Wrong man for the job, like Newman. If Arnold doesn't return (and please let him do so!) then maybe James Newton Howard...?
Agreed. The Skyfall score was a real non entity which is a shame as I had high hopes that he could have taken it somewhere new. I hope Arnold returns and Muse finally get to let rip.
I liked the Skyfall score fine within the context of the film, but as a soundtrack on its own, it's less memorable than the previous two.
Howard Shore would be great.
The score had its moments. "Severine" and the pre-title sequence music were highlights and reminded me of the classic Barry scores. The music cue when the DB5 is unvailed may be the best two musical notes in the whole film.....
IMO, Barry's scores were just as big a part of the films as almost anything else. Get Arnold back for 24 or better yet, Michael Giacchino or whom ever else is willing to carry on in the style of John Barry. Also, the title song should be written in collaboration with the composer of the score and then incorporated into the score. It's a shame that Adele's theme was not able to be used by Newman....it would have added something to the score IMO.
I definitely remember the theme song being touched upon in the film too, just can't recall when or where. Maybe the casino, although I seem to think it was when they were at Skyfall. But I'm not betting on it!

Couldn't agree more with all of that, except I'd prefer Arnold to Giacchino.
Beats the heck out of me too. Especially given the fact that Christopher Nolan has clearly said that he based his rebooted Bruce Wayne persona on James Bond and his big action set pieces are highly influenced by the Bond films. If one believes that SF was a "ripoff" of TDKR then EON/the writers, etc would have had to have a copy of TDKR script as the timeline for the release of both films is too close.
Actually I said it was a rip off of The Dark Knight which came out in 2008. And Sam Mendes said that SF was "heavily influenced by TDK". And I consider it a rip off because nothing in SF was original. Bond seems to outfox ther villain to lock him up for questioning, but it turns out Silva has planned everything. Very similar to TDK, which was obviously influenced by the Bond series without being unoriginal.
Basically, Bond movies used to be trendsetters, but now they seem to be following trends.
“Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to a better understanding of ourselves.” - Carl Jung
Although I certainly wouldn't use the phrase "rip off", you cannot deny TDKs influence on SF.
There is nothing inherently "ripped off", but the film has a very Dark Knight feel to it. But one part that really stuck out for me was when Kincade and M go through underground passage the music sounds very much like some of the music in the DK series.
Not a bad thing though, Bond films have always been a product of their times.

There's a lot they have in common. Silva is essentially a rehash of the Joker, the bike chases through crowded shopping malls were similar, they both have fights in high-tech Chinese skycrapers, they both have the villain infiltrating "headquarters" according to some elaborate plan and then wreaking havoc, they both have heroes whose angst is heavily rooted in their childhoods, and so on. There are many times when Newman's score seems to be imitating several Batman scores, including Hans Zimmer's use of a few notes for Batman being very similar to Newman's use of a few bars from the Adele song.

Hmmm, let us see. Has a movie ever had a character who allowed himself to be captured so he can infiltrate the other side? Why yes there has . . . in most James Bond movies. Usually it is Bond doing the infiltrating, like he does in Skyfall when he allows himself to be captured.
Frankly, the whole idea has been a cliche since the Iliad, when the Trojans allowed themselves to be captured (inside the horse).
Have a feeling its to do with Bruce Wayne being injured, retired from duty (Batman) and comes active again to defeat the enemy etc
In other words a cliched script that has been done a million times.
I can see some elements being similar but honestly cant see how it is a rip off. If it is then its a rip off of a thousand rip offs.
Then again I was falling asleep during the last Batman so might have missed something (still in shock that Nolan put in that ridiculous ending which sort of contradicted what made his Batman so good in the first place - studio final say?)
I couldn't agree more with the above. I wouldn't expect too much originality from any mass appeal release. I just enjoyed it enormously for what it is.
Any obstructed romance involving a young man and a young woman (or a young man and a young man/young woman and a young woman if set in modern times) is a blatant rip off of Romeo & Juliet and should be immediately issued with a cease and desist order and all the money made to date go to Bill Shakespeare's family (pending the lawsuit between the estate of Ovid over Shakespeare's alleged theft of 'Pyramus and Thisbe' which is currently before the jury).
There is no rip-off of Dark Knight by Skyfall. And if there is, then Dark Knight is a rip-off of a thousand other movies and books throughout time. When it's such a simple, straight forward basic plot line (injured/retired hero returns to tackle former ally turned villain), it had better be a hell of a lot closer than Skyfall/Batman before such accusations are thrown around.
A very suspenseful mountain climbing scene....fighting off henchmen to get to the villains lair or whatever. A good tie in with the death of his parents.
In SF film Kincade is a made up character for that film.
So if you're going back to Bond's family roots I think Aunt Charmian should make an appearance!
She must've had an influence while he was growing up, and she can nag him to straighten his tie
and comb his hair !!
No, what Bond 24 needs is another good story with some skiing and Bond in uniform.
(Is he Navy or Army according to the new CV?)
Not Sam Mendes directing, as he will only bring back the quiet duff music of Thomas Newman. (linked).
and think up two film titles so they can say at the end-James Bond will return in "Shatterhand's Revenge"
or similar.

I personally want to see Bond actually solve something properly, instead of just stumbling upon answers or meeting pretty ladies who just happen to have the link to the exact man you were looking for around the globe, it's just too...easy.
Bond is an intelligence officer let's see him display some.
For what it's worth, I think something based on 007 in New York would be fantastic!
As long as the whole thing isn't based in the USA and it must include Bond cooking or specifying his very specific scrambled eggs recipe.
I actually would love to see some Skiing in the new Bond film. We haven't seen that in a long time, and everytime we see it done I personally think it brings alot of excitement to the film.
007 in New York would be good, haven't seen that done since LALD I think.
All in all I don't want any more of Bond's past or any more soul searching. Let's get back to the old school formula now please!
I can't stand skiing sequences or underwater scenes.
I found the scenes in TB just too slow for an action scene, and skiing footage always seems too jerky and shaky.
The only skiing I liked was in TWINE.
I think with new filming techniques I think the skiing sequences could be alot more fluid. I agree that the underwater scenes are generally pretty dull though.
I'd thought the skiing scenes in OHMSS were among the best Bond action sequences.
Indeed, the skiing scenes in On Her Majesty's Secret Service were terrific, likewise in the PTS of The Spy Who Loved Me. In fact, I like ski scenes in general. However, underwater scenes are generally ponderous by comparison for obvious reasons. The key is to keep them short with a quick cut editing style, but not as quick as in Quantum of Solace.

Oh dear....I too would love Zimmer to score the next movie....I thought his score for Inception was brilliant....

knowing who to "Borrow" from. )
lol you do have a point.
Still though, I think it would make a great bond AND indy title!
But first, I want to see Risico, The Property Of A Lady, The Hildebrand Rarity, and some variation of 007 In New York with New York in the title...
1 - Moore, 2 - Dalton, 3 - Craig, 4 - Connery, 5 - Brosnan, 6 - Lazenby
No skiing, just no!
