Forgive me if this has been raised earlier, but figures aren't my strength (quite the opposite). Adjusted for inflation, is SF the biggest earning 007 movie ever or is that still MR, TB, or whatever? Or is it still too early to tell?
To give you an idea as to Skyfall's standing regards box office adjusted for inflation. I cannot vouch for accuracy, but the list at the link below is inflation adjusted to 2011. It currently (updated 22nd December) shows that Skyfall needs to gross another $60 million to become the biggest earning 007 film ever. There is also a graph indicating the ups and downs of the Bond films popularity at the box office over the fifty years.
Skyfall has become the number one film in France this year. In less than two months it has attracted 6,606,490 viewers in cinemas, exceeding the 6,588,883 of Ice Age: Continental Drift. Skyfall is now closing in on the most successful Bond film Goldfinger which attracted 6,675,587 viewers in February 1965.
Skyfall, already the number one film in France this year, has now become the most successful Bond film of all by surpassing Goldfinger's 6,675,587 viewers. Nearly 60,000 people have seen the film since last Wednesday, in only 274 theatres. Skyfall's overall viewing figure in France now stands at 6,682,364.
Skyfall's phenomenal success continues. In Denmark, it is not only the number 1 film at the box office in 2012 (and by some distance), but has also now become the most viewed Bond film of all. Skyfall has been seen by 893,844 Danes since its release, surpassing the record set by Casino Royale of 890,371.
A Dutch article quoting visitor numbers that illustrates Skyfall's dominance at the box office in 2012. Skyfall has attracted 1.9 million visitors to date and is still running in 118 theatres. The next most successful film, Intouchables, has attracted 1.2 million visitors.
Skyfall grossed £554,958 at the UK box office last weekend, Friday 21st - Sunday 23rd Decmber. Overall, edging it ever closer to the £100 million mark, which it is expected to pass within the next few days.
Skyfall's remarkable success continues as it has now grossed more than $1 billion dollars worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. It has yet to be released in China, so it now looks almost certain to beat Thunderball and become the most successful Bond film of all at the box office.
Skyfall grossed an estimated $4.6 million dollars at the US box office this weekend. The theatre count dropped by 728 but it is still being screened in 1,637. Skyfall's overall US gross now stands at $289.6 million, worldwide at just over $1 billion.
Staggering when you think about it- after fifty years, James Bond is going from strength to strength when in 1962 not many thought the series would last more than a few movies. As has been said, we're in unknown territory here since no other continuous film series has lasted so long (or ever will...?).
The records keep tumbling. Skyfall has now become the first film to gross £100 million pounds at the UK box office. Yesterday, it became the third film of 2012 to break $1 billion dollars worldwide, after The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. As it has yet to be released in China, it may overtake TDKR and become the second biggest earner of 2012, though The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey might yet challenge that.
Skyfall's remarkable success at the UK box office continued as it grossed £890,222 on it's tenth weekend of release, Friday 28th - Sunday 30th December 2012. The overall UK gross now stands at £100,460,679.
The people at Boxoffice.com have voted Skyfall equal first in both the US domestic (The Hunger Games) and international (The Intouchables) categories as the most impressive performer at the box office in 2012. The vote was based on films whose success exceeded franchise or genre traditions, broke from the typical in terms of legs, reached massive numbers without the aid of 3D surcharges, and/or various other metrics and points of fact that are often overlooked.
Skyfall has finally been toppled from the number one spot at the Australian box office, dropping down to sixth place but still grossing approx $3 million dollars. Skyfall's overall Australian gross now stands at over $44 million.
Looking at Box Office Mojo's Australian Yearly Box Office chart of 2012, Skyfall is now set to finish as the second highest grossing film behind The Avengers.
Sony ended 2012 as the UK's number one distributor, grossing a total of £209.9 million pounds. Skyfall's massive £100 million haul accounted for almost 50% of Sony's gross. Overall, UK box office in 2012 grossed £1.172 billion, narrowly ahead of 2011's £1.130 billion.
Top Ten based on figures from Rentrak, January 6th 2012 - January 3rd 2013.
1. Sony: £209.9 million ($336.4 million) 17.9%
2. 20th Century Fox: £191.2 m ($306.5m) 16.3%
3. Warner Bros: £147m ($235.5m) 12.5%
4. Universal: £136.8m ($219.3m) 11%
5. Walt Disney: £123.2m ($197.4m) 10.5%
6. eOne: £80.8m ($129.5m) 6.9%
7. Paramount: £78.5m ($125.8m) 6.7%
8. Lionsgate: £68.2m ($109.3m) 5.8%
9. Momentum: £51.2m ($82.1m) 4.3%
10. Entertainment Film Distributors: £36.8m ($59m) 3.1%
The overall US box office of 2012 came in at a record $10.83 billion dollars. That's up six-and-a-half per cent from last year and two per cent from 2009, which previously held the record with $10.596 billion. More importantly, there were approximately 1.36 billion tickets sold, which is higher than 2011 (1.28 billion) and 2010 (1.34 billion).
still cant believe a dumbass movie hunger games made so much, it sucked. Avengers was way overrated...
I liked Avengers, but Hunger Games?.......gotta be kidding. IMO Hunger Games looked like a cheap made for the Sci-Fi channel movie. "Skyfall" is "Citizen Kane" compared to the Hunger Games.
Avengers was ok, the high point was Hulk (finally a decent one). Other than that, meh.
And yes, Hunger Games was watered down to appeal to the dumbass p*ssy teenagers that like the even sh*ttier twilight. What everyone says I'll repeat, the books are actually really good, violent, gory, great character development. The movie... well read the beginning of my comment.
Skyfall is to me (despite some serious plot holes) becoming a classic Bond. Amazing what good material can become in the hands of a master director.
Skyfall ended 2012 as the number 1 film at the French box office, selling 6,827,640 tickets. It had already sold more tickets than any other Bond film, surpassing Goldfinger's 6,675,587 in 1965.

Skyfall grossed an estimated $3.2 million dollars at the US box office this weekend. The theatre count dropped by 330 but it is still being screened in 1,307. Skyfall's overall US gross now stands at $296.9 million, so it is certain to surpass $300 million before the end of it's run. The worldwide gross now stands at $1.023 billion.
Skyfall grossed $966,133 dollars at the Australian box office over the weekend. The overall Australian gross stands at $45.713 million, which now means Skyfall is the second highest grossing film of 2012 (behind The Avengers $54.385 million), and into the top ten of the highest grossing films of all at the Australian box office.
Skyfall is the first film since The King's Speech to make 11 consecutive appearances in the official UK box office top ten. The £541,401 pounds gross from 253 sites placed it ninth, bringing the overall UK gross to £101.572 million.
Skyfall ended 2012 as the number 1 film at the German box office, grossing 62.9 million euros ($82.5 million dollars). And thanks in great part to Skyfall, which provided Sony with over 40% of its total takings for 2012, the US major knocked 2011's number 1 distributor Warner Bros off the top spot, scoring 15.4% market share (compared to 2011's 11.1%).

I thought the Japanese were Bond crazy - guess not these days
Well, the box office figures from Skyfall plus the previous three films suggests they are not Bond crazy, but there is a consistent and loyal following.
Die Another Day $18,441,255
Casino Royale $18,982,804
Quantum of Solace $21,685,734
Skyfall (currently) $18,942,725

An article from Variety on the 2012 international box office markets from China, through numerous countries in Europe, Australasia, and finally Japan. China being the number one grossing market outside the US, $2.7 billion dollars. Skyfall features quite prominently.
