MAJOR SPOILER - Aston Martin

Is the Aston meant to be the one that Bond won from Alex Dimitrios is CR or the one issued to him in GF.

It has the sub-machine guns and the ejector seat but GF is not meant to have happened in the DC universe.

Alternatively as it has been 4 years since the end of his mission in QOS could he have had other assignments one of which was GF where he acquired the Aston.

I wonder if the producers have thought that far into it...

On a different note, did anybody else raise a small cheer when the car was revealed? I had on idea they were using it, I don't know if it had been leaked at all before release.

I had this discussion with a friend today, I personally think it was just there as a nod to Goldfinger as I noticed nods to alot of classic Bond films in there aswell.

Much the same way we discussed how it's very plausible that if you disregard Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace then Skyfall could in fact be considered 'canon' to the rest of the franchise (Casino Royale was a great movie by the way this was purely just a scenario we made up) but then we realised with the introduction of 'certain characters' then it couldn't be at all, it got very confusing, aswell as the concept of Judi's M being the same character as in the Brosnan movies (which she pretty much was) or a new M with the same actress, but as I said, it just gets confusing and starts to feel like I am picking plotholes.

Anyway, I don't personally think it matters too much, it's there simply as a treat for the 50th anniversary and should not be considered even a minor plot-point or plot-hole depending on how you view it. Don't let it spoil your enjoyment of this great film or you'll end up confusing yourself like me and my friend did :))

It can't be the car from Goldfinger, Goldfinger disassembled that Aston when investigating who Bond was. "What an interesting car of yours." If there is a timeline, it could be the one from Thunderball, making it a different Aston to the one from Goldfinger. Standard equipment that he personally kept over the years?

It was great to see the machine guns finally get a proper outing. The thing that bugged me most about Goldfinger was why he did nt ruthlessly gun down that little old Woman at the gatehouse with the Schmeisser when he was first attempting to escape Goldfingers facility.

i dunno about anyone else, but i get a bit bored of seeing the AM get blown up, shot to bits, crashed and rolled.

can't we just for once see bond get away in the car and keep using it instead of having it reduced to component form by one way or another?

Our cinema cheered. :)) I was so happy :x I loved seeing it and do hope they work things out plot-wise so we can have it back again, hopefully in all its glory, which for me is in a car chase :D

Lord knows. I was never a fan of the whole reboot to be honest. I don't think they needed to do it in CR whatsoever. They could have set it after DAD just fine, changed a few lines, and it still would have been just as popular and successful IMO.

The problem is that putting it in a car chase with modern cars is kinda unrealistic, since it would never be able to keep pace with them. Some people even complain about the chase at the start of Goldeneye, despite the fact that Bond/Onatop were clearly just playing and not actually racing, and they demonstrated that the Ferrari was able to pull away from the Aston during the scene!

Quite agree, why spend 3 movies explaining that Bond is Bond... we all know that already! There are 20 movies which have already told us!

    SPOILER**

2 things left me a bit confused when i just saw this film. One of them was the Aston. Yes, clearly it's there to celebrate the past of Bond but here's where i get confused:
Bond claims they need to ditch the company car because of the tracker and they take what appears to be his own Aston from storage along with his other stored property. So, if it's NOT a company car... why does it have guns and an ejector seat? More to the point, how does M know it has an ejector seat?

Just a little point that's niggling me.

Possibly because that Aston was in service with MI6 a long time before GPS trackers became standard in their cars. I don't think it was Bond's personal car, he just retrieved it from storage.

I fell about laughing, it HAS to be the car from CR-06 if its part of internal continuity. However it can't be, since the Skyfall car is right hand drive, and has the ejector seat implying a nod to Goldfinger. (Which is clearly what WAS intended by the reg plate). So although its lovely to see, and once in Scotland reminded me of certain old family snapshots, it can't be either of the previous versions of the car from a continuity standpoint. - Oops!
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

Great story in the recently issued Autumn 2012 edition of Aston Martin Magazine (not on general sale) dedicated to Bond 50 years. Plenty of editorials on past Bond cars and collecting memorobilia, D C etc. Great story also of the duplicate A M DB5 used in the making of SKYFALL sourced and modified by A M Works.

If you can get your hands on the Autumn edition its a must for Bond fans and collectors alike. You either have to be on there mailing list or perhaps one or two will end up on Ebay.

Hey guys, new here. But one thing I noticed that nobody's mentioned about the DB5 in Skyfall is that it has the same license plate as the one in Goldfinger. Just wanted to share my observation. :)

As a rich, terrorism kingpin, could Dimitrios have already had the car outfitted by a custom securities company?

Rich businessmen who are concerned for their safety often go to third-part security modification companies to have automobiles re-fitted with armor plating, bulletproof glass, deployable defenses, and more.

In the Bond universe, is it possible that the car had those concealed features under Dimitrios' ownership?

That said, continuity is never the priority, so if making Bond's car from CR a nod to the GF car took a few differences, so be it.

I think it was a nod to the car in Goldfinger and was supposed to be an old car in storage that Bond had found after Casino Royale. The Dimitrios car he won is his personal car and there just happened to be another one at MI6 from back in the day that someone had told him about. His slight enthusiasm over using it could merely stem from really liking the one he got in CR so much. Maybe he had even discussed it with M when he discovered it with the potential of using it. Craigs Bond is certainly if anything a modern agent with high regards for things that are "old school." That is as far as I took it.

When I saw "Skyfall" the week it opened in a sold out 600 seat IMAX Theatre with "real" Bond fans the reveal of the DB5 got a big cheer and applause. IMO the scene was perfectly written and executed, especially the two note music cue which was stone cold classic Barry.
