohesive argument about anything. You had a go at Skyfall for portraying gay people as bad becaiuse Silva was teh baddy and he was gay. When it was pointed out that Silva wasn't gay, you said it doesn't matter as it was an unhelpful scene anyway. Err, what, what are you on about? Why don't you stop throwing shadows and explain why for once? You just throw statements out there with no logic or backup to them. Now you are bringing up DAF which is totally unrelated. There is no substance to your posts, just randomly cobbled together thoughts that aren't backed up by anything logic.
Why should I check out your link. It's totally unrelated to Skyfall, or this discussion. Bond wasn't gay, Silva wasn't gay, it was a mental game of chess. It didn't portray gay people in a bad light at all. And if you think it did, then explain why.
Please don't tell me gay people are offended by Silva's camp scenes lol Funniest part of the movie
I know a few gay people who have an outrageous sense of humour, must ask them what they think of Silvas scenes, bet they find it hilarious. On another note one of them told me (pissed up) that he though Roger Moore was the hottest Bond lol, my missus insisted DC was the hottest but our friend wasnt having any of it!!
I have found the Bond films to be, baldyphobic. Blofeld has been shown
many times as a baldy, even the guy holding the gun at Bond's head on
Silva's island was bald.
This is clearly an attack on all baldy men. I had a hard time trusting Prof X
because of years watching the anti-baldy propaganda of Bond. )

You forgot cat lovers. Using the logic of delicious, then cat lovers have always been portrayed in a bad light too. And also using that same logic, even in the scenes where there were no cat lovers and just Pussy.
